ST50 Owners' Thread - First impressions, Reviews, Tweaks, etc.

Hi
Anyone tested 5.1 pass through using HDMI ARC?

1. from external player to HT/AVR
2. from the inbuilt player to HT/ AVR

THANKS!

who is your dealer, I also live in mumbai (andheri). Did he have 50GT50 or 50ST50??

Kohinoor Electronics, Ghodbunder Road, Thane
I remember he had a a 42GT50 for sure. Don't recollect the two you mentioned, but that could be because I was busy looking for only 42 inch model.

Ordered 4 pairs of the Samsung 3D glasses via a friend coming from USA:

Amazon.com: Samsung SSG-4100GB 3D Active Glasses 2012 Models - Black: Electronics

I'm using a 1kV Microtek UPS with a 42GT50 and a PS3 connected. When electricity goes and the invertor kick in, the TV switches off for a moment and then restarts to standby mode.

Any recommendations on which UPS to use? Already tried with another UPS (exact same one).

Does Samsung glasses work for Panny?
I tried using the ones that came with hx850.They did not work.
I am tired of asking panny showrooms for 3d glasses.Everybody says that they dont have a stock.

Thanks.

Sony doesn't follow the universal 3D HD RF standard. They still use the ir based technology. Hence their glasses well not work with any other TV. Samsung and Panasonic have shifted to the new standard (2012 models only) and consequently their glasses are not only interchangeable, but 3rd party glasses also work with them.

Update:

Kohinoor (Thane Ghodbunder Road dealer) delivered the 42 ST50 a week ago. I instantly checked the service tool and found it was used for 168.5 hrs and started 39 times before. I rejected the delivered piece and returned. Dealer was unaware of either the service tool functionality or the fact that plasmas need break in.

All this happened despite me warning them while booking that I would check all this. And after 20 days wait. How casual they can be? The issue was escalated to Panasonic ASM (who spoke with me) and above. Now they are finding it difficult to get a 42 ST50 anywhere in the country. New shipments are not expected in near future. (Those wanting to book, beware). They offered GT if I wanted to pay more... I refused.

Now they are saying there is one set in Pune that they can ship in a 7days. Told them I shall check the SRV tool before they deliver.

Do you think that the SRV tool log can be tampered by them to make the usage hrs nil?

Good that you caught the mischief.
I am not 100% sure that the usage hours cannot be reset. Even if we assume the worst case scenario where there is a possibility to reset the usage hours, I don't think the so called TV technicians in our country would know the way to do that
Keeping fun aside, apart from checking your SRV tool menu, you can also follow other steps to verify if your set is new or not. For example, you may have to look at the packing when the set arrives. I think there is another thread which gives you lot of points on this subject.
By the way, since ST50 is not available currently, would it be possible for you to bargain further and get GT50 ? Now, you are in a morally high position (since the dealer tried to cheat you) where you can bargain with the dealer and get the GT50 price to your liking.

EEPROM- Electronically erasable programmable read only memory...

But this is how it's configured in the system.

Every memory chip got a read and write access pin in it. When user interacts with it cpu is programmed such a way so that only read access pin is activated...while system is interacting with it write access pin is activated..so system can write data on it

Yes. Those glasses work with the 2012's panny's SG4100's or something like that. I bought 5 pairs in August from the US. The work well but aren't quite as good as the Panny ones -- don't block as much side light.

I purchased a Panasonic 42 inch Plasma TV model 42ST30D from Sargam Electronics, Rajouri Garden, Delhi. They assured me that the TV is sealed and new unit and Never Used. After Installing I found that the TV has signs of wear on rear. I checked the usage hours of the Set (Thanks to HiFi vision for providing knowledge and awareness :signthankspin:) and it was SHOCKING to found that the TV was used for more that 1300Hrs !!!!
I called up the Sargam guys and they denied initially but confessed later on that this was used as a Demo piece for 6-7 months.
they offered me a discount of 2.5 thousand, ( Sharam nahi aati $#%@ ko :mad:). They finally agreed to refund my full money and took back the TV.
Sharing this fact with all of You guys on Hifi. Please be aware of this. DON'T purchase any thing from SARGAM ELECTRONICS.
Dont buy any 42ST30D Plasma from them they have only one piece left which I returned. The Serial number of Set is QN1310067..
