Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Hi All,
Need some advice on the 50VT20. I am on the lookout for a new tv and considered various plasmas/ and leds. My viewing distance would be approx 8 ft. I was not looking to go for a 50 inch tv, but got intrigued by all the reviews and also the latest deals.
My viewing is 1)Movies (50) + tata sky HD/SD (50%).
-Would this be too big for my room , especially on the SD channels from tata sky? I know the distance calculations ..but was wondering if the SD channels would appear really crappy...Unfortunately I couldn;t get a demo for this.

did anyone here said he bought Panny 50VT20 @ 75k? i bought it for 159k in mumbai exactly a year back. now its broke (fell off the wall)

SD looked crappy on all TVs >= 46" at this distance. This is my personal experience from demos in showrooms. With increased distance some will do better than others but at 8ft none will be better.

Yep, it's a stock clearance of an End-of-Life product, hence the 50% reduction in price. This is the second case I'm hearing about this TV falling off the wall. Makes me nervous about wall mounting it! Can you elaborate on how it came off the wall?

it was mounted on a POP wall and the screws used were a bit small (1.5 inch) if u hav'nt done 200 hrs on it be carefull about IR =) burn-in

Sorry to hear about the TV. Was the installation done by Panasonic?

If you could post some pictures of the mishap, it will be of help to member on how not to mount a TV.

SD will look crappy at 8ft. No doubt.
Go to panasonic showroom in kukatpalli after calling them.
They had ST30 for demo last month for demo. VT20 is almost similar, a little better.

s_sachin is using his 50VT20 in his 10*10 room and is happy. ask him.

If you mount around 26-30 inches , 10 feet is ok. But SD content is a bit too stretchy , kinda gets annoying.. But hey you can always move or buy a new house for TV..

I'd say for first 200 hours you can try the settings below and run break-in slides 5-6 times for total 200 hours.

Mode: Professional1
Contrast 36
Brightness: 0
Colour: 30
Sharpness: 0
Vivid colours Off
Eco-format Off
P-NR Off
Intelligent Frame Creation On/Off (doesnt matter)
16:9 overscan Off
R-gain +1
G-gain -2
B-gain +4
R-cutoff 0
G-cutoff 0
B-cutoff +2

I really liked the pq of these settings. BTW what is 16:9 overscan. And what does off or on for this have an impact. And any settings to remove the greenish tint in sd content? suggestions pls

Hi,

In my quest to own a HDTV I have been thru various iterations over the past 2 years ... my journey has taken me to various panels from LCD-LED-PLASMA ... Finally after a long long search (which i enjoyed though)... I found my nirvana in 50VT20.

I purchased the VT yesterday .. and have put it thru the breaking in process by using the slides for 8 days (~200 Hrs continous )

I will post the results of the process once I am thru the process.

Rgds,

I've read several cases of people running into some stubborn IR due to not nursing their unit properly. In case any of you have similar issues, you can use an "Anti-IR scrolling White Bar" which is in the Service Menu.

1) Hold the -V on the TV side panel and press "Recall" three times until you see the start adjustment menu come on the screen.

2) Press the "RED" button on your remote repeatedly and you will cycle through several screens, one of which is a scrolling white bar designed to remove any IR. You can leave it on for as long as you want.

3) Once you are done with it, press the "EXIT" button to return back to your Input Source. You might have to HOLD the EXIT button to get out of the service menu.

For those of you that would like to game, pleae use the GAME picture profile while gaming. Apparently this mode turns on the pixel shifting feature of the TV since it is not directly accessible to VT20 owners. You can reduce the contrast and brightness in this profile during your break-in period.

Another good post about your first 200 hours with a Plasma

congrads som1...please share the details of price, dealer and freebies u got with this offer

There are several threads that are currently discussing everything you have asked for inclduing one that is specifically for the VT20.

This thread is only for owners to discuss various issues / features of this TV. Everybody, please refrain from spilling the price talk into this thread. It just makes it that much harder for us to find information.

BTW, how come this forum doesn't allow editing any of your older posts. I'd like to create an FAQ in the first post for newbies, but can't since i'm not allowed to edit the first post. Strange!

I have a small doubt ... Its been 12 hours i had kept my TV "ON" for the breaking in process.

When i came home and saw the whole unit and its surrounding areas were really very warm and the TV HOT ...

Is it advisable to keep the TV "ON" for so long hours .. considering i have I planning to keep it ON for the whole 150-200 hours ..

As of now i have since last half hour switched it OFF :)

The resumption of my process will depend on YOUR answer :))

rgds,
Som

Did you run the slides for 12 hours ?

Did you keep the tv too close to the wall ?

My tv is on about 7-8 hours daily , before turning it off I check the back of the panel and no heat noticed.
