Marantz CD6003 Group Buy

Hi srini,

I got my CD 5003 for 9.2k from singapore during last quarter of 2010, CD 6003 was costing around 15k at that time. I guess that the prices must be the same now. :licklips:

You will have to spend as much on a DAC as the CD6003 at minimum to get a decent sound that may not best the 6003. Then you will need to spend another 5 K for a cheap (DVD player) low quality CD transport that will not be as good as the CD6003.

I actually think you will need to spend much more than the 6003 on a reasonable DAC. You're dead right.

I think the choice should be based on the kind of source material that will be used. More CDs than digital files = CD Player. More digital files than CDs = SB Touch (or similar solution).

Well seeing the response here, I for one am not going to do any more legwork on this deal as it seems to be heading in the no deal route. I was 99% already prepared for this reaction as have seen this kind of thing happen earlier too in the forum, yet decided to give it a shot. My friends here already bombarded me with angry PM's asking why make a fool of myself? Ho hum - no offense taken & no need to apologize, will now wait for getting a 'Better' deal from helpful HFV'ians like srinisundar or any other good natured member here who is going to gulf, singapore in the near future & IS willing to lug a piece for me
Needless to say the price should work out to max 14k:licklips: as anything more would not make any sense.

Hey! Atleast you dared and put in efforts to take this ahead...and one who dares wins!!

I was on the fence and am now going ahead with the purchase of this CDP @17.5k without B&W. Thanks for your efforts. I think if that was the best group buy price, a single piece @ the same price is worth it.

I am impatient and don't intend waiting till eternity for a "Better" deal

Yes, I will keep trying to get the best deals in future, I will continue as I want to keep these dealers of AV products in India on their toes After all its our hard earned money & want to get the full value of our purchases.

In the meantime, can any helpful HFV'ians like Srinisundar get us a good deal on a CD6003??? Denzong, can you help us too??? Asking since you are making a trip to singapore almost immediately, hence asking for your help! THANKS

guys i would be going there soon but we are just 2 people there so cant carry a lot of stuff cause i am also planning to bring in amp and a tt.
but incase if i can be guided before and someone can make that purchase in July then i have my parents going. they can carry for me back. (2 pieces but it has to be pre bought and given to them, they will just carry it).

Dont giveup on the group buy, let it run as it is. It can co ahead who are ready to pick at the mentioned price. As i mentioned in the first post it is a price which we cannot get in India.

For those frequent visitors who were going to abroad can save some more bucks to compensate the trip cost.

I am ready to help whenever i get a chance.. may be this month end as indicated from saudi can do something if somebody locate an shop.

What is Best today will get overthrown when something Better gets launched tomorrow. If one goes by reviews CD6003 is the best in that price range. A few months down the prices will fall and it might get available at 12k-13k locally. But if one wants it now, he needs to pay the price. Not that I have money to splurge. I too hunt around for the best bargains and if I feel that the price I would be paying at that point in time is the best, I jump into it.
Your efforts in finding out the best rates for this CDP helped me tremendously to arrive at a decision. It might happen that prices will fall by end of June, but I for one wont regret my decision.

I have experienced many instances where in I do my studies and wait for the right time/best price to buy and by then the product is out of the market. I was vying for the Pioneer DVD 610 in black which I couldnt get when I finally wanted to buy, despite of my best efforts hunting for it. Finally bought Yamaha DVD2700 through eBay which was 110V and now have to use a step down.

I was reading about the Panasonic Plasma 42V20D since Dec10 and waited till April11 to lay my hands on it. Then the wait was for the 2011 models and when I realized that there is no comparable 2D model in the current year I started hunting for the V20. By then the stocks for this model had exhausted in Mumbai and a Navi Mumbai dealer who had one piece expected me to pay a premium. 9k extra compared to the least price he had sold it for. I had given up on this, but thanks to HFV where members had posted about this model available with Croma. I took a day off and went and booked it @ the negotiated price.

I dont intend to experience the same with my CDP buy and going ahead with my purchase.

@denom: just saw this thread! - have been logging into that other group buy thread every day hoping to hear from supermod. As someone said, he's waiting for a dealer to get back. I guess its only the two of us left now - not much of a group buy

Anyway, kudos on your effort. Atleast you took time out to do this. Honestly I think the landed price (~21K) is what made people rethink...including me. Especially when I read about people getting it for 12-14K.

Take heart man! Supermod am sure will come back with something good - ref the speaker stands group deal going on right now. Have been scratching my hair off wondering how to sell the idea of two 20kg black poles in our living room to the wife

I reckon, true audiophiles don't give too much of a damn on product pricing .... kind of, do not look at the cheapest on prices for a particular 'model'. More like ... 'saali pey dil aa gaya' (.. lost my heart to ...). When such a thing happens, don't think a few chips matter here and there ... right?
