@sughosh
Yes, Alison is one of the few white singers with incredible voice! Ive one more LP, Alf, of hers. Both these albums were produced during initial years of her career.

Al Di Meola - Electric Rendezvous. Excellent music, excellent sonics. This guy was supposedly the guy who invented shred guitar.

Played over the weekend:

The Beatles - Hey Jude (my copy has the original title "The Beatles Again" on the LP label)
Kraftwerk - The man machine
U2 - With or without you 7" single

I really like that album. However I prefer Elegant Gypsy and Casino a lot more! Thanks to you I'm listening to an Al Di Meola album after a long time :)

John McLaughlin / Al Di Meola / Paco De Luca ? Friday Night In San Francisco [1981 US Press, Columbia Records]

This is simply a jaw dropping live album. One of the best ever! Quote from Wiki : "It was described by jazz author and critic Walter Kolosky as 'a musical event that could be compared to the Benny Goodman Band's performance at Carnegie Hall in 1938 ... [it] may be considered the most influential of all live acoustic guitar albums' "

p.s. I'm not too sure..but I think this album was recorded the day John Lennon was shot!

I found Friday Night In San Francisco LP in a very unexpected place, and I am very happy for it:) My favourite track is of course Mediteranean Sundance. My bro and one his friends used to duet on that number.

Honestly, I have only heard of Al Di Meola in passing. More as part of the above mentioned trio, and not as a solo artist, till I came across this album. And this was just the second time that I listened to the record. Earlier listen was just a casual listen after it was cleaned. McLaughlin has always been the bigger (guitar) hero for me. My interest in Paco de Lucia was revived after a friend who had been to Spain kindly brought back his Concerto de Aranjeuz album for me.

An album in similar vein to the one you mentioned: Saturday Night in Bombay: Remember Shakti - Shankar Mahadevan,John McLaughlin,Shakti | Songs, Reviews, Credits, Awards | AllMusic

The sonics on this live recording is unbelievably good. One venue where it was recorded was the open air Rang Bhavan - erstwhile home of Independence Rock till the Govt clamped down on live performances at that site, and the other is a regular auditorium (the hallowed Carnatic performance venue of Shanmukhananda Hall).

I'm a huge Mahavishnu Orchestra fan!

I bought this few months ago :

This includes the 'Saturday night in Bombay' performance (except for the first song Luki). Great DVD. Has lot of bonus stuff. Old footage concerts. The CD of Saturday night in Bombay is really hard to find. It was only released on tape in India. Wonder why no CD here :indifferent14: Hope they re-issue it on vinyl someday.
