onkyo hts 3300

Hi guys,
I have solved the "Boomy" woofer issue of Onkyo 3300.
Make sure u get the following settings :
Audessy : OFF
Speakers Config -> all to Large, crossover at 80Hz, double Bass: ON.

Dear Allajunaki,

As you have mentioned regarding the speakers setting to large, the manual says that it depends on the cone size of the speaker which should be >16cm for large otherwise should be small.

I would like to ask you that if this setting is done will it affect the speakers or damage it.....?

Hi
I was going through some of the comments in Amazon.com (For HTS 3300) one of the users did enable the wireless through an additional componenet

Hi,

From the choices you have given, the Onkyo 3300 stands fare better than others. Below I have put some major diff between Onkyo & Yahama respectively:
1. 3 hdmi inputs / 2 inputs
2. 3d support & audio return channel (latest hdmi 1.4a) / none
3. 660watts / 625 watts
4. Build quality on Onkyo is good and speakers look more better in this.
5. Its affordable than the Yahama.

I personally would suggest you to buy the onkyo 3300. I myself am buying this weekend, I am very happy with the specs and the demo.

Anyone here connects laptop to lcd tv? I wanted to know how you pass the audio from laptop to HTS.
I am picking up the 3300 next month. My present setup is to connect the laptop to the tv thru a vga cable for video and take a stereo cable from the laptops headphone jack into the stereo input in the tv.
I wasnt sure of how to manage the audio part when I get my 3300 and also if I will get 5.1 surround sound from my bluray mkv files while playing from the laptop.

PS: My laptop doesnt have a hdmi port.

To get 5.1 channel output your laptop needs to have digital/SPDIF output.
Laptops either have a coaxial SPDIF output or SPDIF output together with analog in the headphone jack (you select which one to use through the windows sound controller software).
There is no other way other than buying an external USB sound card with digital outputs.
If any of the above isn't true in your case then you can only get Stereo sound.(stereo when the audio is inherently stereo, or downmixed stereo when the audio is more than 2 channels). For this you can connect to your laptops headphone jack to Onkyo using the 3.5mm stereo to RCA cable.

Hey Guys,

I went to the Onkyo showroom to buy the HTS3300 yesterday and found that there was no stock available for the next 15 days. I was really disappointed and wanted to buy it badly as I was waiting from past a month.

Then the sales guy told me that there was another offer on a 7.1 channel receiver with 5.1 speakers package model no: Onkyo TX-SR508 + SKS-HT528 for Rs. 39,990/-.

I demoed the product and it sounded a little better than the 3300, as the sub-woofer was powered with 150w and the speakers were 120 watts per channel. The receiver was 7.1 with almost all features of 3300 + some additional ones like Zone 2 or Surr Back channels, Dolby Prologic IIz & height, 4 hdmi inputs. It even comes with a calibrating mic for measurements.

I was convinced and finally I have purchased the Onkyo TX-SR508 with the speakers package as the receiver is future upgradeable and has 4 HDMI inputs and I can always add 2 surr back speakers for 7.1 in the future.

Guys, have I got a good package or paid more. Any comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Onkyo HT3300 is on offer for 24,999 at bangalore Modernworld and other dealers. This is as per yesterday news paper ad. Just FYI.
Other onkyo products are also on sale. I did see one of the products on offer was what saketb bought. Not sure though, need to check the advt.

I think that's a killer deal!

I am confused between Onkyo HT-5205 and HT-3300...

The only drawback between them is HT-3300 has a passive sub woofer, and also HT-3300 has new Receiver and has HDMI v1.4a support.

Can i replace the sub woofer of ht-5205 i.e. SKW501(active) wid sub woofer of ht-3300 i.e. SKW380(passive)

I can opt for YHT392 (Receiver HTR-6230 n Speaker Package NS-P380)

My budget is around 35k.

Please give u r valuable feedbacks...

Thankz

For a budget of Rs. 35k you can go for HTS 3300 (Rs. 25K) (and buy a Sony Blu Ray player BDP370 for Rs. 10k) as the 3300 has all new features like: HDMI 1.4a, 3D compatible, Audio return channel, Latest HD decoders like Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio for blu ray playback.

Basically this is a future proof model for your needs.

Another model you can check is which I bought TX-SR508 with Speakers SKS-HT528 (active subwoofer). You can read the post by me in this page.

The Onkyo HT-5205 is an old model without the HD decoders.

I had auditioned 5205, and generally liked it. Havent auditioned 3300 though. But I'm thinking of buying a 3300, because of its better reciever. I can always add a sub, or replace the fronts later...

I am about to finalize the Onkyo 3300...last thing in mind is the Sub-woofer is passive...

Can I replace the sub-woofer? if yes pls suggest option ur's options with the budget of 7k-10k...

Ok, guys please help, I also got the same deal as saketb, TX-SR508 with Speakers SKS-HT528 for 40k.
Now, I also have a pair of philips bookshelf speakers (pretty nice ones too), tht will complete the 7.1 set up. Seems like the nicest of deals.
Or should I wait for Denon 1311, and Polk 6750, for around 40ks. I dont wanna exceed the 40ks barrier, as I already have exceeded a lot. Also will the Denon-Polk combination be better? I auditioned it, but Onkyo's sub sounded better than the Polk, but Polk's speakers were better I thought.
However, since onkyo's is a 7.1 AVR, I think that's the most tempting part for me... What say people?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
