Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Today i got additional 2 year warranty card from Croma. Since they did not have it when i had purchased it on 15th and panasonic sent it now.

I need to mention the Serial number of the TV in the copy that i have to mail to Panasonic. Where can i find it?

I have wall mounted the TV, so its difficult to get it from the back of the TV.

Is it mentioned somewhere on the Carton box of the TV or in any Menu of the TV? Thanks

Serial number is on the box as well. Alpha-numeric size 9.

1. The side wall of the c/b box has several stickers and one of them has the model and serial nos. etc.

2. Did you have to follow up with Croma or did they arrange the extended/additional 2 years wty. card by themselves, kindly elaborate and if you could let us know which city & branch it is that will be great as the store Manager at the Croma store here is quick on matching what other Croma stores do and even exceeding that but left on his own he is a reluctant mover.

3. Manufactyring date is on back of the panel itself. If import is Feb 11 then mfg. would be Jan 11.

As I said, I remember the change going upto -15 also for pure black earlier. I did not keep that setting as I felt the shadow details were not adequate and kept it at -5. The current MLL is similar to my samsung plasma. I did not check it side by side though. I remember the change from samsung to panasonic to be quite sharp when I replaced the TV. Maybe I got used to this or the blacks went down considerably as in -5 to +15.
It is not a drastic change in areas other than black currently. Only if we see a ST30 in night, we can confirm anything.

Will compare with my samsung and post results tonight anyway.
If you get any leads from the service personal or service menu, let me know.

I searched a bit on the service menu options and played a bit with one particular setting. It's the BRT setting under Adjust menu. This setting allows you to do finer control on the brightness the more coarse control in the main picture menu. Also, it allows you to shift the setting point from where the MLL will be reached. For instance, i could shift the starting point of the lowest MLL to +1 instead of +15, but it doesn't result in any lowering of the MLL.

I intend to call up Panasonic and complain about it. Of course, they might say this is the lowest the TV goes, but let's see. Unfortunately, I don't have a reference to show them as comparison. Any ideas on how we can impress upon them that this is not how it should be? The only way I think it could happen is by somehow showing a new VT20 which still shows fantastic blacks as comparison point side by side. Am assuming that a VT20 before the firmware update works fine.

Blasto, if you still have the Samsung and if it shows similar MLL to the VT20, we can maybe point it out to them. Clearly the top of the line VT20 (with 100 hrs of use) is meant to have much much lower MLL than the lowest in the lineup Samsung (with much higher usage) from the same year. I don't know if the Service Technician will buy it though.

Oh yes...i have been following them with ever since i bought the TV. One warranty card came along when TV was delivered. But, it was for LCD/LED panasonic televisions and validity was if we purchase between Jan-11 to Mar-11. I returned it to them.
I kept calling them and they followed it up with Panasonic contact and gave that. This card mentions that its Valid for all Plasma purchases between sep22 to Dec-31.
This was with Banashankari area Croma in Bangalore.

I had gone again to the Chroma showroom where they had a VT20 on a display. It was playing Star Cricket HD, from the moment i entered the showroom till i came back to the TV would have been good 40 odd minutes.....

I asked the sales guy to change channel on the VT20 which he did and to my utter surprise i couldnt see even a faint trace of IR...... i also asked him to switch off the television.... post which no IR.........this just boggles my mind as how do they do it ???

Star cricket HD is a sticky logo....which meant that the logo stays during breaks as well but still.........NO IR....

can any forum members help me decode this plsss

Next time ask him to turn-off the lights in showroom or make it dark if it is daylight.;)

Mate, they are so well lit up that it dont matter whether its day or night outside....anyways i dont think that IR can be seen only in complete darkness...panel switched off or white/light colour screen is good enough to spot it if it exists...i couldnt spot one thats the suprising fact..

I am not even factoring in the abuse the showroom guys who have unleashed on the panel.....i am just measuring on basis of an hours time till when i was there and that times good enough to have an IR with a static bright logo....which most of the owners have complained in our or other forums....

Like Kittu said, you need to turn down the lights to be able to really notice IR.

When most us talk about IR we are doing so in a relatively dark environment if not a completely dark one.

Also, the showroom guys usually have the unit set to Dynamic Mode which is way to bright for you to be able to spot IR.

Trust me it's there and it'll be nasty when you turn the lights down.

You might want to check this thread www.hifivision.com/home-theater-pc-htpc-media-pc/21492-laptop-3d-hd-player.html
Additionaly check messages from satan on this thread itself about PS3 media server. It works well for mkvs. From what I have learnt till now your content must be SBS amd you should manually configure it that way in TV (usually after you start playing the video).

I have no idea about PS3.

On flashdrive, if content is in Divx HD / DIvX format , again SBS, then yes. No mkvs. For SBS mkvs PS3 media servier works well.

many thanks for this post. i hadn't bothered to check my warranty card till i saw this post, as i assumed that the panasonic warranty was 3years for all tvs. i saw my card and found it saying this certificate entitles you to 1 year warranty.
shall pursue this matter tomorrow.

can you please scan your 2year additional warranty and post it so that it will be easy or all others to pursue the matter right upto panasonic if necessary
