Thanks, I hope so too. The Blu-ray is also directly available from BBC Shop UK for GBP 24.25 with a shipping cost of GBP 7.50. That's GBP 31.75 and is more than double of what it originally sold for on Amazon.co.uk. Way too expensive!

After reading this thread decided to go with BBC series blu-ray like Planet Earth - Special Edition, life etc.. but dont see region free any further, region says b/2 guys who already bought it are lucky enough tho.. Not sure when region free discs would be available... :sad:

At long last I am welcoming myself to the previleged club of those who pay customs duty. Yes, after a stint of 16 contiguous orders without the customs slapping any duty, today my postman issued the dreaded challan :yahoo: for Rs.513 for a four item (3BD+1DVD) order.

I hope it this is an exception than the standard

C'mon guys, I know this is a touchy topic but I don't understand what is the issue with paying customs duty?

The Blu-rays of Planet Earth (Special Edition), Life etc available on Amazon.co.uk are region free only. Why do you think region free discs are not available any further? Please clarify.

If you are referring Amazon's product details section, you can conveniently ignore that part. Planet Earth series IS Region free.

Planet Earth Spl Edition is region free. I have it and it is region free. Go and order it. In the unlikely event you end up with a region b disk, I can help you by exchanging the disks. My player is region free.

If anyone wants to buy it then let me know.. its a sealed pack boxset.. purachase price was 1115Rs.. I'll sell it on actual price.. This price includes shipping to anywhere in india..

Looking into the product description, it said region B/2 so was a lil upset, as it did'nt have the [region free] written on the title of these dics as it was before.. but I am happy now hearing it would work fine.. and thanks a lot to baijuxavior for giving me a hand to help in exchanging the discs incase it does not work out.. am happy to buy now.. So, contrary to what you had hoped, customs duty is becoming the standard rather than an one-time aberration. Hmm, may the customs officials saw packages getting sent to you too frequently and decided to do something about it!

issue is inconsistency and lack of standard amount charged as custom duty and charged or not charged fr similar amount in different cities...and the delay in receiving packs is solely bec of the parcels getting stuck with the custom babu being confused whethr to charge or not charge any duty on this movie lover!

Nowadays even my postman whenevr he arrives with my amazon uk parcels has a sheepish grin..expecting a tip!!

Ooh, it does not indeed have the "Region Free" tag in the title that it used to have earlier. But as idlebrain said, I think we can ignore the product information. The product cannot be suddenly become region encoded without it being a new release.

Precisely. Unless there is an understandable rationale and uniformity with which the customs duty are charged, people would continue to debate on the relevance of this particular instrument. Nobody is denying the government what is due to them, but it has to happen in a more transparent and homogeneous way.

Yes, amazon.co.uk has been good to do business with. Recently they not only apologised for shipping Blade Runner bluray with a duplicated first disc, they promptly refunded the cost of it without asking to post it back to them! So, one disc is virtually free.
