Got Band of Brothers and HP7 Part2 in separate packages without duty :)

However, Band of Brothers package got damaged and some of the glass cases got damaged :(

Its great to hear DTS HD MA audio after all those rips.

How to avoid duties

I have placed 7 to 8 orders on Amazon, UK so far - I was charged duty thrice. But I think I have found a way to avoid duties. The parcel must be marked as a gift, i.e., the packing label on the parcel must clearly state the package as gift.

Marking individual discs are gifts does not make much difference it seems. This only causes the item list manifest (inside the package) to mark DVDs/BDs/CDs as gifts. The outside package still says "merchandise".

At the time of check out, click on "Mark items as gift" (even if you have done so earlier). You will again the gift wrapping option screen. Click OK and then proceed for payment. Only if you do this, the package will be marked as "gift".

On a side note, my last four orders were all duty free because of the above procedure. All my last four orders were delivered within 7 to 15 days of dispatch date. Previously, when package was charged customs duty, the delivery took 30-40 days. I received "HP8-Part 2" BD on 7th (dispatched on 1st)!!! :)

Didn't work for me. Even sent it to a relatives address. Tough luck I guess.

Yes I did. It came marked as gift. The postman apparently asked my relative to take it up with customs when he raised his concern over Customs charged. He called me as soon as he received it. I just couldn't be bothered to haggle with the customs dept and knew it wouldn't be of any use either. So left it at that.

Yes. That is true. But that is the only trick that will work - if the package is marked as merchandise, duty will be charged by default.

In any case, the duty is a small price to pay. Even with duty the price works out cheaper. Without duty it is like "sone pe suhaga". :)

Yesterday I visited Ril Timeout, and found that Thor DVD was priced at 599 Rs (Without any discount).

Through Amazon UK I bought Thor 3D Bluray + 2D Bluray + DVD + Digital Copy (no use) for 1092 Rs. (14 pounds).

Amazing value for money from Amazon UK purchases.

Received my 19th BD consignment within the past 4 months (about 100 BDs). All marked as gifts. No duty charged yet. :yahoo:

Mate, the Rs 599 copy would be one which Indian Censor Board would have contributed significantly to.....hence always a chance that you would not get to see the entire movie or as we call it "Directors Cut" ....the way director wants you to see uncensored with all scenes intact.............you made the right decision by paying extra.

Also depends on whether this particular movie did have any blood gore scenes or not.......

Ordered two BDs : Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy - Limited Collector's Edition (Blu-Ray+Digital Copies)Region Free GBP 23.31 and Ocean Wonderland (Blu-ray 3D+Blu-ray) GBP 9.99.

Jurassic Park Trilogy is an absolute steal for the money. The packaging itself is eyecatching which has couple of post cards, booklet, poster, art cards, sticker. It has total of 6 discs inside, all packed in an attractive aluminium case.
Ordered on 1st Dec, received the package today, no duty. Total cost for both BDs GBP 33.30

Definitely would recommomend for sheer packaging and value for money. (it's entirely a different issue if you are not into dinos..):)

I ordered two Blu-rays on 29/11/2011:
Planet Earth: complete Blu-ray series and Alien Anthology together billed for 22.87 UK pounds. It was shipped through Deutsche Post DHL on 2/12/2012.The packet was delivered yesterday by local postman to the security gate of my apartment. The packet was later delivered to my home. I found the outer packing unsealed and one of the disk (Alien..) removed. I wrote to Amazon and they are willing to replace the missing disk. They have commented that "As the package was sent to International location we aren't able to track about the missing item, it appears the item was being removed by the carrier." The casing also does not show any delivery stamps of either the post office or any courrier except that of customs. It is apparent that the item is sent as ordinary parcel as there is no record .But I am now worried that the packet may be tinkered again by the culprit whoever may be in the channel.

Where should I lodge my complaint to prevent such pilferage in the future ?

Can somebody comment ?

First time tried USA Amazon n damn mighty pissed! For 3 blu-rays totalling $ 38.95 including regular shipping I was made to pay Rs. 1560 to some Express-it courier when the parcel arrived on my door step...What frustrated me more was in the tracking it showed Out for delivery for last 3 days and it comes today :(

When I called express it abt the charges they said they can't help it.
Should I contact US Amazon n demand refund? if yes how? where?

It says "Out for Delivery" the moment it is dispatched from Mumbai (hence 3 days). You can actually type your tracking address provided by i-parcel in your Amazon.com account page in text box at express it website. Lemme know if they gave you the customs bill.

As for demanding refund, I do not think you can. Because on Amazon website they clearly say that imported goods may be subject to duty and octroi charges as applicable.
