Vinyl I am listening to...

Beethoven Symphony No. 3 Eroica, by the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Dr Otto Klemperer, Angel Records from 1962, mono. Beautiful album, beautiful sonics.

I am listening to
1. LP Album SAKTHI - Natural elements(1976) - SAKTHI , the group featured John McLaughlin (strings), L. Shankar (violin), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Thetakudi Harihara Vinayakram (ghatam) and earlier Ramnad Raghavan (mridangam). It is an Indo-Jazz fusion album.

2. Percussions of South India - by T.V. Gopalakrishnan. An LP released based on T.V. Gopalakrishnan's research thesis on same subject.

Dire Straits - Communique.

Looking for other Dire Straits albums other than Brothers In Arms. Anyone wanting to dispose off their Straits LPs (good to very good condition only please), please PM.

Joshua,
I have most of the albums. If I remember one is compilation album. So if Songs are repeated in compilation album you can have it. Will check in the evening.

Hey, good to see you back! Extremely sorry to hear about your father's untimely demise. May his soul rest in peace.

Beethoven - Pastorale - aka Symphonie Nr 6 F-die op 68, Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan conductor, Deutsche Grammaphon.

Is complete Bethoven by Furtwangler available? It will be definitely worthwhile. I have the ninth on cd and it is great although the sound quality is poor.Karajan definitely sounds run of the mill in comparison.
Bye the bye have you seen "Taking sides "a film by Istvan Szabo on Furtwangler?Essential seeing.

I have not actively sought out Furtwangler records but I can say they are rare. At least it is in Mumbai. May be you'll be luckier in other cities.

As the season changes, my favorite composer keeps shifting. A year back, I was buying off everything I could find on Bach, especially the Waltzes. I even bought a complete set by a Polish orchestra, despite promising myself not to buy any more boxed sets.

Current season's flavour is Tchaikovsky, especially his piano and violin concertos.

Spinning Alexander Lazarev conducting the USSR Academic Symphony Orchestra playing Peter Tchaikovsky's Pieces For Orchestra (Overtures, Marches). This is a Melodiya record I picked up last Sat (cleaned today and spun for the first time today).

I need an RCM, even a DIY will do if it does the job well.

Josh,

I'll focus on finding Furtwangler once I get my hands on my table:sad: ( getting it is strikingly similar to the India growth story - so near yet so far).

Tchaikovsky by Klemperer - how good are they? Quality of the recordings?

Regards

Tchaikovsky is best played by Russians. Or so I think. The Melodiya recordings sound real good. But this may not be because it is Melodiya. It could very well be that the record is in fine condition. I do have Tchaikovsky from other labels. May be I can do an A/B.

Listening to Sargent conducts Sibelius (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra). Big sound from the modern master of symphonies. I especially like Symphonic Poem Finlandia. This recording is from the mid sixties, HMV England.

A great achievement today - 11 records cleaned.:) At least 50 more to go.
