Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

wanted to report another good news guys (sorry, couldnt keep it curbed :o ) ! this TV keeps surprising me (and making me happier).
as a few of you know, i had started on a LED-LCD TV hunt, staunchly against a plasma TV, one of the prime reasons for that being (after a showroom demo) 'supposedly' low brightness, esp. for gaming.
but i now note that (and no, i know its not some placebo ;) ) my eyes have pleasantly adapted to the movie-theatre like, 'low light output' conditions of the THX mode. if i try to watch even SD content, in fully lit room, say in jacked up settings of 'professional 1', or say 'game' or 'photo' mode, it sort of pierces my eyes. all those self-created illusions of mine about 'low brightness = bad viewing experience' lie shattered in front of me now. although my hall doesnt have any of those 'brightness-killing' light conditions, i now find myself preferring to use dim lights while watching movies on the TV at nights, and eagerly look forward to friday-night for a prime-time show (and today happens to be a friday. Yayyyy !!)

am absolutely loving it :)

Can anyone please confirm if the VT20 model is available anywhere in Bangalore? A friend of mine is desperately looking for this model.
Also, can one of you who bought this TV recently confirm the price?

Most are display units. Croma branch outer ring road claims to have one new in stock , they had one in display thou.

Last I checked, Croma was selling VT20 display model for 72k. I checked with Prankey and he told me it is not a good price, so dropped the idea.

If you get a new piece, please let me know.

Hey Guys, I just registered at this forum and have been researching on the best TV to get myself this Xmas. I have read the reviews about both the Panasonic ST30 and the VT20. I am a little worried about IR and burn-in of the plasmas. I have demoed the Sony NX 720, Samsung LED 6600 and also the Sharp 830m. I thought by now I would get the 50vt20 for under 70k but that is not the case, the croma closest to my place has offered me a price of 77k for the 50vt20 and 70k for 42st30. I will be watching mostly HD movies from my lappy and external HDD.
Please advice.

Regards,
Bilbo

You are screwed!!!
You can watch TV in your gazillion friend's houses.. :ohyeah:

Yay!!!!
booked my 50VT20 for 73.5k from Croma, getting delivery tomorrow. They gave me the stand which is meant for 50X30, I hope it fits.
One thing I noticed during the demo, start cricket HD showed motion judder if one focussed on the fast moving ball. Is this because the TV was not caliberated correctly? Have others also noticed this?

congrats ! could you pls tell which croma center was it ? not to make you feel jealous/repentant or anything, but a member here got a new VT20 with nice goodies for 70k from croma bhayander ;) you could ask them to match prices with croma bhayander. they certainly can do that. make full use of the opportunity. though i know you cant get the money back, but you could certainly insist on throwing in some more goodies with the TV, like say an extra pair of 3D glasses. that would really be a WOW thing !

and yes, i dont watch cricket, so sorry, cant comment on that. let others suggest you :)

I can confirm that the TV shows judder on some sources and some programs. If you engage Frame Interpolation, it's better but not perfect. If someone wants to check, try watching Masterchef India (Star Plus HD, Sat/Sun 9 PM). Judder is very easily visible on this show. I haven't been able to figure out why it happens. Any ideas from other owners?

It doesn't, however, happen on all sources. I'm yet to see any judder on blu-rays.

Have you set the stb resolution to 1080 60hz ? if yes, change it to 50hz and see if that helps

STB default is 50hz.

Correct me if i'm wrong tata sky hd + has only 50hz not 60hz option at all.
In vt20 i have switched off all frame interpolation etc. picture processing features. I am using the picture settings recently posted by theseeker with high brightness etc.

Thanks, audiodelic. Do you also see judder on your TV on certain content? Maybe i'm more sensitive to it.

I picked it up from Croma Bandra/Khar, I am feeling a little jealous now  I got delivery today but I will try to get one of those wireless keyboards or an extra set of glasses. Also I'm wondering whether to go for HD on cable TV or DTH, my cable guy is promising 20 hd channels for 500 per month including all SD channels, I hope those channels are tru-HD, he will demo tomorrow so I need to wait, incase those are just upscaled I may go for Airtel HD.

since the last few days i had been observing a peculiar thing. during some slow horizontal/vertical panning shots,
the motion felt slightly jittery. now i realise that THIS is what so many people keep referring to. but to me it felt very subtle.
another thing i noticed was smooth cam-motion in most of the scenes, esp. in blu-rays, as if the IFC was ON.

will check the above programme. now i will try to note where/when, and at what frequency am i seeing the judder happen, and let you people know.

certainly push for freebies, esp. extra 3d glasses. also, contact the member here in post #209, and request him for his invoice no., and then take the no. to your croma center and ask them to match the prices with that invoice, and then see the magic happen :)

EDIT : Pardon me for the double posts.

With Blu-Rays, there's a setting "24p Smooth Film" which essentially makes the TV show the Blu-Ray at 96 Hz instead of 24 Hz, showing each frame 4 times, thus making it look smoother. It works great and I've thus far not seen any judder or flicker or any other motion issues on Blu-Rays thus far. The 24P Smooth Film is at the same place as IFC in the settings. It actually replaces the IFC setting when it detects a 24 Hz source (Blu Ray).

I wish blacks were blacker still but other than that, Blu Ray playback looks flawless to me.

thanks mate, I got in touch with him but are you sure that croma does the price matching even after purchase?
