onkyo hts 3300

Guys,

IT WORKED!

I don't know what was not right. Hooked up my DVD player via HDMI and turned on the HDMI audio on the DVD player and everything worked magically.

Thanks a ton to all the good souls who took time to help me out.

And morover i have even heard some people on this forum pointing out that the 3300's passive sub outperforms some yamaha active sub . As you have mentioned a 12 ft viewing distance the passive sub will be more than enough, that is unless ur a bass freak and you dont have unfriendly neighbours. TC Cheers!!

But for people like me who have used Z680 and Z5500(for some time), I think it might be a disappointment. I qualify for both of the above points :D

what about my other question
askids said:
I necessarily dont need a pre-out for sub. But is there a audio out option that I can use as input source to the Z680 and couple its sub along with 3300 (as if 2 speaker systems running in parallel)?

Thanks
askids

please send me phone no of this shop where you get it at only rs 23000

I could not make out whether if this question was for me or not. If it was not intended for me, then kindly ignore my post. Anyway I am getting this price in Bangalore.

Got the same issue again. Turned the main power off this morning and the sound is not working in the evening when I turned it on again. I haven't a clue of what's wrong. Any hints, guys?

Hi Crook, I was about to finalize HTS3300, but by then one of my friend came up with another point. He says HTS3300 speakers is only a single unit i.e. the tweeter and woofer are not seperate but in a single unit. This will not give good sound replication. He is asking to go for HTS5300 which seems to have tweeter and woofer seperate (although I am yet to confirm it). What do you think? HTS5300 is not really in my budget, I do not want to unnecessarily extend my budget to buy it...But he is putting me into confusion. My priority is basically to watch movies. I am not that interested in listening to music. Do you feel 3300 is sufficient for my needs?

I personally have auditioned it thrice with different movie discs and found it really impressive (for my novice ears, that is). Will suggest you go and audition it rather than worrying about technical aspects of active passive or woofer/tweeter.

If i am not wrong the speakers can be upgraded without concerns at a later date, whenever your pocket allows. It is only the subwoofer which you cannot change or upgrade to an active one.

I think you are right. I should audition both the models and make a decision.

Does anyone know where in Bangalore I can audition both? I could not find both together in Griha Vaibhava.

Let me point out one thing, the hts3300 is an entry level system ..but a very good one. Its sound clarity has been appreciated by every user. And all agree that the 3300 can perform from small to medium rooms only. As for the tweeter thing, yup the 5300 will sound better and if u keep going the 9100 thx system will perform even better. But it all comes down to what our room size is and what would suffice. Theater sound should blend in and not be overpowering. 12 ft is your viewing distance and I personally wouldn't suggest a 7.1 unless you want to change to a bigger room later. As you have your mind set on onkyo I say go audition them and don't listen to what the tech guy there says.( Remember the 5300 costs more so he will woo u into buying it) Rest up to you. And yeah about stretching your budget: Dont do it bro , get a damn good HT later , you will probably have a dedicated room by then, for now the 3300 will fulfill your movie needs perfectly. TC cheers!

Yup! I will audition both and decide. As you rightly pointed 3300 seems a sensible option for me.

Hello guys,

I am new to this forum. I am planning to buy this onkyo hts -3300 htib , i am currently based in blore, so had been to modern world mg road for a demo. The demo was good. He states the price as 24990, with no free hdmi or optical cable. No stocks till 12th nov.
Please can you people guide me in buying this htib. My use is to explore surround sound from my sony bdp -s370 blu ray player and also watching .mkv movies from my laptop .

Please advice if onkyo hts 3300 would be a better buy for 24990 or less,as this avr is already selling for less than 379$ on amazon..

