onkyo hts 3300

All the owners of 3300 , please confirm if Audio from Tata Sky HD comes to TV ,when Onkyo HTS 330 is not in action ?
This is HDMI Audio passthrough , this feature is required when some time you dont want to 5.1 Audio setup to be ON, for example watching news on Tata SKY HD which is attached to A/V Recv.

Quoted by one of the reviews on Amazon: "You can also turn on the Audio TV Out option on and only use your TV's speakers if you don't want to use the receiver's speakers for some reason."

So, It should be able to do what u are looking for :)

Cheers!!

Thanks,

this feature is required in some scenarios for e.g.

Tata SKY HD -> HDMI -> AVR -> TV
and you are watching non HD channel, why you need sound through AVR , so in this case AVR should be in STANDBY mode, Audio & Video will be passed as-is to TV, which is fine for watching news channel (why to load AVR speakers ).

And when you want to watch Discover HD, turn ON AVR , now enjoy 5.1 sound thorugh AVR speakers

I read through all 21 pages of this post! Great post! I am going to buy the S3300 pretty soon within a week :)
I have 3 small questions:
1) I have a Iomega 1TB Screenplay Director with HDMI output which I used to connect to TV directly to watch movies. Can I connect it now to HDMI in of S3300 and connect the HDMI out of S3300 to TV? Will it still play with same video clarity? This is the main reason I want to go for home theater with HDMI in, so that I can both watch HD video on TV and surrond HD sound on the home theater speakers.
2) Does S3300 has an USB input? Can it recognise HD formats like mkv, mp4 etc? (of course I really need not worry about this as my Iomega should take care of this, but still...if I connect a pendrive with mkv movie to the S3300)
3) Has anybody tried the 3D feature of this S3300? Does it look good? Even though I dont have a 3D tv now, I would like to see this feature working as I want to make my HTIB future proof i.e. tomorrow I will just need 3D Blu-Ray player and 3D TV
Thank you guys! :)

Yes absolutely. That's what it is for.

Dear all friends I am new in this forum. I am going to buy Onkyo hts 3300 . A dealer in Kolkata quoting me Rs.- 23000 for that. Should I go for it?

I have read in many forums that the sub-woofer is passive and not that great. Its good, but could have done with powered sub-woofer. My question is can the HTS3300 be coupled with lets say a Z680/Z5500 sub-woofer without using logitech's rest of the speakers? So experts, please shed some light on whether this is even possible :(

Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and new to this AVR world, hope you all Welcome me!!

I have gone through ever WORD of this 21page thread. Thank you all for the valuable info on Onkyo HT-S3300.:clapping:

I wanted to buy Onkyo HTiB 3300 as an upgrade to existing my Sony Hifi GN88D (7500w PMPO, 20cm inbuilt woofer x 2, DVD component system) which is doing its duty since 5 years.

But the sad thing it is not readily available throughout Bangalore now, I have to book it in advance at Modern World.

I have few questions (I'm sure you guys have answers to these)

1. I am basically a music buff, will this system cater to the music needs? how good is 3300 as a music system?
(I will be using this watch movies once or twice a week)

2. My brother was suggesting to go for Denon HTS591, how is the Onkyo 3300 compared to this one? Where can I buy Denon in Bangalore?
(I have checked with PROFX showroom on MGRoad, but it is not available there)

Please take patience to ans these,
Thanks in advance.

Great job HiFiVision!!!

All,

I have finalized Onkyo HTS 3300. The cost is 25k in Modern world Bangalore. An hour before spoke to Mr. Dinesh of Audio Gallery, Coimbatore. He quoted 23k for the HTiB along with free HDMI cable/optical cable.

I'd like to know if anyone has dealt with Mr. Dinesh before and how were your experience and the service/shipment.

Waiting for your answers.

Thanks a lot in anticipation

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum. Bought a HT-S3300 and installed it. I do not have enough HDMI cables to connect my DVD and WD TV Live players. However, I tried connecting my Tata Sky (non HD) DTH via RCA composite. The connections are the following:

1. composite video (yellow) direct to TV
2. composite stereo audio (red & white) to the analog stereo inputs of the receiver

The following is the problem:

I get no sound at all - tried FM, AUX input none worked.

Please help me to get things right ASAP. I'm kinda desperate to use the system.

Thank you Crook and Ontherocks! Your answers really helped. :)

Can anyone answer the third question? Has anybody tried out it?

How's S3300 when compared against Samsung's HT-C6950W? Which one is better?

In the forum many people are saying that Onkyo HT-S3300 does not support Dolby True HD and DTS HD. Is it true? In that case is it advisable to choose HT-S5300?

BTW, can anyone tell the difference between DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio? Which is the most preferred one? Is it that High Resolution Audio is needed only for 7.1 and not for 5.1? (3300 is 5.1 and 5300 is 7.1 and I feel 5.1 should be sufficient to my hall)

One more q: If I go for 5300, can I also use it as 5.1? How to do such a configuration?

Thank you guys! :)

HEY raj,
the 5300 can definitely be used as a 5.1 system, just dont use the side suround speakers. Even better, I am sure the 5300 has zone 2 capabilities, so you can basically use 2 speakers in some other room for music or so, at the same time u still have 5.1 for movies. As for what anyone else tells i dont know but the receiver on 3300 surely plays hd audio via hdmi. unless u have a really big room say beyond 20x20 ft u shouldnt be looking beyond the 3300. cheers.
