Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Are u using normal 16:9 mode not Zoom in using ur airtel HD . Does airtel logo have any effect?

Yes, I am using normal 16:9 mode.

Airtel logo or any other channel logo has little to no effect. I mean when u switch off the TV in absolute dark, u may see the logo for a minute or two (when u go really close up to the screen) and after that it vanishes. In day time or in well lit room you can't notice any such thing.

Hope this helps. :)

Can anybody please provide a link for better calibrated settings than the THX mode for VT20 ??? Although, I like it but wants to check if it can do even better :)

Search for all the reviews on the internet, one uk site has professional1 calibration settings which are similar to satan's settings, i thought they were better than thx settings.

Hi All, I just got myself a VT20 after reading through the site as well as a few others. However, I have a small suspicion about my unit and was really hoping to get your collective thoughts on this bit.

When I turned it on, I noticed at the bottom portion of the screen, where the vierra cast menu normally is, there seems to be some sort of image retention, or burn in of sorts. The panel is not showing any content (in fact just waiting for something to come in on HDMI 2), but there's clearly something visible there.

Being a little suspicious, I checked how to enter the service menu, and try to get a read out of how many power on hours the panel has had. The values read:

Time:04411:00 Count:0000573

Having just gotten the panel, I'm not sure if these values basically mean the panel has had about 4000+ hours of use and it's been turned on/off about 573 times.

I'm planning to give the vendor a call on this, but thought I checked with the experts here if my interpretation is correct.

Also curious, if I may, would be the amount of hours your panels had when you received it? From the other threads or post, most seem to come with about less than 100 hours on the panel.

Hope to hear from you guys soon on this as I suspect I've been taken for a ride. It's supposed to be a new panel, but, didn't seem to be the case. Hope to hear your thoughts on this bits before I engage them and panasonic. Thanks in advance everyone!

Time:04411:00 Count:0000573 ?
Dude Ur Panel has been used very badly, u better exchange it, they must have given u the display piece, even for a display panel thats a very high use age, when i bought my the tv, usage was less then a min....

Mate, even though mine was imported in Feb 2011 the usage was "0" hrs and minutes and switch on counter was also "0". Call the dealer and return the panel right away.....better not to have the set rather then with so many usage hours already logged in.....take refund if hes not willing to give a brand new set.........

Hi guys, thanks for the inputs. It would seem to make sense that the unit is a display unit. Taking 4411 divided by 573 yields 7.69 hours/day...an average working day I guess.

I'll badger the vendor tomorrow. My concern now is he may just give me another VT20k, with the counter reset. Not sure if it's really that easy to reset the counters (lifetime and switch on counter). What do you think guys?

I'm leaning towards a refund in this case.

@namuramc..that's a definitely used piece.. Better exchange it or get a refund.

I don't think that the counters can be reseted.. I heard somewhere in this forum that it cannot be done.. So rest assured :)

The seller has taken you for a ride, do not waste a moment and get on it!

Make sure you check the usage hours on the replacement set if you decide to get another one from the same person.

The counters cannot be reset otherwise these display pieces would have easily been sold as new, which is not the case.

Thanks for the inputs guys! Will certainly give them a buzz today and make some noise. Great to know that the counter cannot be easily reset. Will give Panny a call as well to see if there's some sort of security seal on the unit to confirm that it is new.

Hello all VT20 owners..

I am interested in buying a P50VT20 myself and saw a piece available in Croma, Brigade road. He was quoting 77k for the TV and promised to give me freebies though I do not yet know what they are exactly!

I am looking for a best deal on either 50V20 or VT20. I do not like 3D content and wouldn't use it much.. If anyone of you know a place in Bangalore where V20 is available for a good price. Please PM or let me know through this thread.

I am also looking for a good 42" plasma..Let me know if there is a GT20 available somewhere as well.

Also, at all Panasonic Plasma owners : How bad is the burn in problem now? Has it been completely resolved?

Well the update that I have is, they will take back the unit. They MAY have one more unopened unit, but on the other hand have offered to let me take the Sharp LE830 52 inch for a slight markup. What do you guys think? Should I take the unopened unit or go for the LE830 which is a LED/LCD?

Questions you should try to find answers are
how comfortable you are dealing with this dealer?
What is the guarantee that the unopened piece is really unopened?
Same question for the sharp.

If you are not confortable, better find another dealer. But the catch is that the above questions apply for "any dealer" that has display units :p.

If you opt for unopened piece check if it is possible to verify the TV usage at the dealers store/warehouse before you take delivery and note the TVs serial number.

For atleast VT20 - there is nothing called a "sealed piece". One can get the TV out of the box without opening the sticky tapes by just removing the 4 plastic holders which hold the lower part of the box with the upper. These holders can be put back in place easily too. So without checking the usage do not take delivery of this set.

Hi amol12, thanks for the note. Appreciate it. Yeah I'm having those thoughts myself as well.

Just wondering though, if the LE830 is comparable to the VT20 in terms of qualities such as contrast, black levels?

Mate, I am sure if you have bought the VT20 you would have done some research.......If you think that the sharp will meet your requirements as well then go ahead with it subject to it being a new sealed piece.

Hi guys, thanks for the inputs. I'm guessing the sharp probably would not be able to match up, so I'd probably head the refund route. Seems to be the safest to call it a day and probably pick up a ST30 from somewhere else.

Appreiciate if you someone could answer this for me..
