Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

3) Installed PS3 Server on system but it says un-supported format on TV so no luck here too.

PS3 server will make available the file in various formats.
Browse to the file you want to play and there will be a folder named "transcode" (or similar). Within this folder there are multiple listings each with different format.
Have you tried playing with these different formats? One of them surely worked for me when I tired 5-10 files.

probably I missed some thing, it only show one file with .mkv

ps3 media server needs some good cpu and graphics card. also dont forget that it works well on lan than on wifi. I have i7 , nvidia 540m , still on the fly conversion takes some time

I played Uncharted 3 yesterday for a couple of hours.. it looked fantastic for the most part but I faced a couple of issues.
- In image parts with high contrast white borders, say edges of a metallic gate, there was clear shimmering. I thought as the game is fed to the TV in progressive format at 60 Hz, there shouldn't be any de-interlacing related artifacts. I did have the motion interpolation on so don't know if that's causing it.
- The 3D sync using the old glasses (which come packaged with the TV) kept dropping every few seconds. Moving my head down a bit got the sync back on but it was still erratic. I sit right in front of the TV at around 8 ft distance with my eyes at the same level as the TV's center. For the glasses to work perfectly should they be at a lower level vertically? The new glasses work perfectly without any sync issues.

Has anybody tried ps3 gaming on the VT20? Any suggestions or explanations to this?

I am buying a 3D full hd media player for my P50VT20D. I am considering these brands: Himedia, Kaiboer, GIEC and Egreat. There are some other too, but then local feedback about them are not so good. Himedia is regarded as best in China & so very expensive @ 12.5K, while GIEC is available for 8.7K & Kaiboer & Egreat both are in range of 7.2K. All these 3 brands are also good, & specs same in all these 4 players. Chipset is common RTD1186 solely meant for 3D, & can play all kind of 3D. I ll update you guys about the performance of these by next week. I think I ll go either for Kaiboer or Egreat. Anyone has any experience before? One of my friend had purchased GIEC 1080p player (without 3d) some 3 months back & he says its amazing. But I dont like the look of its 3D counterpart.

Most 1186DD chipset players are above 10k if you are buying in India. The build quality is much better in egreat players compared to himedia . Himedia on other side is very active in releasing new firmwares and fixing bugs. There is another andriod based 3d media player from bluetimes(transinnovators , India dealer). All of these players can only play top to bottom, sbs 3d content , which even entry level wd tv can play. It will be worth to invest such money only when these players can play frame sequential 3d. Again, wd tv has its bad reputation for not releasing new firmwares and can not decode all hd audio formats(Experts can correct me here).

Dear all

Please help as i want to buy a TV and i am confused very much Whether to buy LED or Plasma as many told me that plasma is outdated. My budget is 50-55k please to suggest me.
I was also told that panasonic is also good but some told that X series does not have neo pdp panels so not to buy. Please also let me know which model is with neo pdp panels in my range of 50-55k
IF plasma not good then please suggest me which LEd i have to buy in my range.

yes if u want to just use it for local network, isp speed doesnt matter.

but you would better use a dual band router2.4 & 5.ghz. so that the 2.4 can be used for internet and the 5 for intranet. also u will get better quality streaming with the 5ghz band

I don't understand the logic you are trying to bring here, you cant use separate band for Internet and Intranet AFAIK as its Layer 2 and routing happens at Layer 3 only.

Get a WDTV live for 5k.
LG BR players are also available at times around 5k which can play most of the formats, so that could also be a good idea. Also, Samsung's D5100 BR player should be available to us for around 4.5k which should be very good for media player functionality.

My advice is to stay away from LED TVs. Even a 42X30 without NeoPDP can perform better (especially motion resolution and overall PQ) than any Full HD LED!

You could go for a 42V20 if it is available for around 35k. 50V20 could also be available around 63k if you could stretch your budget.

I have just received a email from Panasonic service that my TV or panel (not clear yet) will be replaced for 2 dead subpixels!

All those who bought their 50VT20D PDPs from Croma in EOK Delhi can collect their second 3D glass pair from the store. These are now available and the store guys have been calling all relavent customers for the same or so they claim.

Re: advantages of dual band routers

dual-band routers offer several important benefits.

Faster File Sharing and Streaming
According Samara Lynn, a writer for PCmag.com, a dual-band (i.e., 2.4- and 5-GHz) router facilitates faster throughput (communication) for demanding tasks such as sharing files and streaming video within a network. Single band routers do not offer the 5-GHz band, which information technology experts such as Lynn argue is the most efficient for sharing and streaming large media files and gaming.

Separate Internet Tasks
A dual-band router enables the user to separate high band width tasks such as streaming high definition movies and other media from checking email and browsing the Internet. The user can efficiently browse the Internet on the 2.4-GHz band, while simultaneously streaming media on the 5-GHz band.

Prevent Interference with Other Networks
According to Becky Waring, of PCworld.com, switching to a dual band router with a 5-GHz option could help with interference problems. By connecting your devices through the 5-GHz band you can avoid interference from neighboring Wi-Fi networks. Tim Higgins, of Smallnetbuilder.com, also points out that the "5-GHz band also has more non-overlapping channels than 2.4 GHz." This means that you have a higher chance of "finding a channel that doesn't interfere with neighboring networks."

Prevent Interference with Home Appliances
Tim Higgins also points out that small home appliances, "including some cordless phones, intercoms, baby monitors and microwave ovens" also run on the 2.4-GHz band. He argues that "the more of these devices that are in range of your wireless network, the lower and less consistent your speed will be." This means that if your network is in a really crowded area, such as an apartment building, the signals from other devices could cause your signal to drop or decrease in speed if you have a router with only the 2.4-GHz band.

I still fail to understand how a WLAN card will differentiate traffic over a particular band. I do understand 2.4GHz could be less effective as you pointed out. However, I still dont understand how we will use 5GHz for LAN traffic.

I know this is OT, however scratching my head on how this can function, do WLAN cards need to have specific settings for this to work?

Mate, kindly also check the validity of the warranty card before you take it. Mine was for 3 years , plasma TV, but the duration mentioned on the warranty card was- Valid for all purchases upto 31st March.

I had called up the store guy and he told me that i need not worry because Croma bill itself will act as a warranty card.....dont quite believe them and lot of things can change in 3years hence when i go there next time (as scratch card has not yet been delivered to me) i am gonna take it up with the store manager

What do you mean by "EOK"? East of Kailash? Was second pair promised for all and is it mentioned on the invoice?
