Vinyl I am listening to...

Hi Friends

Happy Weekend

right now spinning "Ram Teri ganga maili " although this is a Mono recorded, but sounds more crisp and clearer than "Bobby"

Regards

Tanoj

+1 to Tanoj! The recording & pressing of Ram teri Ganga Maili is very crisp & clear. However, 'Mono' is printed all over it, but it's better than many stereo records! Unfortunately, my copy was damaged to an extent.

Sorry, duplicate post.

Mods, please delete it at your convenience.

Thanks.

Jamie Callum - The Pursuit. Double records, 45 rpm.
Diana Krall - Quiet Nights. Sonics not too good on this album.

My fav. KC album! Masterpiece! :clapping:

King Crimson - Red (1974 Scandinavian Press, Island Records)

Another fantastic album. This album was a huge influence on Iron Maiden (this was I think the first ever album to feature twin/harmonic-guitar-solos)

Wishbone Ash - Argus (1976 Japanese Reissue, MCA Records)

Yeah Red would be great to have on vinyl, though I like the Belew years better - Discipline would be on my wishlist.

I have ELP's debut and Brain Salad Surgery. Used to have loads of TYA too, now I just have the "Recorded Live" 2 LP set and "Rock and roll music to the world"

How many of KC albums you have?

And how about Emerson Lake Palmer & Ten Years after? If any

I have KC's debut, Larks Tongues in Aspic and Red. Discipline and Lizard (the artwork on that album..exquisite! I love almost all KC album covers actually..) are on my wishlist. And no..no ELP or Ten Years After in my collection (not too fond of TYA).

I have ELP's debut and Brain Salad Surgery
Those 2 ELP albums are on my wishlist :)

Whoa, didnt think TYAs were that hard to get... over the years picked up and let go of Cricklewood Green, Shhh, and Alvin Lee & Co. I suppose those were different times...with collectors increasing by the day everything's becoming rare

For fans of early British blues-rock, the first six albums of Ten Years After - eponymous first, Stonedhenge, Undead, Sssh, Cricklewood Green and Watt, all relased by 1970 - are essential titles. Some are also available in Mono. The later TYA albums are spotty, and more pop oriented. They got artistically ruined by their performance of Woodstock, after which Alvin Lee was put under too much pressure by that 'fastest guitarist' tag to keep doing the 'endless boogie' act in live performance. He was far more talented than that, as some of his later solo albums show.

Spinning two very dissimilar music:
1) Kim Carnes - Mistaken Identity - I love her voice. If Bonnie Tyler was 10 (out of 10) on the "gravelly-ness" scale, Kim Carnes would be somewhere midway.
2) Luminescense - composed by Keith Jarrett with improvisations by Jan Garbarek (with Strings of Sudfunk Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart). This is from '74. My copy has a very bad cover but the record itself is in excellent condition. BTW, another very interesting Keith Jarrett composed album is Ritual, with piano by Dennis Russell Davies.
Luminescense is devoid of niceties like a sleevenote. Ritual at least has 13 lines of "backsleeve" note by Davies.

Does others also enjoy reading sleevenotes like I do? BTW, the most wonderful sleevenote I have ever come across is by Kavi Alexander for the Water Lily Records album Tabula Rasa.

Addendum: it is nice to come to the end of tweaking the analog setup and for a change simply sit down to listen to the music. The last "tweak" I did was to check on the oil in the platter bearing and top up a few mls.

As i have almost 4000 English records, I should be sharing more on this thread and I promise to do so in future. I was recently floored by a Erroll Garner "plays misty". Everthing is written in French so I can read French. He is a pianist with a difference. He plays with a wonderful skill and incidently, I picked it up from a lot of records I had kept for sale. The French pressing is superb and his style is endearing. If anyone knows more about this pianist, do enlighten me please

Talking about Erroll Garner. I have his famous live album. My dad picked it up from Scotland 2 years ago. The record shop owner added this LP for free to the few records my dad bought from him :) It's a magnificent jazz album! The sound quality of this LP is such that the bass and drums aren't very audible besides the comical sound of the drummer moaning :p However, even if this was a purely solo piano performance, as opposed to a trio, I would still regard this record with high esteem. It sounds classical and deadly at the same time! This guy was a genius.

Quote from wiki about this live recording:

The album was recorded on September 19, 1955 in a converted church in a military base near Carmel, California. The acoustics were poor and the piano somewhat out of tune. The balance of instruments on the recording is also poor: the bass and drums are receded. There was no plan to record the concert officially. The release came about because Garner's personal manager, Martha Glaser, spotted backstage that a tape recorder was running. The recording was being made "by a jazz fan and scholar named Will Thornbury, strictly for the enjoyment of himself and his fellow servicemen". Glaser took the tape, put it into album form and then played it for the head of Columbia Records' jazz division, George Avakian, who decided to release it.

Will check out Erroll Garner Plays Misty!

After 'Time Out' by Dave Brubeck, 'Concert by the sea' is one of the best selling Jazz LPs of all time. I see you you have an early Mono pressing on the Columbia 6-eye label, which was renowned for high quality sound and pressings. Sadly, I've never managed to score a clean copy of this album - most used copies in India have been well worn. For a piano album, you need to have it in pristine condition.

Continuing last weekends's 70's mood:

John Denver's Greatest Hits Vol. 2
The Guess Who - #10 (Quadra-disc - wish I had the equipment to hear this as was intended)

After falling in love with the album by Erroll Garners 'Misty', I dug my entire collection and came out with another Erroll Garner album "Penthouse serenade". His control over the keyboard is amazing. I have just started listening to "Penthouse Serenade". His style of play has been mesmerizing for me. I am new to Jazz and if Forum Members can mention any other similar talented Jazz pianists, I would be grateful

Thanks for promising to participate on this thread. We need more people for variety as different people have different tastes in music. And I strongly believe we can learn of good music from what others listen/recommend.
