Help Required in buying 42" TV

^^^^
Burn in , are you sure ?

I own a v20 and a ps3, i did a marathon gaming for about 8 hours at a stretch with about 2 or 3 very short breaks under a minute, i didn't get any burn in or image retention. Sorry to say this but IR and burn in is kind of over exaggerated wrt to current generation plasmas ;)

Mr Nagpal is missing. May be he already got LE5500?

I really enjoyed this thread.

I am zeroing in on Sony Ex720, my dealer has quoted 74000/-

You get 3D LED, power consumption is only 115 W (one third of V20 - 350 W).
Full HD 1080 picture quality with Edge LED backlight
3D Integrated (Full HD 3D) features a built-in 3D Transmitter
X-Reality picture engine
XR200 motions flow (120 hz)

Imagine 10 hour of TV viewing per day and an extra power of 235 W for 10 hours of the day. :-)

Out of curiosity, I just calculated the power cost per month. Its only Rs 165/- extra for 10 hour viewing of extra 235 W for V20

The 115watt for the lcd is the max power consumption when the backlight is set to max(you have to watch with sun glasses at those settings),todays 46" CCFL lcd under optimum settings consume less then 100watt.
The 40EX720 should consume around 80watt or less under optimum backlight settings.

guyz don't be mislead by wrong info. The V20D after calibration consumes just 180watts. Well that anyways a bigger figure than 80 watt figure but still a small price you are paying extra for the PQ.

Have you compared EX720 and V20 side by side for PQ?
I did and found no difference at all.

Also the following link reviewed rates EX720 better than VT20 - the two comparable 3D TVs

White levels & constrast ratio are better for EX720.
Only black level is marginally better for VT20 -> 0.03 against EX720's 0.06.

Test Results in the link: "The Sony KDL-32EX720 outstripped the Panasonic TC-P50VT20 in our color performance tests. It had a more consistent color temperature and much smoother RGB color curves"

"The Panasonic TC-P50VT20 showed a slightly superior motion performance"
16 for EX720 and 17 for VT20.

Forget about the mathematics that these companies give which in most cases bloated. But if you find it similar with your eyes then it should be correct. I don't remember I have compared any Sony model. The primary comparison I had was between samsung models since they are no.1 sellers of flat TVs worldwide and more over I think they sell more value for money and good quality where as sony is over hype and costly in most cases. I found better PQ in V20 compared to LG and samsung similar LED/LCDs.

Is the EX720 a new model? At Reliance digital where I bought the TV the sales guy never mentioned sony TVs he was pushing samsung and LG.

The EX720 is definitely the choice for you ;) , also brighter the picture doesn't mean better quality :)

.

Agree, the only SONY product i purchased is a PS3  .. my parents have a Wega and technically its not mine :D ..

Personally apart form the power consumption figures, i didn't find anything prompting me to adopt LED over Plasma ( I was considering ex 700). In the end the PQ won over power consumption figures which any ways tends to be bloated. My power bills have risen by approx 80 to 100 rupees INR on account of the Plasma set but i guess it can be managed ...

Sorry for not being active for last few days, infact weeks...

@Mr. Govi

No, I haven't bought any TV yet.

Also, PANASONIC INDIA announced new HDTVs today :clapping:

So, Looking forward to them now :yahoo:

I agree that PQ is individual's preference. VIVID, Natural, Darkness etc are some preferences. So its better to go with the person's choice if what he has seen is liked by him.

Coming to Samsung, I find that the problems reported on this brand are more when compared to Sony. Thats the reason I did not opt for Samsung.

The sales persons were pushing me too for LG and Samsung. May be they have greater margins in them?

Its true, V20'a PQ is superior compared to LG LE5500 or Samsung C6000 which I saw side by side.

:-) True. But a lot of light in my drawing room, so I am prefering a TV which can be brighter.

@anish ------- EX720 is a new sony TV released in Mid March 2011

The present trend seems to be that Samsung & LG are quoting a bit above the Sony for models with comparable features i.e. TVs above 60K

Good news. Where did the announcement happen. Is there a url available?

Sorry, that I can't share a url on this as I saw it in TV.

Panasonic launched their new features in IPTV service in India, along with 2011 models of HDTVs and camcorders.

Trying to get some link, will post asap :)

Now the 2011 Pana models are available in Hyderabad. Yesterday had a look at 42 X30. Looked nice and well equipped.

peeyushm, that's great news. Could you please specify which showroom were you able to see the new models? And also, which are the new models available? I'm specifically interested in the ST series.
