onkyo hts 3300

Also take note that in their specifications of AVR they have mentioned that 3300 has 120 RMS whereas, the 3305 has 100 RMS.( though both are model HTR 380)

Hi guys,

Can someone pls respond to my query on Boomy sub?

Wanted to share one interesting thing: just out of curiosity, I placed a thick cotton rug under the sub (more so to prevent it from 'travelling') and I feel the boominess has reduced somewhat. Is it possible scientifically/technically or I'm just plain crazy imagining stuff ?

Thanks again!

Everything seems to be working now and I'm delighted with this system (my first HT and am not yet a pro. This sounds better than everything else to me right now) :yahoo:.

Got a couple of questions for the experts to answer :)
1. I have my philips DVD player and my WD TV live player hooked up to the receiver via HDMI and the HDMI out from the receiver to my TV. I was thinking that when I select either of the sources (BD/DVD for my DVD player and Game for my WD TV) the sound via the HDMI is not passed thru to the TV. However, I get sound out of my TV and surround. Am I wrong?

2. I tried a Dolby True HD sample and a DTS-HD MA sample. The Dolby True HD was displayed as is on the AVR but the DTS-HD MA was displayed as DTS 5.1. Is this how it is usually displayed? (I don't have a BD player to test the HD audio - am right now using my WD TV Live to play BD videos)

Thanks for ur answers in advance.

you need to keep tv volume to zero or if there is option select external speakers to avoid sound coming from both tv speakers and onkyo

No it is not, it displays master audio when i try with sony bdp s370,so problem is not with onkyo

After reading the rave reviews on Onkyo HTS 3300 I've decided to get this HTIB. However I would be grateful if the members could help me out in locating a shop in chennai where I can audition and purchase. I did look up Onkyo India website for dealer/showroom address but it would be more helpful if members here could let me know their experience in purchasing the product from a particular shop. I am located in Chennai, T.Nagar.

Thanks

Hi Mathan I am also from Chennai.I Spoke to Onkyo Showroom Chennai they quoted me the price as 25K and that is Non-Negotiable.

There is a Dealer named Audio Gallery in Coimbatore whom i spoke to is Dinesh cool guy said he can give for 23K shipped with free HDMI anb Optical cable.

He will ship in KPN Travels and from KPN Travels we have to take the Delivery.

There is a Group buy happening in our Forum and they are buying from Audio Gallery Coimbatore. Please check that or you can talk to Dinesh directly and get it.

Thanks for the reply Sathish. Currently it is only available in Onkyo showroom in Alwarpet, Chennai. When I called him up he told me that there is difficulty in meeting demand and supply and only few pieces were left with him. It would be great if I can get it at 23k with the freebies. I would however be swiping my credit card for buying it. Not sure how that would work out.

Hello Everyone -

I'm new to the forum and looking for advice on the HTS-3300. I recently installed the system (after completely messing up the "Speaker A" / "Speaker B" setting at first). I seem to be set to go, but have a few questions/comments.

1.) I cannot get the rear right surround sound speaker to work. This concerns me because the left rear is operational, and I hooked up the left rear to the right channel to see if I have a defective speaker and it wasn't the case. Has this occurred elsewhere and does anyone have any recommended fixes?

2.) I'm not savvy enough to really know much about settings and "listening modes." I guess my question is, if I'm watching an HD channel in 5.1, will it automatically play in 5.1? To my knowledge, there isn't a "surround sound" setting per se directly on the unit.

3.) I have an LP turntable with a traditional A/V cable output (red/white). Is there anyway to plug the turntable A/V cable into the stereo to play vinyl? If so, what setting? (AUX doesn't seem to be working).

Thanks in advance. There's a wealth of knowledge around here.

Just to update my previous message:

I can play the turntable through the TV/CD setting. To add to my confusion, the LPs play through every speaker, leaving only the rear right not playing during Blu-Rays through PS3.

Any suggestions?

Again, thanks in advance.

