Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

I have the strangest and stupidest question! The video seems faster as compared to my older panasonic plasma. The lip sync and sound are normal, I don't know why is this happening? Or am I just not used to such a high end tv?

The picture quality is fantastic, everything is great... But the speed seems faster.

Can someone please help me undestand this.
Thanks a lot.

I must thank you for putting this down in words... something which i've always felt was too stupid to ask!

I have a similar feeling but not just with VT20, but with most new lcds/leds sets as well. All my TV viewing for the last five years has been on a 40" Samsung LCD and when I switch over to the VT20 i get this strange funny feeling about the movements of onscreen characters as if someone changed the tempo, and as you aptly described, seems fast.

The only thing i can pin point to could be a slow refresh rate on my old lcd panel and watching the same on the new plasma plays mindgames lol. Maybe i'll get accustomed to it in time, but it will take a while i'm sure!

I also feel fast moving images when watching an sd channel on airtel hd. But not with movies being streamed from my lappy.

I think this is something to do with the 50 hz and 60 hz output thing...

But I am not sure...

ok so after some careful viewing of blu ray content (downloaded and playing off my external hdd + wd media box) there are quite a few moments when the picture is choppy.. i have seen the same movies on my older panasonic plasma without any issues.

so is the tv defective?

im glad i could help man. trust me i was expecting to be bashed on forums for asking such a question but there was no other way to find out.

i have tried switching off IFC as recommended by BLASTO and everything seems to be smoother and "normal" tempo now. I'm going to observe my viewing experience for the next few days to finally decide.

as far as the pic quality goes, vt20 is simply amazing!

@Blasto,
I tried both ways (IFC on and off)and the result is same..
even I tried to switch from 50 to 60Hz..but in vein...
I only have problems while watching BDrips or Blu rays..(some scenes move faster abnormally) no problem with SD..
What is IFC and how to switch it off
its in system setup, other settings..

Why are you running BRs in 50/60Hz?? :s :s
Run them in native 24Hz.. (If it is 24Hz).
Set output of your media player to 'native'. If it does not change, keep it at 1080p 24Hz.
(If you have WDTV Native does not work)

Edit: BTW, If you set 24Hz while viewing native 50/60Hz file, you will see hell!!

I think the effect is due to moving from Panny->panny..
I have actually kept it 'on' for non movie stuff..
If you got the ST30, you would have gone mad lol.. It is supposedly more smoother.

But, 50Hz content still has some issue.. IFC is Intellligent Frame Creator which is 'Not So Intelligent' apparently.. Lol..

Yes, at some level I do feel the effect is due to Panay to penny! Maybe my mind has trained itself.. Lol

I will try playing around with IFC to observe any noticable changes. It's definitely not so intelligent

Btw.. Is there a way to manually toggle 50hz - 60hz?
And I am running all my devices, that is, wd media box, ps3, Xbox via denon 1910 avr... Is there anything I can do to make sure I don't face similar issues?

BLASTO - is this something you toggle from the blu ray player? I don't have one. Just wondering if there are any settings in the tv itself.

Thanks!

TV just plays whatever you feed it..
HD DTH is always 50Hz. So have to live with it. But honestly, after a month or so, Iam not seeing the motion artifacts.

For other sources, You can set the output to 24/50/60 in the media player. Not sure about the BR player. Maybe it is dependent on the manufacturer.

I have WDTV. I set it to 60Hz for 50Hz and 60Hz movies and 24Hz for 24Hz movies.

I have set my POHD on auto hence when movie plays it appears on the screen as 1080p 24hz and similarly for 60hz as well.......no probs so far.........

Unfortunately, my WD media box does not have such an option. I guess its tool old, time for an upgrade :ohyeah:

Aha.. The joys of ownership, saw some dead pixels today, almost like a tiny streak on the bottom right corner of the screen. Running the slides right now but I don't see them anymore.

Oddly dead pixels are not showing up on all channels.

Thats odd,may be your tv dont like those channels **troll**

Dead pixels are pixels which are never lit. It may be dead sub pixel(s) which was also the case with my TV. Run the D-nice slides, especially the RGB ones and these will appear dead every time for a given color. It will appear dead in the white screen as well.

Checking a dead pixel while browsing channels is incorrect way IMHO especially at corners where a colored channel logo might be present. So it will show up as dead for some channels (which needs the dead sub-pixel to be lit) whereas it will show as normal for others.

Hi Guys, got my well new VT20 from the shop, this time with 0 on both the hours and switch-on counters :D

I'm burning it in using D-Nice's settings now. But his settings are really quite something, contrast at max, and brightness at max as well. Just wondering if this should be followed to the letter?

Also curious if I should leave my unit on all day, all night just to reach that 100 hours? Or should I give it a break once in a while. What do you guys think?:)
