LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

Why don't you guys talk to forum members in pune who already own the PK550. You can demo the same at there home. You may not be able to compare with other TVs but you will surely get some idea. The best thing by doing this you will be able to see the best and the worst of the TV. My suggestion would be audition the TV before buying the same. 60K is not a small amount. Take your time and then decide.

Guys can you share the settings you have on your TV.

I am planning to modify the settings for the following connections

Standard mode --> Tata Sky HD
Cinema mode --> Media player/Dvd Player
Game mode --> My future Xbox 360 console.

I don't plan to use the Vivid and sport modes.

The other day when the LG technician had come to upgrade the firmware was surprised that they had not given any expert modes for this TV. I asked him whether i can enable the modes from the service menu. He mentioned he cannot as it is not available. The only way is to upgrade the software which has these modes. I am not sure whether i can completely trust what he says but it is interesting that there service engineers are also not aware of the setting available.

Excellent suggestion !!
So... who is inviting?
We are waiting.

One thing noticed while I was comparing pk550 & c550
Pk power consumption - 202w
50c - 350w
why such big difference when both are 50 inch plasmas

I talked with some LG showroom managers today. They are also promoting LED models. When they are having such good Plasma TV, to promote LED is a shame.

350w must be the spec max for c550, i have a sua 1000i ups connected to all the setup and its max load is 670w, it shows only 20% load during normal operation, plasma power consumption varies with screen content and not constant like lcd's and when i connect onkyo avr and plasma shows full screen white bright scene then only it goes to 40% load

it is another myth that plasma consumes too much power, none of the new gen plasma are power hungry like old ones

Does anyone in Pune have a PK550 that I can audition?
I am getting tempted for the 60 incher. VivekM, any update on the corp/group buy?

Hey,

Pune guys can come to my house. Just make sure that you dont come btwn the saas bahu serials or i wont get food for 2-3 days. My mom is pretty keen not to miss her serials.

Also bring your own stuff eg player/media etc from which you can test your stuff and decide.

Regards
Sid.

Sigh! I'm going on a hiatus from hifivision till such time my replacement comes. All this waiting is perturbing me. I have a feeling price rise for PK might be on the cards. COnsolidation of stocks and a stay on release of new stocks usually signifies that, (as we smokers have seen with cigarette prices). I'll be back when I get my set. Thanks for all the support guys, and enjoy your TVs

Okay...i found out which city i live in....hehe:ohyeah:kidding....and yes there are no PK550 on display in Pune....also the dealer said the price has been hiked by 2-3k....dont know how true it is......

Guys please tell me when to use the colourwash and whitewash options....

I mean after how much usage or what type of content watching will i have to
do clourwash and whitewash.....and for how much time????

Dhananjay

Guys.....someone please take the pain to answer my question....i am already using the TV continuously......
Hence i would appreciate if u guys help me out at the earliest...thanks

Dhananjay.

Hey Dhananjay,

You need to use colourwash and whitewash only if you see some retention issues on your TV. If really want then before swithcing of the Tv run either colour wash or white wash for a few minutes.

Please ensure that most of the time keep the ISM mode to orbiter. This will reduce the probability of image retention.

Srinivas

The first page of this discussion has the answer. :D

You run it in case there is TIR(Temporary Image Retention) in your display. TIR as name suggest, generally go off after some time. But these washes is the quickest way to remove TIRs. Recommendation is to run it before switching off the display; so that it can get rid of any TIR that might have formed during the usage.

That said I never ran it till date ;)

Can anybody give detailed information on following terms in simple language?
Temporary Image Retention
Colour Wash
White Wash
Break in process
Break in slides
Calibration

I know there is already information on this in this thread. But quite difficult to understand for newbies like me.
