Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

can you please scan your 2year additional warranty and post it so that it will be easy or all others to pursue the matter right upto panasonic if necessary

See attachment. First part is customer copy and the other needs to be sent to Panasonic after filling in details. Note that it mentions "Valid on all Plasma purchases" and below it has date of validity

I have not got the 2 year warrenty card from panasonic.
The bill from Croma however has it mentioned as one of the line items and the manager told that it is enough. Should I go ahead and ask again?

Hi blasto, if the bill mentions the same than it is more than enough....probably what u can do is ...call the pana sustomer care and get the same confirmed.

I was handed over a similar warranty card by Croma guys i.e. 2 + 1 valid on plasma purchase. In hurry i filled it and sent it to Panansonic.....Now after looking it at in detail it seems the card had a validity date of all purchases made between 1st December 2010 and 31st March 2011......cant believe Croma guys would do this.....I am gonna be visiting their shop soon and take this up with the Store manager and get a new warranty card.....

Got the scratch card from croma and won nothing!
Also enquired about extended warranry card and got it. It is similar to the one posted above but its wrong one for me as its meant for lcd/led. Will have to visit croma jokers once again!

Did dark room comparison between my samsung and VT20 plasmas with a black wallpaper (ms paint image with black fill) just now. (Different rooms though)
Same WDTV player with same material in both cases.

Blacks do not compare at all. It is surprising how much we get used to these and set the reference. Iam sorry to have caused confusion. The Samsung plasma is much more greyer.

Actual content:

Skin colours/colour reproduction and SD are still better in samsung.
B450 does not have the background/forground seperated properly though. The Depth perception is also bad. The naked eye 3D effect we get in 2D films with VT20 was missing in the B450. (Iam not talking about the 3D content here. Iam talking about 2D depth if you know what I mean).
Blacks are also a different league in the VT20. Details is miles ahead (B450 is only 720p and it is kind of expected)

The above observation is on seeing the samsung B450 after 2 weeks of getting used to watching the VT20.

To give you perspective of black change I was mentioning earlier, do the below.

Keep the TV in PC mode or display a black image and enter the service menu.
In service menu, press 1 two times to select the white-balance adjustment, the TV loses some black in this section due to some post processing.
From this point, if you move back and forth using 1 & 2 keys, you can see the difference.

This is the amount change I was talking about. It may matter to you or it may not.

Blasto, can you also do the below 2 tests and let me know the results?

1. PC connection through DVI to HDMI adapter. Do you see scaling done or is it able to map 1:1 pixels without unnatural coloration?

2. Interlaced film content like we get in Asli HD channels, do you see judders (after turning off IFC, etc)?

Already done.

I dont see scaling artifacts. But not sure if it is 1:1. The TV correctly mentions 1080p 50Hz.
BTW, the above is via direct HDMI out of laptop. I dont have DVI.

2. Interlaced film content like we get in Asli HD channels, do you see judders (after turning off IFC, etc)?

Yes. There is judder in horizontal pan scenes. (Like in camera panning accross round table conference etc). Absolutely none in vertical scroll (Film credits). Very very minor/negligible in horizontal scroll (News strips).

There was no Pan issue in my samsung but it had more pronounced scroll issues (both horizontal/vertical - more so in horizontal)

There is no motions issues at all with 1080p 60Hz content through WDTV. All motion issues are in 50Hz content only.

Hi folks, joined the 50 VT20 league. The panny arrived on 21st. Exploring and appreciation of the unit has been going on with a few frowns of course. Now that I have made the decision I have to like it and so will I! It is family. BTW I am no exception to the scrath card joke! Happy Diwali!
