Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

The panasonic installation guy had told me to use colin .. i had some finger impressions which were very visible when the panel was switched off.

You may do this sometimes only.

1.Dust the panel using a tissue very very gently .. to prevent any scratches
2.Spray colin on a tissue paper and wipe the panel
3.And then use a dry tissue to clean the panel.

DO NOT SPRAY COLIN DIRECTLY ON THE PANEL !!

dear friends, how to clean the stains on vt20 panel? with damp cloth?

IMHO paper is the best option to clean any glass .....hence pls use tissues (Domino's in my case ;)).....damp them slightly if you have tough stains....worked for my VT20

From my last experience learnt that one should use good quality tissues ... mostly facial tissues .. the normal ones tend to tear and stick on to the glass surface.

As Kittu suggested, a clean (or recently washed) microfiber cloth is the best option. Tissue papers leave a lot of lint and can be scratch prone on soft surface like the glossy bezel. Its very tough to scratch a glass though :)

I recently acquired this amazing TV. Have done 125 hours of break-in using slides (no other content) recommended by D-Nice. It took me a little less than 5 days due to three instances of power failure. Still on the old firmware. Will attempt firmware update and calibration after reaching 200 hours (will use satan's procedure for the remaining 75 hours). Have not noticed any IR etc.

Made a backup of factory settings using the procedure mentioned below. The only variation is that I copied the data to my HDD and put the SD card back in my compact camera for use. Will make another backup after firmware update and then attempt calibration.

Panasonic has provided a means to back up all of the factory
settings to an SD card, which can then be restored from the SD card
back to the TV. Its intent is to provide a means for techs to
backup/restore the factory settings when a a board swap is
performed without having to go through the complete alignment
process. However, it would appear to be a good way to preserve
the original factory setup of your TV as a backup in case your
Service Menu adventures go awry.

Creating the backup is quite a simple procedure:

* Place a properly formatted blank SD card into your PC's
SD slot.
* Right click an open area in the SD card's file manager
window, hover your mouse over "New" in the context menu, then
select "Text Document" from the flyout menu. A new blank text
document will be created with the default name of "New Text
Document.txt"
* Rename the new text document "boardreplace.pwd". This
should be the one and only file on the SD Card.
* Turn on your TV
* Insert the SD card with the new file into the TV's
SD card slot
* The TV will automatically open an on-screen display
for the procedure.
* When prompted, enter the password "2770" using the
remote control
* The TV's configuration data will automatically be
copied to the SD card.
* At the completion of the procedure, turn off the TV
and then remove the card.
* Store the SD card in a safe place and hope you never
need it.

If the backup is ever required, you can restore the backup
to the TV by inserting the same SD Card back into the TV...
but when prompted for a password, use "2771" to initiate a restore.

Now that I have received the VT20, I am doing the break in. Running the slides continuously even when I am not at home and before running the slides, I put the plasma on teh TV mode without the RF connection and the settings provided by Satan, so that even if there is power failure and TV restarts, it goes into the Tv mode with the black and white dots coming up.

Now the next question, where I need suggestions are:
1. Airtel HD or Tata Sky HD? I also need PVR capability. In one of the reviews I read that VT20 itself has recording to external HDD capability, but I believe that is not available on the INdian version, wanted to reconfirm.

2. Which blu-ray player? I found the 3d blu-ray players cost to be similar to a PlayStation3, which is capable of playing 3d blu-ray. So does it make to go with a PS3 rather than dedicated blu-ray player or am I missing something. Please note: I dont intend to use the player for playing VCD.

Thanks in advance.

Mate, IMO Airtel, after reading a lot of posts in the forum i think its the best for HD channels and SD quality is also better then other SPs. I had got the Tata Sky HD PVR in the scheme which got installed but am gonna swap it with a friend whos already has TATA Sky and is wanting to upgrade to HD (hes bougt a Sony 42" LED and got an Airtel HD connection free)......

Regards to the blu ray player i would strogly recommend Oppo BDP- 93 if you can source it from US.....or else simply go for PS3 as it makes sense....not only do you get the BDP but also a 320 GB storage space for games, etc...

@illusion heart: Why do you suggest the Oppo BDP 93. Is it that the A/V quality is much superior, or are there some additional features which makes is your number 1 suggestion?

Microfiber cloth and distilled water (available with battery service centres) is the best cleaning method in my opinion. Start with a blower to remove dust particles, so that these dont scratch the surface when you begin the wiping procedure. Pour some water on the cloth and then begin cleaning in one direction (say top to bottom) starting from one end and keep going till you reach the other. Dont apply pressure on the screen and keep changing the contact surface of the cloth after a couple of wipes (or after each wipe if the screen has a lot of muck). Once this is done, use a dry microfiber cloth to remove the dampness- again in the same direction. Thats it. Of course, make sure the screen has no chance to turn on while you are cleaning.

Use some microfiber cloth.Do not use any sort of liquid.

In the manual it says, use 1% neutral detergent with water or just water on smooth cloth and wipe. immediately use dry smooth cloth and wipe off gently.
So i used plain water with a small hint of handwash liquid( very minute and negligeble) on cotton and rubbed it on the stains. immediately used facial dry tissue paper and wiped it off. Worked fine:clapping:. No issues at all. And no harm on my anti reflective coat stiil i guess:o

And one more important thing while cleaning is that not to use liquid when the panel is hot. Let it cool down before cleaning it with liquid.:ohyeah:

Mate its not only a Blu ray but a Universal player, 3D capable, excellent load time , etc, etc....it has been rated highly by almost all videoholics...Just google and read any of the reviews....

Distilled water sold at battery shops & fuel vends is meant for use in batteries and is suitably spiked with certain percentage of acid.

Alcohol is safe as is nail polish remover. Do not use flavoured Vodka though.

Use some clear vodka , preferably greygoose or belvedere brands .;)

Best would be to use either the screen wipes meant to clean all tv/laptop/pc screens or one could use the wet wipes meant for spectacle lenses.

I am planning to secure my wifi connection, will this conflict with the connection to my TV, if yes what are the settings that i should configure for wireless connection.

I am currently using netgear for wireless connection on the TV

Thanks

You just need to reconfigure it on the TV as per your secured settings. You need to check if those protocols are available on the TV (like WPA/WPA2 protocol with AES, etc as hashing algorithm).
