Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

we are watching vt20 for nearly 8 to 10 hours daily, which includes 2 hours of BD daily. This has resulted in an average increase of just 200rs in monthly bills, and this includes the increase in latest power tariffs from dept:mad:. considering all this i can say my bills has increased by around 160 bucks for my vt20 usage at an average usage of 8 hours a day:yahoo:

Yup, that is the max we can think of even with extreme usage. So power consumption is not really much of a concerns except for when using the TV with a Home UPS (like I will do when I buy it). Even then the difference is marginal between Panasonic and Samsung and I still find Samsung to be a best bet though Panasonic seems to have a more "greed" factor on VT20 ;)

personally, I also feel D550 takes the edge with better PQ with SD channels as is commented by various members out here in the forums.... actually, I will be using the TV just as normal TV in my house with usage of around 8-10 hours daily ..... and basically, 3D glasses are 1 time investment whereas the electricity bill are recurring :sad: ....... Hope that d550 does not consumes the amount of Units as mentioned in the website !!!! I am in Africa for a few months.. hence, cant check the specs physically at the showroom .... :mad:

Then go for a Microtek Line Interactive UPS of 1kVA. Should be sufficient to drive the TV and a AVR. If you intend to connect a PC as well then you should look for a 1.5kVA model. Let me know when you intend to buy, we could visit SP Road and look for best pricing and go to my friend to better the best we could get (this way I don't completely rely on my contacts to give the best price all the time).

Many thanks again. I will PM/Call you to continue discussing the possible options.

I upgraded VT20 to the new firmware BUT now I am not able to run Viera Cast offline, earlier the home screen of viera cast was available offline ?? :(

What can be the problem, should I try to re-install the update ?

Though, the system shows the new firmware version now...

EDIT : It is available when connected to internet, so no big issue :)

What is the new version of the firmware? Any observations on what has changed since 5.606?

Can someone please check gaming performance of this TV as sub-sampling thing is disheartening for Panasonic Plasmas. Hows the lag and 3D quality on PC games?

i cant really comment on the sub-sampling, but i've played gears of war 3 and god of war 3 on it for a few mins (just to check performance). gears of war felt as if the war was raging in my hall istelf :D , whereas god of war 3 was too dark (the blacks overhwhelmed me ;) ) for me to continue playing any further. lag was not an issue at all for me though. i need to check an FPS now, perhaps battlefield 3 next.

also, next i would check batman in 3D on the TV in a couple of days (console). sorry, but havent hooked up the PC to my TV.

Thanks buddy, did you try running it in PC monitor mode? Any coloration of white text, etc? What happens if you set the RGB range to full, does it still do subsampling?

dont mention....i havent used it as a PC monitor yet, because i dont intend it to use it that way. but if you want me to check, i can surely do that.

Is there calibrated settings posted for the vt20 anywhere on this thread?

You may have a look at D-nice's Calibrated settings. Link given on the first post of this thread only.

Add to it the green tint removing settings posted by Blasto, I think that should be good enough. :)

BTW, I have completed 180 hours of break-in... Yippee !! :yahoo: Just 20 more hours of slides left :)

Ohh so u r running sides for 180 hrs?
You should start watching television and enjoy it. i have done 80 hrs of my samsung 51d490 ,havnt played any slides and no IR till now. Only once had of airtel logo but thts been solved by scrolling bar. So i dont think IR is any problem if u play play full screen content, low brighness during initial hours.

You tell that 100 times and people will still run the slides. :)
Believe me, I have tried. ;)

Most of the settings on d-nice settings are not available on my vt20 maybe because those are for north American model.

Presently I'm using satans posted settings and the pq looks quite nice and natural .... Btw I'm not running break in slides at all but brightness is 0 like posted in satans settings.

I have completed the break in period of 200 hours now. :)

@audiodelic

Yes, I also saw that just now, May be someone else can provide a link to calibrated settings... I also need it now, at present I have switched to THX mode after completing the break in.

@Blasto & Techie

This is my first plasma, I don't wanna risk anything thats why ran slides. Hope u understand :)

I ran scrolling for 150 hours, another 100 hours of 2D blurays and about 40-50 hours of 3D to break-in 51D550. Took about a month but totally worth it.

Now i watch everything tension free without any fear of getting IR and also the PQ and black levels are excellent :)

Glad you completed that. Heard you did your break in using "Torch" mode when THX or other low brightness levels may have been better during the initial break in.

Very very true.

with my 50vt20d i started to run the dvd and after some time may be for a total time of 10hrs when not watching the tv. then i felt quite silly about the whole thing and threw the dvd away. but i did make sure the entire tv screen was filled with images by using it only for watching movies on blurays or torrents. no issues seen now.

2 days back went out and bought the th-p42x30d for the bedroom and right away started using it to watch regular tv, just making sure the entire screen is filled.

I used only the slides and settings (photo) given by D-nice. Nothing else. I dont know what is torch mode... Sorry :(

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
