Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Removing the Green/Yellow cast issue.

You will need both professional1 and professional2 modes for this.

Before you start:

1) Go to a HD channel which focuses on people. StarPlus HD running saas bahu serial for example.
2) Go to both prof1 and prof2 modes, scroll down to the last and select "restore to default".
3) Go to advanced settings in both prof1 and prof2 and verify if everything is in the middle for white balance, colour settings and gamma is at 2.2.

Procedure:

At this point, both prof1 and prof2 should be same in PQ. We are gonna keep prof 2 reference only to see where we started and where we ended up.

4) Go to prof1->advanced settings->white balance.
5) Reduce the below to the left most possible from the middle (Suppress your instinct that it is bad) ;)

R-Gain, G-Gain, R-Cutoff, G-Cutoff => Everything to left most without mercy.

6) At this point, you will be greeted by the purest white with blue tint like in the LEDs
7) Just increase all the above by 3 points at a time and check out the skin colour. (For me it worked out in first attempt)
So my setting for R-Gain, G-Gain, R-Cutoff, G-Cutoff everything is just 3 points from the left.
You might like something between 3 and 6.

8) Go to gamma settings and select S-Curve
9) Go to main menu and select

Colour => 45 (up from 36 in first post to compensate)
Brightness => -5

Now switch between prof1 and prof2(reference) and see the magic.
You will notice very clear difference in presentation of colours in areas other than face also. Whenever you have a doubt, compare with the prof2.

Now change to a SD channel and check the overall quality.
Except for the upscaling defects, the PQ looks much better.
Later you can thank me.. ;)

Hi everyone congrats all owners of 50VT20D.. before switching on my TV i have couple of questions? my place has got slight voltage problem, so i did went to the stabilizer thread and came to know about Vertex company stabilizer specially made for audio equipments. price for 1kva is about 10,500/- so is it really necessary to go for it ?? r should i go for normal regular v-guard domestic stabilizer?? bec i have exceeded my budget by buying this tv any suggestion? thanks...

Yeah its me.. It still makes me nauseous after 15 mins. :(
You have any treatment for that?? ;) Is it normal??
probably claustrophobic or something..do you have nausea and vertigo in closed spaces or at heights also?
If not, than no need to worry..just stay away from 3D...(but you just bought best 3D TV...!!!:clapping::ohyeah::yahoo::lol:

I'd say for first 200 hours you can try the settings below and run break-in slides 5-6 times for total 200 hours.

Mode: Professional1
Contrast 36
Brightness: 0
Colour: 30
Sharpness: 0
Vivid colours Off
Eco-format Off
P-NR Off
Intelligent Frame Creation On/Off (doesnt matter)
16:9 overscan Off
R-gain +1
G-gain -2
B-gain +4
R-cutoff 0
G-cutoff 0
B-cutoff +2
I like these settings too..SD looks much more natural and colours are also very well reproduced..
I have tried your settings also Blasto but it looked wash outed..even my wife noticed a significant difference..It looks more refined now..
will try your recent settings and let you know..

Tell me one thing why doesnt Panasonic or for that matter a manufacturer do the "breaking in " and gives to us ??

And if the manufacturers are aware of this thing then why are these things not mentioned in the manual ??

may be a noob question ...

Because u will then have to pay like 800K for the TV, just try to imagine the cost to panasonic of running their plant for like 100hrs minimum .

also 90% of the buyers are not going to be affected by this issue, what ever they do.

imagine an average customer looking at the LCDs & Plasmas in a showromm, for deciding on which one to buy. now imagine what ur reaction would be if the salesperson told u , u can straight away start using the LCD TV but if u buy the Plasma u will have to submit it to a 200 hr. Burning in process which would involve BLAH...BLAH.

do u really think there would be any more companies left making a Plasma ?

Bingo! I wonder how many people actually even know the repercussions of not following the burn-in process?! For e.g., to the average customer who has picked up a plasma (as against an LCD) on a basis of a 20 minute showroom demo, a 200 hour procedure may sound completely irrational. I mean, its like a half-finished product delivered home, without much clarity on what needs to be done to get it ready for "real" use.

I hope one of our experts posts a FAQ for plasma burn-in for dummies ;)

A quick question. Does the panasonic installation person brings the stand or is it provided by dealer?

Table top stand will be in the box and wall mount comes separate, both should have been delivered as a set. Atleast thats how we all got it.

Croma has screwed up! did not deliver the wall mount to me.

Please do not call it a stand. Installers can bring the wall mount along with them . No issues, better phone your salesguy and confirm.

The installer had already come home. He said dealer should have provided you the wall mount. So for now I have mounted on the stand provided.
Usage 40min switched on off for 5 times which matches to what I have been using it for.

