Sony HX 820/920 review & discussion

Important note to anyone interested in HX925. There has been a price drop for the HX models.
New prices

46" - 1,53,900 Rs
55" - 2,59,900 Rs

Are you sure about this price fall?? atleast the sony india site doesn't reflect it. Anyway, thanks for the info, I am happy.:yahoo:

I am targetting 46" for Diwali, banking on some lucrative offers. :D

Great :licklips:
I would suggest time your purchase for Diwali offers (Like I am doing).
Secondly since we both are from Pune let me know from which store you getting this.

Diwali is good time to buy a non Sony tv,since Sony has never given discounts on tv.
The only time they give huge discounts are during clearance sale to make way for newer models, during which the old models are one of the cheapest tvs you can buy, last year and a year before their tvs where one of the cheapest to buy.

Adder, I guess last year Diwali bundle offers with Sony were the most attractive ones. Thats the reason I was hoping to have something similar bundle offers.

Anyway; what do you suggest about timing the purchase?

Well diwali is indeed a good time, now i remember i believe you are talking about the free 3d glass, blu ray player/movies and HT offer for all 3d tvs purchased .

Yes, you are right mate. :)
I think Dassera offers are worth looking out; I think they will set the tone for Diwali offers where it peaks; as Dassera and Diwali are the peak festive seasons when they make up the huge sale figures.

Well sadly I don't find any dealers willing to give much discount, so most probably will get it from Sony Center itself (the one at J.M. Road )
And yes since I am also looking at getting the Bluray Home theater BDW-E980 I think diwali will be a good time. Last year they offered upto 4000 off on TV + HT purchase. I might even buy the TV from letsbuy. Their prices are much lower than Sony Center and other showrooms.

Last time when I was serious (for KLV46Z550A) I got a very good offer from Radhika Sales Akurdi. He was also willing to provide services in Pune City.
Since I have big friend circle in Akurdi Pradhikaran many of them own things from Radhika Sales and they have above average service history.

If you are thinking during Diwali timeframe then keep me updated.
Lets try to club and strike a deal. I already have 3 TV's in total lined up (not necessarily of same Sony model).:)

I am from Pune and in the same boat. Considering 46" hx925 in coming dussera. Let us club together to get a deal.

Few points about the tv:
- Blu-ray content looked nice.
- SDTV content looked bad. Although it is expected that it will not look as good as a CRT because of high resolution, I expect it to atleast look sane from a distance of 10 feet. Need to tweak some settings ?
- Is it a lot difference from NX720 model ?
I inquired the price in aundh. NX720 46" was quoted at 1.20 lakhs while
HX925 46" was quoted at 1.49 lakhs.

As I said earlier, to achieve Diwali numbers they come up with better deals and bundle offers; I would suggest you to time your purchase during Diwali

Lets keep eachother updated and should try to club the volume purchase to get some good deal/offer.

Diwali offer this year is same as last year. Upto 4000 off on purchase of both LCD + HT, and freebies like 2 months Airtel Digital TV subscription, Digital Photo Frame, Pen Drives,Clock Radio etc free depending on model. 0% interest scheme as well.
@zaphodb

The store settings do not reflect the true PQ of HX925. What you saw was not even half of the potential of HX925. Even SD will look slightly better once the set is properly calibrated to your viewing environment. And there is no comparison between HX925 and NX720, HX925 is way superior with full LED back lighting. Of course, if you will not be watching 3D /2D Blurays, 1080p content mostly then the difference is much less. But with high quality content the HX925 will blow away the NX720 or any other TV on the market today.

I am planning for 46" HX925 (or 50" Pana ST30). As mentioned above Aundh Sony has mentioned the price as 1.49L (with 2 3d glasses and skype camera worth 12K included in the offer). If we are having a volume / group buy (and I finanlise on HX 925) I am in for Diwali purchase.
I am yet to finalise because I havent watched SD (Tatasky) on this TV as its out of order in Aundh sony center.

Do keep us updated on what you finally decide.
By now we already have tentatively 4 numbers of HX925 + 2 models of other Sony series.

Sure, The salesman said he will call me when Tata sky is up.

On another note he said its impossible that the you will get it at lesser price there ot even elsewhere as sony has strict policies related to pricing. (Also check another pana thread where a member was refunded the price for pana ST30 by a dealer who offered lesser price than panas policies when another dealer complained).
But the salesman agreed one might get more freebies at same price.

Yes -the salesman is right. If you try to negotiate at Sony World they won't budge more than 4-5K max. over MRP. These Sony sets are imported with 35% import duty on them.
Although some multi-brand dealerships who order Bulk orders from Sony India can give some more discounts, not to mention the grey market where you can get massive discounts.
Anyway the point is -lets see what better we can get if we club the deal togather -if cash discount-Well and Good ; If some more additional bundled freebies -They are too Welcome

I went to quite a few showrooms today (NOT Sony Centers) and inquired if they would provide any discount or freebies for group purchase and none were willing to give anything more than what they give for individual sale. So I really doubt this clubbing together will work at all.

And the Diwali offer is the same as I mentioned, I confirmed with various dealers. The schemes have already started and will continue through till Diwali ends.

AFAIK Sony is importing almost all of the goods through their Thailand operations. This lets them avail of the MFN status accorded to Thailand which allows goods manufactured there to be imported in to India at a nominal 5% or even 0% rate of duty.

Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers in Walnut finish at a Special Offer Price. BUY now before the price increase.