So you connected the left rear speaker to the right rear channel and it worked? If so, then it simply means that the right rear output is working fine. So the only possibility is that your right rear speaker cable is broken or the speaker is broken. To check if the right rear speaker cable or speaker is broken or not connect it to some other channel and see. Tell me the results and we will take it further.

Yes, when the input is a digitally encoded signal (DD, DTS, etc) as mostly in a HD channel, the receiver will automatically detect its type and decode it. But you will have to select manually which option in the receiver is set to which input, otherwise you won't get audio in your speakers. For example, if you have connected the STB box via coaxial cable to the Coaxial (BD/DVD) input in your HT-S3300, then you will have to set it to some option under "Digital Audio". To do this, on the remote Press RECEIVER followed by SETUP. Then go to 3rd option "Digital Audio". Press "Enter". Then select (CBL/SAT) and change that option to "COAX". If there is "COAX" in any of the other option you will have to change it to "-----". Then when you are watching HD channel with DD, DTS, etc audio, you will have to just press "CBL/SAT" under the "REMOTE MODE/INPUT SELECTOR" in remote to get audio.
PS: You can select any other option for "COAX" for example "VCR/DVR" under setup, but then you will have to press "VCR/DVR" under "REMOTE MODE/INPUT SELECTOR" in remote to get audio.

I can play the turntable through the TV/CD setting. To add to my confusion, the LPs play through every speaker,
You get audio from all the speakers because you have the receiver set up to "All Channel Stereo" (All Ch St) by default. If you wish to listen to two speakers for stereo output, you will have to press "STEREO" under "LISTENING MODE" on the remote.
leaving only the rear right not playing during Blu-Rays through PS3.
Is that true for all blu rays that you play? How have you connected the PS3 to the receiver?

Just a (hopefully) final update here:

After browsing through some of the former threads, I took the recommendation and turned "audio out" to OFF in the setup menu, and what would you know, I have audio out of every speaker. FINALLY. I have no idea what this setting does or doesn't do, but for some reason it was inhibiting playback out of one of my speakers.

Thanks for those who responded to my earlier questions about output and my speaker issues. I truly appreciate your time.

Take care.

Hello,

Just purchased my very first HTIB system (S3300), and noticed the following thing/s that may need some clarifications or suggestions or help...

My PS3 sometimes looses audio when I exit from a game, the only time I could regain sound is to go back to the "sound options" of the PS3 XMB, and select HDMI again, then set to automatic...At certain times, I even start a game with no audio at all, I don't know if the PS3 or the S3300 is the problem.

The PS3 is set to Bit stream, and I also noticed that when I play certain PS3 games like DBZ Raging blast 2, the receiver will output the sound as multi-channel PCM...instead of Dolby Digital...

Thanks!

Does anybody notice this, I m quoting from website
Print Page - Onkyo S3300 and The PS3 (WITH FIRMWARE UPDATE on Reply 43)

"May 25th, 2010
A firmware error has been found on some of Onkyos new A/V receivers and home theater systems. When playing back certain Blu-ray Disc and gaming software with 5.1- or 7.1-channel PCM audio content, the left and right channel output is reversed for the surround speakers. This occurs when the HDMI output of the source device (e.g. Blu-ray player) is set to multichannel PCM mode.

Initial production batches of the following models are affected by this issue:
TX-SR308, TX-SR508, HT-S3300, HT-S3305, HT-S5300, and HTX-22HDX.

Please note that no problems occur with a 2.1-channel configuration, or with formats other than multichannel PCM (e.g. Dolby Digital and DTS function normally).

Onkyo is providing a firmware update for each affected model. Owners are requested to contact their local Onkyo distributor.

I called ONKYO official distributor (Toyama Group Center) kasi and they didn't even know about the issue"

Hi Guys
I have a simple query
Onkyo guys provide you with rubber stoppers that need to be hooked to the speakers once you hang them on the wall.

According to them you have to put them on the bottom of the speaker.

Dont you think it should be "back" of the speaker rather then bottom?

Do let me know what you guys think.