I've been running slides in D-Nice's torch mode. Have completed about 14 hrs.

Got tempted last night into viewing some content on it (Twonky Server through DLNA) and found out that the VT20 doesn't support MKVs. Was mighty upset as that's the container format for most HD and 3D files these days. Research led to discovery of a little utilty called TSMuxer. Used it to convert one of my 3D MKVs to .TS format (in less than a minute for a fairly large file) and it played back just fine.

For those of you who (like me) don't have a WDTV or any other media player, TSMuxer is a fantastic utility.

On a sidenote, the 3D looks good - smooth and clean, though, of course, dimmer than my passive LW5700.

Got the TV wall mount from croma. Will have to get the wall mount installation done later. For now its on the stand. One advantage of mouting it on table stand is that it can be swiveled to avoid reflections.

I am not running any slides. Have directly stared watching in zoom3 mode. Almost all channel logos and tata sky logo disappears in that mode. Some SD channels are suffering a lot due to this. Will try other settings posted here tonight.

Congrats and thanks blasto, YOU HAVE JUST CONVERTED MY PLASMA INTO A LED TV. :clapping: Wow colours now look just like led tvs with plasma smoothness. BTW i have kept the cutoffs and gains at 6 from extreme left with colour and contrast settings. Just shown the pq in various modes to my family. They are liking this settings now. Where did you discover this settings. I think everybody must try it out on this:yahoo:

Dont worry Its a small goof-up .. my croma experience says they are very methodical ... as any retail chain wud be .. so just call them up and bring this point to their notice... don worry at all ...

Honestly, you should see some Samsung plasmas in home conditions for the out of box colour reproduction..
The default colour settings on panasonics is only average. Will have to play with the gazillion colour options and fine tune to get the PQ we like.
Black level, gradation and caliberation are top notch though.

I landed at 3 pm and on the way home got a call from the Chroma delivery guy that they were on way to my place to deliver the VT20, couldnt believe they were so eager when i had mentioned time of 8 pm onwards...anyways decided to stay at home and take the delivery which I did:yahoo:.

The box is sealed and is alright from all sides no signs of damage, havent opened it yet waiting for the panny guy as i stay alone and would be needing help to unpack and set it up.

The delivery process was as under:
a. TV Set- month of import - Feb 2011 (Surprisingly the MRP mentioned on the box is Rs. 1,99,000/-)
b. HDMI keyboard box (Came packed in a small logitech carton...details are of Logitech Honk Kong sending it to Chroma India, couldnt understand as to why they would courier 1 keyboard from Hong Kong to india, MRP mentioned is 1295/- )
c. A Tata Sky HD plus scratch card. Delivery guy has told me to SCRATCH the card and call the Tata sky guys who will come with the STB ....time for my SD DISH TV to retire...
d. The other scratch card (part of the offer) was not provided hence i will have to call up Croma. During purchase they didnt have stock hence told me that they will be sending it with the TV. Any idea what kind of products are on offer for people who have already scratched ? ;)

I am gonna be using the below mentioned process for break in:cool:. I would request Blasto, Satan, Amol & other forum members to pls correct and guide me in case i am not doing anything the correct way.

1. Use the below mentioned settings provided by KITTU to check whether the TV is working properly when the installation guy is here:

Mode: Professional1
Contrast 36
Brightness: 0
Colour: 30
Sharpness: 0
Vivid colours Off
Eco-format Off
P-NR Off
Intelligent Frame Creation On/Off (doesnt matter)
16:9 overscan Off
R-gain +1
G-gain -2
B-gain +4
R-cutoff 0
G-cutoff 0
B-cutoff +2

2. Use the below mentioned settings by D-NICE for running in the 120 images i have downloaded which i am gonna run for 5/6 hours every day and similarly more on weekends when i am home to complete the 100 hours break in via the USB pen drive

Picture:
Picture Mode: Photo
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 50
Color: 75
Tint: 0
Sharpness: 50
Color Temp: Cool 2
C.A.T.S: Off
Video NR: Off
Blur Reduction: Off

Slideshow Settings
Display Interval: Slow

3. Settings provided by Blasto: Removing the Green/Yellow cast issue post completion of 100 hours.

4. Reference settings provided by D-NICE post completion of 200 hours for HD movies

I will not be watching TV during this break in period so that the process is completed without any issues. As mentioned in earlier post by Satan, ask as many questions as required.....better be safe then sorry.....

Request all existing VT20 / forum owners to be patient with me, not get irritated by my post and please correct / guide me wherever required.

Looking forward for your support & cooperation...
