Vinyl I am listening to...

Elsewhere in Phono/Turntable link, an interesting discussion is on about Eagles & Hotel California that in turn made me to listen to some of their albums! Eagles as a group and its individual members' solo efforts are pretty laid back and easy, except for Don Henley's 'Building the perfect beast' that I find quite appealing!

Ive one of the initial 1976 US pressings of 'Hotel California' that is in very good condition - Gatefold sleeve with folder poster of group in B&W.

Dead-wax etching on A-B sides:
7E 1084 A -4 RE CSM "IS IT SIX O'CLOCK YET?
7E-1084 B -5 RE CSM "V.O.L. IS FIVE PIECE LIVE
STERLING (stamped) LH (etched) in small print on both sides

I too have this one in 180 gm vinyl in mint condition with all inner sleeves . I just love to hear the opening guitar portion of "Hotel California" song repeatedly... It gives me some kind of positive energy....may be I am tuned like that....

@sughosh
For me, listening to these pop albums after 15+ years is a revealing experience, as I never expected to enjoy them after the long break!!!

Alison Moyet has class. Too bad she faded away.

It's not surprising that you still like what you liked a decade and half ago. Sometimes I really enjoy listening to 80s Brit pop, except for electronic and dance of music of that era, or anything with a reggae tinge. My personal bias is that reggae as practiced outside of the Caribbean doesn't sound as authentic. Or as good.

Alison is quite prolific as compared to many of her contemporaries! Apart from her 80s solo efforts and other collaborations, she has released about half a dozen albums and is quite active even today! The problem is that she hardly does anything to promote her albums! However, youll find quite a number of her later day music on the net - there is even a comparative analysis done on Adele and Alisons musical prowess!

I always found Brit pop artists are musically adventurous as compared to the ones from the States! My collection of Reggae music is very limited - a few of Bob Marley & the Wailers, UB40, some solo & assorted collections. However, during one of the offers at Planet-M, more than a decade back, I bought a numbered 4-CD box set Tougher than Tough - The Story of Jamaican Music for about Rs.500/-!!! This collection is about the evolution of Jamaican music since the late 50s - a very informative and exciting music!

Agree totally on Brits > States. Even in the 80s some fab bands like XTC, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout. All unique in their own way.

Mate, have you heard Black Uhuru. Some really nice non commercial underground Reggae.

Cheers...

Spinning this wonderful record with soulful songs - In remembrance of a great but an underrated actor Farookh Sheikh. A man of substance over style.

Another maestro Jagjit Singh lends his voice to soulful ghazals in Saath-Saath.
