Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Hi Guys, got my well new VT20 from the shop, this time with 0 on both the hours and switch-on counters :D

I'm burning it in using D-Nice's settings now. But his settings are really quite something, contrast at max, and brightness at max as well. Just wondering if this should be followed to the letter?

Also curious if I should leave my unit on all day, all night just to reach that 100 hours? Or should I give it a break once in a while. What do you guys think?:)

Congrats. Its not in your options but I would say start watching normal content and use the slides to check if there are any dead pixels or IR :).

Dead pixels are pixels which are never lit. It may be dead sub pixel(s) which was also the case with my TV. Run the D-nice slides, especially the RGB ones and these will appear dead every time for a given color. It will appear dead in the white screen as well.

Checking a dead pixel while browsing channels is incorrect way IMHO especially at corners where a colored channel logo might be present. So it will show up as dead for some channels (which needs the dead sub-pixel to be lit) whereas it will show as normal for others.

Agree with you 100% as I just ran the slides and checked for dead pixels, didn't see them on any of the colours. It was the logo indeed. I feel so stupid now. Actually my brother was watching tv in the morning and called me at the problem while I was at work so I was all worked up as the tv is only a few days old.

Btw.. My brother's name is amol as well

Thanks buddy! :D

those settings strictly are for the aging slides only ,you should not use tv for watching other content ,

IMO,take it slow.. she's too young.. :ohyeah:

hahaha thanks guys:P vidy, noted on that:P

Probably give her a break in the morning before heading to work.

Did a check for dead pixels but so far thank god nothing yet. Will keep an eye out :D

I'm a bit confused. So when would you run the slides? And more importantly how long should u run them at a stretch?

Its just another line of thought of watching content directly (without black bars by zooming which also gets rid of static logos) without worring about slides.

i havent watched many movies on my TV since i bought it. just one blu-ray disk, and 3-4 BDrips. y'day i watched the BDrips of saving pvt ryan, and captain america, and the experience was scintillating, to say the least !! esp. the scenes with green hilly background, shrubs, trees, and water in 'saving pvt ryan', i have no words as to what a treat it was for my eyes to watch them on the screen ! :clapping:
i could just imagine what PQ one would be greeted with if a BRD is used, since i know there's quite a difference in watching a BDrip and seeing the same title on a BRD :ohyeah: :licklips:
earlier to purchasing this TV, i used to wonder why people often refer to the phrase 'blacks to die for', and what could superior 'blacks' hold in them so as to mesmerise people so much, or even what is exactly meant by 'proper blacks'; but now....?! i know, i know, and i am glad and so happy to see what magic it holds ! :yahoo:

would be posting some screenshots of movies and games in a few days (though i believe just the screenshots wont do fair justice to what NEEDS to be seen in person, in real-time).

anyway, could anyone please point me to where i could find original factory settings for the TV ? do we have it here in the thread ?

thanks !

All who got thier TVs from croma and had availed of the 5% cashback check your accounts. 1K has been credited to my account a few days before. - Just a reminder - I tend to forget such offers :).

I know what you mean. Infact another area where this TV excels compared to LED-LCD / LCD TV's is while gaming. If any of you have ever played games like NFS with one of the night time tracks, you'll immediately see the difference.

With my other LCD TV at home, playing night time tracks was a nightmare since the TV is always trying to adjust the backlight in the darker scenes. Every few seconds you can notice the backlight go back and forth between dim and bright making it next to impossible to play.

With the VT20, no flickering whatsoever and excellent detail in the darker scenes. All the GOLD medals I have in NFS are testament to that ;)

I'll try and get that for you, but you could just try reseting the TV to factory default again. Infact I think each and every Picture Profile allows you to individually reset it to the defaults without having to reset the whole TV. It should be the last option in the Picture Menu.

yeah i do game on the TV. now am very much happy with my benq 24" LCD monitor for gaming/movies when others would not want to be disturbed, with great PQ and good black-levels, but the picture depth and 'liveliness' which i have seen on the VT20, the LCD monitor can only dream of. it really feels as if you are IN the game/movie while engaged in it on the VT20. sounds odd, but its a thing that has to be experienced !

i just finished playing Battlefield 3 on the TV, and now playing God of War 3, and soon to start with Uncharted series (for which am pretty much excited with the prospect of playing the whole brilliant & beautiful series on the VT20). am hoping to post some in-game screenshots of different game-genres in the days to come (with some picture-settings that could help one play better). nice to know of your NFS achievements ;) ! i seriously need to check that out

many thanks for that ! i will check it as soon as i reach home. i faintly remember seeing that individual reset for settings in each pic-profile at the bottom. that should suffice for me :)

Hi, Any idea where i can get the new-unused piece in Bangalore for a good deal?

Raghu,

Talk to Ramesh @ devi international . He would say 80 firmly but you can definitely ask for a price match to 75.5k(last sale). I know there are many threads for 68k and 65k here , but yet too see a reply from some one who really purchased at that price.

i think tv is "normal" too... :clapping:

I don't have this issue on my LCD TV! Did you disable Dynamic Contrast and Energy Saving on your TV?

Unfortunately, its not (just got it confirmed through another member "panny"). I find it better to go with fresh stock of Samsung 51D550.

Hehe, what do you mean dude? Its readily available for all of us who want to go for 68k. However I am not convinced to take a display unit for anything higher than 60 to 65k now! Its better to take fresh 51D550 with 2x glasses unless we get that kind of pricing for VT20 as I expect. Rest is up to the members here.

The unit available at Devi is also an open box unit. If not, I can try to negotiate atleast for around 74k.

So the one you negotiated for 68k was display..., would 60-65k price convince you to buy the Display unit? So for 74k you can get a brand new sealed unit , am I correct? :indifferent14:

I am confused here completely. Throw some light here please :).

i think wait for a few months, you will get vt20 display units for 40k after 2012 panasonic models are released :) .That will be a good price for a display unit :) Or else go for st30 or 51d550