Many Thank's
das

Hi,

This is my first post here at HFV,though I've been visiting the forums

for couple of months now. First, I would like to thank you guys for

helping me choose my first HTIB (Onkyo HTS3300) through all the

reviews and comments/suggestions posted on this forum.
Being a noob and no audiophile, I'm totally enjoying the experience of

movie-watching in surround sound and enhanced music playback. My

source(s) are humble Amkette Flash tv and Sony DvD player.I think it's

a total VFM HTIB in market at the moment. I have couple of queries

which I hope someone from this knowledgeable group would be able to

answer:

1. Although satisfied so far with the Onkyo, I noticed that the bass is

little boomy at times, especially during movie/music playback in PL II

mode (noticeable in Stereo mode as well). I followed the steps

mentioned here http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater-box/10751-onkyo-hts-3300-a-14.html#post169713and could reduce the boominess to some extent but it did

not vanish completely. Have played with crossover and gain settings of

Sub but reducing it actually reduces the overall thump and bass. My sub

is placed almost at front left corner, as in there's a rack on the left

of the sub where front spkr and cds are placed. So the Sub only has its

back against the wall with the other 3 sides open to space. Please note

that I'm constraint to this position due to furniture placement and can

only move the sub to right side of the receiver, if that would help.

2. Reading thru the forums, it seems the best mode to listed to music

is Stereo. But for tracks like Hotel California (live) or Bombay theme

track wouldn't the other modes like All ch Stereo or PL II make it

sould better? Again, it's just a thought having seen all these modes

availabe in the avr but I could be totally wrong. So, please advice me

as to what should be the optimal listening mode for regular bollywood

mp3s and Pink Floyd Live version tracks, for e.g.

Thanks in adv. for providing your valuable suggestions.

Yippee! :yahoo:

I finally bought the HT-S3300 at 22900/- at Grihavaibhava. Opened the package and installed everything. Everything worked like a clock! Touchwood!

Played Lord of The Rings DVD through HDMI..even though impressed with the sound, I was not fully convinced..Upon investigating I found out that amplifier was using PL II instead of actual Dolby Digital 5.1. I tried various methods but did not work. Later I realized that the DVD player was outputting stereo output on HDMI PCM. I changed the DVD player settings from PCM to bitstream...and voila...everything worked like charm...Lord of the Rings was simply amazing!!!:clapping: :yahoo:

Next I tried my Iomega screenplay director...it also had the same problem, but could not fix it as I found out from manual that it always outputs stereo on HDMI..To get 5.1, I have to connect via optical cable which I currently dont have. So first thing on Monday is to buy this cable and see how Iomega performs...will update once done that...

Thanks everyone for their help...My first home theater :yahoo:

I went and had demo of this unit today morning, while i can vouch for the movie experience, the only thing that is kinda holding me back from buying this is the music playback experience. I felt like i had to tweak the settings here and there for almost every single file i played, i took a mixed bag of collection on my pen drive .... ballads, rock, RnB, hip hop ..etc

We need to keep the sub in control though. it tends to have its own mind at times :D by sounding boomy.... The sad part is that we cant swap the passive sub for an active one... ... Also the unit tends to get a little hot the dealer told me its nothing to worry about but sadly i already made an enclosed cabinet with smoked glass and the receiver if it were to be placed behind will not be visible except for the active displays and the whole thing looks cool with just the black glass and the dot matrix display or the led's glowing through the black glass. if i am buying it then i may have to place it outside i guess one more  .....

Nevertheless on a final note for a price of 25k i guess one cant complain, unless we have some competition from others in the same price range. For the time being i have decided to go and pick up that ps3 i have been wanting for long ... to be paired with my panny v20;)

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. Although I have finalized on purchasing the Onkyo 3300, i am unable to find this model in Dubai, U.A.E. The equivalent model available here is Onkyo 3305. I tried to find reviews for 3305, but could not find much reviews. Tried to find the difference between Onkyo 3300 and 3305 on their website, I found that the AVR is same for both models, but the speaker system is different.
As 3300 is not available here, I am unable to decide whether I should go for 3305. As not much review is available for 3305, anybody here can help with their comments.....
