Got a new squeezebox touch yesterday. Very elegant design, both in hardware and software. Took me about 10 minutes to set up. I have been listening to "All Classical FM, Portland OR" for the past 3 hours and am loving it. Don't miss Worldspace :)

Re: HT5400 bought from amazon usa

just bought my HT5400
Hello Gurus,
I just bought a Onkyo HT 5400 , It is a 7.1 setup weighing almost 36 K.g.

i got it for 378 US dollars, which is a great deal, 1/3rd price of india.

I have my cousin and family coming to india.

option A

can they open the box and put 2 speakers each in their bags
Also AVR in other bag.
there are 4 to 5 people coming , at different times within a month or three months.

Get the woofer packed ( please suggest the packing of woofer)

or

option B

should they not open the box and bring the original bill invoice of amazon , which clearly states the price in us dollar , it is 378 dollars.

according to me , they should not charge any custom duty as it is valued less than 25000/- actually less than 20000/-Rs. 18350 to be precise.

I shall be obliged if u can throw some light .

according to me if they open the packing and carry units in different luggage bags, i can save custom duty ,

or is option B advisable.

they are coming to india in different dates, 1 or 2 people at a time.

in total they may have 8 units of luggage to carry with them.

I am a newbie , this is my 1st home theatre.

what shall be the custom duty , if applicable.

thank u and regards.

My latest purchase is a used KEF Q90 floorstanding speakers. Picked them up from craiglist for $175.
Paired them up with my Sure Electronics T-Amp and they are singing quite well! Definitely an upgrade over the Wharfedale 8.2s :clapping:

@sdpandit

I believe they charge 25% on electronic items if it exceeds a total value of 25000 per person. So separate bags will be better.

Second I myself don't know if they will agree with an amazon bill. They have their own rate list.

They may not bother to open the luggage in all cases though it is safe to declare.
