Sony HX 820/920 review & discussion

Well, Sony is the market leader in the Indian TV market. They sell more LCDs than Samsung's plasma and LCDs combined. :)
So there is no doubt they will be sensible with the pricing. And this year all Bravia models have a very competitive pricing, the 46HX925 is for 2 lacs when last year the 46NX710 was retailing for the same price. So its a good start really and I am sure the other models like the HX820 and NX720 will be sensibly priced.

And yes as the person above suggested, the HX820 is more than a match for the D8000. And IMO the HX925 is a level above the D8000. D8000 has so many problems and its PQ is nowhere close to HX925.

And at the person who got the demo, the HX925 needs to be calibrated properly to get the best picture. So what you saw is probably just 40% of the capability of the set. Its not well calibrated from the factory.

Hi yes this year all bravia models have a very competitive pricing with very good features also. Sony Hx925 is awesome. I am waiting for Nx720 40inch. :)

Hello folks,

Finally managed to get some official review of HX820. Read it here -

Sony Bravia KDL-46HX820 Review - LCD TVs

Review doesnt look as promising as I though it would be after reading the great reviews for its big brother HX925.

I am now planning on finalizing 55D8000 from samsung.:)

Only the Cnet USA reviews are good which have lot of objective data.
The others ones CNET asia ,Australia and even whats hi fi reviews are just subjective opinions.

You can also check the review below

Google Translate

Digitalverus has review the HX920
Sony Bravia KDL-55HX923

Chad' B has also reviewed the US version.
I had been very impressed with Sony's 52HX909, so I was expecting great performance from the HX929. Boy, did I get it! The HX929's image proved to be both exciting and accurate after calibration; in other words, it has a huge "Wow!" factor. I saw superb color and pop; rich but not overdone flesh tones; and truly black backgrounds. The image had excellent fine detail, and pans and motion looked very good. Dark objects in images were stable and true: they were not too dark that they sunk into the black background, but not so bright that they looked washed out or exaggerated. Overall picture quality was very Kuro-esque; rich contrast, vibrant, and true to life.

I did not get a chance to evaluate the HX929's 3D performance. However, I was very impressed with the 3D performance of the 52HX909; it was bright, exciting, and as natural as I've seen on a 3DTV. I would expect the HX929's 3D performance to be similar, if not improved, over the HX909's

In some posts where he was asked which is better Vt30 or the HX929 has also said

Chad:"I can say this from my experience with the 65VT30
If I could be assured that my viewing seat was on axis and I was about 9-10 feet away, I'd easily choose the HX929. Wouldn't even be close.
Now, if the Panny FW issues get resolved, it'd be a closer contest"

When asked about depth and Pop between the HX929 amd VT30
Chad :"I think both depth and pop are better on the HX929."

In another post he said " the HX929 is right up there with the Elite Kuro"

But the one chad reviewed seem to have average viewing angle.

Cnet as also reviewed the HX92x and one of the best tvs they have ever tested.

"In short, it represents the pinnacle of LCD picture quality, so if you're shopping in the extreme upper end of the TV market and were only going to consider plasma, the XBR-HX929 might change your mind."

Hi thanks for the info but when are they going to launch nx720? I think Sonys Bravia line up is a bit confusing. They have such good models like ex620, hx720 and hx820 but they are not launching it in india. Samsung has 5 40 inch led tvs in their range whereas Sony has 2 as if now. People are demanding leds tvs but Sony is busy launching their lcd range. Samsung and LG both are launching lot of led tvs this year. I am not happy with Sony this year. I know HX920 is the best led but it is very expensive. Sonys middle of the line led tv range is not that good and that is where the real action is.
For asia(excluding china/japan) none of the above models except the NX720 will be launched

They have launched HX820 in Australia, New Zealand and Hongkong and NX720 is launched almost all over. Why are they not launching HX820? When is NX720 going to be launched? Why are they leaving such a big gap between EX720 and HX925?

Err... may I know how you came to the conclusion that NX720, HX820 models will not be launched in Asia ?

AFAIK these models should be launched in a month. Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and all other Asian countries have these models already :)

Only the HX720 is not meant for Asian market IIRC

Also the reason behind delay is the low supply due to Japan disaster. So maybe the HX820 will be delayed but will certainly be launched.

Also the NX720 and HX820 are not vastly different TVs, the PQ on both is more or less the same with slight difference due to X Reality PRO chip in the HX820. And also the better "micro" dimming.

Hi i hope they launch hx820 and even hx720 & ex620.. Even nx720 have local dimming feature but since hx925 is very expensive they need to launch hx820 to compete with samsungs 8 series.. nx720 should compete with samsungs 7series and d6600 led tv.. or they should lower the price of hx925.. they should also launch ex620.. and hx720 is far better than ex720 so they should launch that also.. i am waiting for nx720 40 inch.

Where did i say NX720 won't be launched.

Sony press release couple of months back doesn't mention the HX820 or HX720 Sony Redefines Television With New BRAVIA™ LCD HDTV Line : Regional Press Releases : Sony Asia Pacific

Hi there is also no mention of cx320, cx420 and cx32d in the press release so i think they are going to launch hx820 for sure in India and Sony wants India to be in their top 5 markets. I hope they launch ex620 and hx720 also. Recently Sony has become very aggressive in india in pricing and launching products. They have become very fast in getting new products.

Since Sony hasn't even registered the HX820 and HX720 in Singapore Registered Controlled Goods.

Yes, I mentioned there will not be any HX720 but HX820 will be launched certainly.

See here - HX820 up on Sony Asia Pacific Bravia page. :)
But HX720 is not listed there, so no hope of HX720 launching in India.

As I said, there is some delay with the HX820 maybe due to the X Reality PRO chip short supply. The HX925 is a premium set that will sell in small numbers so for it supply is not an issue but HX820 is a more affordable set and will sell a lot more than HX925 hence I expect there will be some delay before its launched. Even in USA where it is available, there seems to be a supply issue.
