Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Hot Damn!
Blast you Blasto, first Satan & now you. Both of you are doing your utmost to dissolve my resolve :p

That screen shot of the scene from Nat Geo, especially the close up of the bird's eye is phenomenally clear and detailed. I wonder how much better it would be live, compared to watching it on my mac's screen.

Update:

SD looks much much worse than my samsung B450 in the 'uncaliberated' TV. A combination of 1080p vs 720p, natural vs vivid colours, 42' vs 50', ok picture processing vs good picture processing results in this. Will have to do extensive caliberation after breakin.

Soooo many caliberation options.. Needs a learning curve.

Did Satan's settings HD looks like SD in CRT. :ohyeah: Reverted back.. I cannot watch it one day having had a plasma for 1.5 years now..

Watch SD channels like MAA TV , MAA MUSIC , TV9 , MTV, V and 9XM. Let us know how bad SD looks?

Hi BLASTO,

please post some pics with SD content.

I haven't still got the SD pictures right. Needs calineration. The faces show a green hue. Not as close to human colours as I experienced in my samsung plasma.

Will post pictures during the weekend.

Those aren't calibrated settings!

I've clearly said that it's to break-in your Plasma only. You'll have to calibrate it once you are done with your break-in period.

And seriously, it's not that bad. Kittu & I are using the same settings and we love it. In fact somebody else here tried them as well and preferred it to the THX mode.

Those settings come highly recommended by someone big in the AV business. Kittu can probably throw more light on this matter.

I have kept my samsung plasma side by side and caliberated the VT20 as close to the PQ I got in the samsung..

Do this and let me know what you feel.. This is the default in the samsung for HD. But widely away from normal setting in the panasonic.

Note: Looks artificial but likeable.. Not for dark room (has lesser black level as samsung plasma) for normal room with tube light..

Checkout.

Mode Professional 1
contrast 75
brightness +8
Colour 75
Sharpness 60
Tint -15 (Yes!!)
Eco-off
PNR - off

For SD, I have not been able to get the same PQ as my samsung so far..

P.S: The above setting is not for prolonged usage before break-in.

For those of you that would like to do some DLNA Media Streaming using your computer and your VT20 (via the Ethernet port), here is a quick guide.

Regarding settings for sd, i have used satans settings but with sharpness to 25. This is the best settings with i could watch sd content. Increasing colour and contrast will give more washoud pictures for sd. low colour with low contrast is best suited for sd content to me. checked out with all pic modes for sd, but dint work out. pls everybody share best pic setting for sd content that you are satisfied with.

Iam seeing the exact same issue in low quality sources. Green or Yellow cast on the human skin colours.
http://www.hifivision.com/television/19307-green-cast-issue-panasonic-viera-v20.html

My WDTV which is set to output 1080p/60Hz does not have this problem for HD movies >4GB.

Channels through Airtel HD, both HD and SD have this problem problem to an extent. More so with the SD.

Coming from samsung plasma, really miss the human skin colours it was able to create for ALL sources. My wife identified this issue today.

There is overall a blue deficiency which causes this problem.

Setting tint to -10 and below solves the issue to an extent. Advanced caliberation on white balance (reduction of red and green) required along with the above setting to reduce the issue to negligible amounts but it still persists in some scenes. One of the professional modes will only help.

Why would panasonic excel in so many areas and screw up in this main criteria is beyond me. Samsung color reproduction is overall better albeit artificial.

Experience of a lifetime..

This TV is 'BLACK'..

VT20 Screen Burn Issues - Watch Out!

BTW, did you guys know that the Pixel Orbiter / Pixel Shifter / Auto Pixel Rotation fuction isn't available on the VT20?

From what I am reading, it might be present on the VT25 but certainly not on the VT20.

Considering that this is the top of the line model of Panasonic's 2010 line-up, shouldn't it's presence have been mandatory?

Even the GT25 series has this feature!
