Edit: Logitech replaced my faulty harmony 525 with 700. It costs 2.5 times.
VT30 costs the same as VT20 was last year.

In reality , I think they will just refund the money after few months of hard fight. 50VT30 sounds too unreal.

Hehe, Saaar trust me, it will work the same way in India. However, I agree that they might instead offer to refund full amount if they can't arrange a comparable model. However, its for sure ST30 is certainly not a comparable model for replacement. So unless Customer wishes to settle for ST30, they will most certainly have to offer VT30 or later or a refund.

actually we cant really foresee what panasonic will do. has anybody completely
read the terms of warranty. i havent yet got mine so i dont know.

usually the company says it will repair or replace. so if it cant repair it it will have to replace it with an equivalent product, so vt20d will have to be replaced by vt30d. of course the company will most probably try to replace it with an inferior model say st30d or offer the vt30d if u r willing to pay some money. but legally it has to supply vt30d.
the problem in india till date has been the lack of consumer awareness and even with the avaialbility of the consumer forums companies still try to dishonour their warranties. but if we can make sufficient noise and some public nuisance, they will come to heel very fast

The above is the one Iam talking about.. Should available for ~1000 locally.. Get it and do the below..

1) Configure it in Wireless repeater mode. In this mode, it connects to your primary wireless router wirelessly and makes it available through the 4 ethernet ports it has. (It asks for password to connect to your network same as your laptop)

2) Place it near your TV and connect the ethernet port of the TV to one of the ethernet ports of the router.

3) Connect other ethernet ports to other entertainment devices which requires internt (WDTV live/Bluray Player/Torrent Client etc)

So final connection will be,

Internet Ethernet wire --> Your primary wireless router (existing) --> )))Wireless))) --> Repeater near TV (wireless router no 2) --> Ethernet connection to all your entertainment devices.

If you configure the repeater to do wireless repeating, the throughput will be decreased by half. But since you are connecting the repeater to ethernet ports, there will be full throughput.. Hope it helps..

Is it just selecting the repeater mode, or do you have to do other stuff like disbale DHCP, change IP address from the regular 192.168.1.1? Also wanted to know if it would work with any brand of routers (functioning as the primary unit) which in my case is DLink.

It is not possible.
You will have to download the video and play using DLNA/SD card or USB.

well, if the warranty agreement states equivalent series model, that's that.it is upto the customer to stand up and push the firm to fulfill the agreement. applies everywhere. the only reason why you see firms less reluctant in some countries because they know that the court will rule in favour of the smaller party in case of inequal party contract . But even in india, if the customer decides to see things done in a fair manner, things work out well, without needing to visit a lawyer. It's improving gradually and I'm hoping it will eventually reach uk/us standards.

the only thing for us vt20 owners is to pray once everyday while powering the tv on that they launch a 50/58 vt30/vt40/vt50 in india in a timely manner

You should normally have to disable DHCP for the repeater to work correctly.

I have a netgear router. I have also configured a dhcp network for my home using it.
So my configuration in repeater mode of the buffallo router is DHCP. Further you need to provide ssid and password for the repeater to connect to.

Configurations are same as your laptop. DHCP settings, ssid selection (ie your network name from list) and password as just about the settings required.

Repeater mode follow WDS protocol. It is independent of the devices used.

Having said that, I have used internet for firmware upgrade and to access very limited contents. Not worth the time, money and effort in trying to bring the TV online. Contents are very scarce.

If you want to add your TV to your existing network with WDTV live or NAS and such, its worthwhile but just for connecting the TV to the net, you should pass.

And for that you certainly need a N capable Wifi network for effective playing of HD material (especially 1080p). How is the speed of Buffalo in that regards?

I just got my V20 networked. Now, when I get onto Viera cast, it connects to the server and says that a software upgrade is required. Then it connects to the server and tells me that the current software version is 5.400 and new software version is 5.606 and that I need to download the newer version.. However, when I try to download the newer version, it is stuck at 0% for sometime, and then gives a message "software update is not completed, because the server is crowded now." Anybody else has had the same issue??

My internet speed is not great, but not that a download would just fail. I have tried upgrading it 4 times now.
