onkyo hts 3300

Ok, guys please help, I also got the same deal as saketb, TX-SR508 with Speakers SKS-HT528 for 40k.
Now, I also have a pair of philips bookshelf speakers (pretty nice ones too), tht will complete the 7.1 set up. Seems like the nicest of deals.
Or should I wait for Denon 1311, and Polk 6750, for around 40ks. I dont wanna exceed the 40ks barrier, as I already have exceeded a lot. Also will the Denon-Polk combination be better? I auditioned it, but Onkyo's sub sounded better than the Polk, but Polk's speakers were better I thought.
However, since onkyo's is a 7.1 AVR, I think that's the most tempting part for me... What say people?

Hi,

Just do not give a second thought and go for the Onkyo deal. It is an amazing product and I have been playing with it since I bought it, the last 5 days.

Even the least played in a receiver, The FM radio when played with the Dolby ProLogic II Music sound like it plays it in 5.1 channel output. It separates the different sounds produced and plays like you are listening it in a concert. The lead singer plays thru the centre and the chorus is played thru the rear speakers. Its a very great experience.

I play movies (dvd rips) thru my TV connected by a optical cable to the receiver, plays them in the same 5.1 effect. It feels like real.

Overall a great product from Onkyo, for me its a good future upgradeable as I do not have additional 2 speakers.

I had a demo of 3300 yest, I have a few queries

He had connected following way
a) Tv-> Blue-ray player ---HDMI Video
b) Blue-ray player- Onkyo3300 ------Optical Audio

Now here's the thing,

I made him change the connection to

Blue-ray player - Onkyo3300 ----HDMI Audio and video
Onkyo3300- TV-----HDMI Video

Now the problem is that even after change in connections, there wasnt any difference in quality of the audio.

The audio was always dts hd master, in optical mode it must be sending dts core, and in HDMI I noted the receiver showing "Dts hd master"..

Now i wonder why there wasn't any noticeable difference in quality even after going from lossy(dts-core) to HD(dts-hd) audio.. :(

PS:- The Blueray was a demo disc they got probably from onkyo, and the video it was showing was of a concert on a round stage, and the the guy was riding a cycle too on the stage..

I bought it for Rs.24990/- in Bangalore from Modern World. They gave me a NT HDMI Cable for Rs.500/-.

I do not expect the price to come down below or freebies to be included further as it is in high demand and low supply. Moreover, it is imported hence I don't see a fall in price as they have to add import duties and tax on the original price.

Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD are capable of receiving lossless audio signals from BDP and provide a whole cinematic experience at home. These signals are as original as "Studio" created hence the quality of output should be better when compared to Dolby PLII or DTS.

HDMI only capable of carrying such high bandwidth signals hence Optical cable/Coax cannot help when it comes to Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD. So, your second connection is the right setting unless BDP converting the signal to LPCM.

Regarding your second question, even though the format switches between DTS and DTS HD, the quality of signals recorded in the BD may be absolutely same. That's why you didn't notice any difference.

I have watched Avatar in DTS and also DTS HD through my PS3 and found noticeable quality in sound output. DTS HD gave me a feeling of being in Pandora when the protagonist roaming around alone first time

Hi All,

I just bought a onkyo hts 3300 from Audio Gallery (Coimbatore) Thanks to HiVision Forum for suggesting the name...I got it for 23000 (He shipped it free for me and gave a free optical cable)...

I also got quotes for couple of stand along AVR for my friend ...Thought I will post this if its useful to anyone planning to buy stand alone AVR
Onkyo TX-SR 207 (5.1 Channel) 21000/-
ONkyo TX -SR508 (7.1 Channel) 25000/_

Hi Guys,

My first post on this website.

I am really interested in Onkyo 3300 and I really enjoyed the quality in the Demo as well. Best Sound you will get for the price it is . My Living Area is 8 * 8 and I think it will serve the purpose big time.

In Mumbai its available for 23000 where as Pune is around 25000 (Pune dealers dont bargain much either) . Now I am confused where to buy it from as I live in Pune.

Anybody in Pune know whether Onkyo HtS is available around 23 K..

Hi Guys..

I think this is a great forum for amateur's like me. I had kind of decided to buy sony DAV-DZ510 home theater. Just thought of googling before going to sonyworld here in Bengaluru and thats how I landed up in this forum around a fortnight back. After going through lots and lots of threads I ended up changing my plan and booked this Onkyo-HTS3300 from Modern World Bangaluru on 19th sep. Thanks Saket for your valuable personal suggestions..
Modern World guys had promised me the deivery in 3-4 days.. now the latest so called 200% promise is on 7th oct. Keeping my fingers crossed that delivery hopefully will happen on this day.

Onkyo hts-3300 owners, I am having few queries.. Would be verymuch thankful if you can answer any of these.

1) Is the standard gauge speaker wire given with the product is good enough or 14-16 gauge wire is wise to go with ? I really don't know technicality involved here.. But does it really make considerable difference with higher gauge ?
p.s: I was jus reading few threads in Amazon where guys were advising for better gauge
2) Is Wall mounting with WMB's(wal mount bracket) possible for these speakers.. Shop guy was mentioning it is not possible for this model and jus putting a nail on the wall should suffice. b.t.w My query is, whether wall mounting is good or fixing to a speaker stand is a better option?
Also is it fine to keep front speakers jus on the TV table ?
3) Bluray player or HD media player which is the better way to go with?
I was trying to understand if bluray player is better in anyway as compared to HD media player.
P.s: My requirement is playing movies from my seagate 1TB hardisk/pendrives and viewing online video content.

Thanks in advance,
Pavan

From what I think is that since the setup is entry level and not even low end for that matter, so perhaps, such minute differences aren't clearly visible.

Try with a mid range bookshlef/floorstanding setup, something like Polk RTi or Wharfedale 9.5 or up. You should notice some difference if there is supposed to be any. :)

No way, it was better than the Phillips you keep recommending. And im comparing just the sound quality.

I asked him to put in a movie disk but he didnt have one :(
A Blueray would have cleared things out.

So have the Delhi people gone ahead with the Group buy? I might tag along for audition/ demo. Please let me know as well,

Let me know your personal review of the system once you have it setup.

For point 3, based on the content you mentioned HD Media Players are a way to go. You can select from a range of these available. Members from the forum have even successfully purchased PlayOn HD+ in a group buy from a dealer in Bengaluru who is now offering a special deal price to forum members.

(1) Supplied gauge wire will be fine if your room size less than 15 feet. Check the calculator here Wire gauge calculator

(2.1) WMB not possible because it lacks the screw terminal required.
(2.2) Wall mounting or speaker stands depends on your preference
(2.3) Regarding keeping the front speakers on TV table again depends on the distance between two speakers. You need to have around 5FT distance between them to get a good feeling of LR channel. If you have less than that, then you can change the option of "Listening Angle" as "Narrow".

(3) For your preference, HD Media player is the right option.

All these answers are in the manual.
See page 11 and page 14.
