Re: Mtunes HD -- IR in 10 Minutes

Hell broke...TATA SKY added MTUNEs HD today and i got it added..

Guess what I tested it for just 10 min and now I can see IR...hell.

Channel and operator logos will always create such problems with plasma sets, so how are you avoiding this now? channel unsubscribed or zoomed?

Re: Dirty screen effect..not going away

Hey guys, when I run the scrolling bar on my set and when the white bar sweeps through I see what think is called dirty screen effect. At least that is what I believe it is as the white isn't completely clean. Is this normal because my older plasma didn't have thi

Hi lcdfreak - I guess you should be aware of this. We can see in various forums where people talk about DSE being seen due to the uneven application of the filters on the glass screens. So this issue is seen across the sets having the screen filter. So in that context, it is normal on your TV as well. I have personally seen this in my cousin's house who is also having ST50 and I see DSE only while running the break-in slides (particularly while green and white slide comes). Even for Vertical Banding, I could see very mildly with the green slide. I never checked so closely for the scrolling basr, but I could see only with the break-in slides. At the same time, I tried to see if those two issues are there with the normal viewing content (cricket and movies) and I couldn't find them. Neither the DSE nor the vertical banding was seen even on the panning shots across the green cricket field.

Thanks buddy...on my set or with my eyes I can see DSE during soccer hmmmmm...

Having waited for more than 15 days after the above incident took place, and post multiple irritated phone calls to the dealer and the sales managers at Panasonic, I was finally delivered a fresh ST50 today.

This one came from Pune warehouse, and it seems this was the only one in the country ??!!. I checked the SRV tool and usage hours were nil (only a few minutes that I took to check). The set seems new. Also ran the slides and there is only a slight banding (verticl) in the green slide, which I guess most owners have seen on their sets.

Currently running in zoom mode to get rid of the channel logos. No news channels for me anyways. Enjoyed playing content from my windows PC and also my Lumia 800 over DLNA. Accessing Youtube, FB and other Panasonic tools was fun. I am happy with the picture. However, certain SD channels now look pathetic. Getting a stand made so that the eye level of the characters on the television match my eye level.

Thanks for all the help and guidance. This forum rocks! :)

Update:

Kohinoor (Thane Ghodbunder Road dealer) delivered the 42 ST50 a week ago. I instantly checked the service tool and found it was used for 168.5 hrs and started 39 times before. I rejected the delivered piece and returned. Dealer was unaware of either the service tool functionality or the fact that plasmas need break in.

All this happened despite me warning them while booking that I would check all this. And after 20 days wait. How casual they can be? The issue was escalated to Panasonic ASM (who spoke with me) and above. Now they are finding it difficult to get a 42 ST50 anywhere in the country. New shipments are not expected in near future. (Those wanting to book, beware). They offered GT if I wanted to pay more... I refused.

Now they are saying there is one set in Pune that they can ship in a 7days. Told them I shall check the SRV tool before they deliver.

Do you think that the SRV tool log can be tampered by them to make the usage hrs nil?

Went to Jumbo, Vashi 2-3 days back, they don't have any of the Pana plasmas except X & XT; Though he quoted me a good price for 50ST50 and 50GT50, but he is categorical "kab milega pata nahin"

I effectively see end of plasma line in India.

In that case, I would rejoice in the fact that I got hold of the last of the best plasma in the world. Was not lured by possible future price reductions nor freebees.:yahoo:
Unfortunate that many who waited for diwali offers ended up being "end of line".

What Makes you think so?

The writing is on the wall.

Panasonic top brass have decided to exit from all non-profit business. Plasma TV business is number one qualifier. Samsung also sold the flagship 51E8000 model at rock bottom price to get rid of inventory. Samsung and LG hardly promote plasma models.

If this does not happen next year by the year after, definitely.

just4kix- agreed, neither SE's are interested to talk about plasma nor the companies making them are interested in making them available. All the good models of 2012 are not available.. Pana UT, ST, GT and Samy E8000... I think there is possibility of getting a Samy then Pana. I think Pana is now pushing only the LED's at a price either at par with Sony or sometime even at a premium to it.. It will not be easy for them to succeed in LED market to beat Sony, Samy & to an extent LG..

Onlydude ... he said that 92 for 50GT50, and 86 for 50ST50.. but added immediately .. "kab milega pata nahin, kisike paas nahin hain"

Because there is no demand for plasmas in the market due to issues like image burn-in and heavy reflections, only a few plasma enthusiasts want to buy plasma.

Etios .. I disagree to that.. in fact due to the demand supply mismatch, none of the good plasmas (GT, ST, UT, E8000 etc) are now available across most of India..

But I do agree, that looking at what the showrooms are stocking and people are normally demonstrating there it looks like LED is the preference for majority of general public

I have a PS3 connected to a 42GT50. The problem is that there are just too many jagged edges in all games.

Already tried adjusting the sharpness, contrast, color, etc.

Anyone playing the PS3 on the ST50 or GT50 here? Could you give me the settings you're using?

In the advanced picture setting, there is an an option called "Overscan". Turn it on and report.

Which Game mate..Though My ST50 is screwed with Banding, yet I am not sure if I saw jagged edges on it....

I have played, FIFA, UC3...

Slight edges would always be there given the nature of Plasma, i guess due to dithering...I mean plasma wont give sharpness like LED, due to dithering..Assume you are referring to edges on objects on gaming screen and not 16:9 aspect ratio

Also note I have played using both High contrast say 80+ and low contrast say 30-35.

You may disagree but it is the truth, almost everybody wants their tv to work without the hassles of burn-in and massive reflections, you can ask any multibrand tv showroom about their plasma sales vs LCD sales, it will be less than 10 percent even in 40-60inch segment.

As I said in another thread, I wouldn't exchange my TV for any other model (except maybe a GT50 or VT50). Only when you own a plasma for a considerable length of time and start comparing, you realize the sheer joy. I am not a blind supporter. I do not think that plasma is for everyone. To the average person I will recommend an LED first. But this is one advice that I wouldn't follow myself. If there is an LED TV our any other technology that gives me the same performance at the same price, then I will switch.
