Vinyl I am listening to...

Was playing my Lawrence Welk 78rpm record yesterday on the Garrard RC210, was testing the auto-mechanism. The songs on either side were: Baby Elephant Walk and Pretend.

You may be wondering why I am referring to the record using "was" and "were". Unfortunately, after playing the record, my little 2 year old son took it to have a look at it (when I was not looking) and dropped it, shattering it to pieces. What a tragedy!! When I was a little boy (maybe 2 or 3yrs), I used to ask my dad to play this 78 over and over again for me. Was really sad when this happened. Poor little guy, he's been down with viral fever so I had to excuse him unconditionally too.

Ruben Sorry to hear of your broken 78, I remember seeing the movie "Hatari" way back in the 60's and enjoyed "Baby Elephant Walk" which was a huge hit in those days.

Sorry to hear that . It is a nice record and the "quality of brass" is too good in this record. No need to mention anything special about Lawrence Welk because he is a special musician.
I have this 78 rpm and I think I have same in 45 RPM too. May be two copies. If you would like to have the 45 RPM one please send me a PM with address. I can send it as a Xmas gift.

Regards,
Anil

Oh, that would be lovely, was still wondering how I could get another one as "baby elephant walk" was a favourite of mine, since my early childhood.

If I were with you, I would have looked out for a second copy of only the 5LPs

Stone temple pilots
Neil Younf
U2
Pearl Jam
REM :)

Bob Dylan, i have few, and would skip him there..

You got one of my fav album Reveal by REM

Regards,
Sachin

Oh cool! Yes it's a great album, I am a big REM fan. Reveal is a tough album to find on vinyl, and I spent years looking for it. Finally found it in a shop in Boston so I picked it up. Now I just need "Around the Sun" and I will have every single REM studio album on vinyl!

Wow! :clapping:

Btw I see the Pearl Jam's new album that you were waiting for. Did the package finally arrive or did you buy another one? :ohyeah:

Also about the Metallica's 4 LP box set..They're 45 RPM right? How does the band sound on it (considering they have 2012-13 live recordings of concerts and I'm not a big fan of Hetfield's vocals these days)? Its available on Flipkart but for 3.8k :spam: Plus its not the numbered version (the 3LP, 33 RPM version is available there)!

Just out of interest, which number have you got? :)

Actually, my Pearl Jam that I ordered from Ten Club directly and pre-ordered back in July STILL has not come!!! I found a copy in HMV London so decided to pick it up anyhow. Might get stuck with 2 copies of this, in which case I will probably sell the other one on here at some point :)

Yep Metallica is the 45 rpm one. Picked it up on a whim, I like Metallica but not obsessed. I had tickets to see them in Bangalore but didn't end up going as I felt too lazy to fly there from Mumbai :P Will check the number and let you know. I know they made 4000 of them total. I think the 33 rpm version is on coloured vinyl so you should pick that up if you can.

What's this? Compile? Nick Drake never had an s/t album.

Yes! At last someone else acknowledges this super super band!

The Nick Drake is actually a reissue of the s/t compilation that was released in the US in the 70s. Apparently it was the first US Nick Drake release as his first 2 albums were not technically released in the US until later, so this was the only way to get his music in the states. But right after pressing this album, there was some problem with the label and some dispute and the album got cancelled. A few were already pressed so the record label punched out holes in the corners so that the records could not technically be sold. This reissue also has a fascimile of the "punch hole" to make it look authentic to the original release.

XTC rules! Wanted this LP for a while but for some reason seemed hard to find. Picked it up at a great price.

Pearl is a Japanese Quadraphonic March 71 release. The Rose movie was loosely based on Janis Joplins life - Bette Milders performance as JJ was just outstanding!!
