The Movies I Liked

Persuit of Happiness.

A must watch movies with A good story and Incredible performance by Will Smith.Realy Inspiring movie..

The Fifth Element at The Fifth Element (1997).

An absolute romp. Great visual FX and sound FX too. Movie too is great with loads of action, comedy, adventure. I love Bruce Willis and this is one of his better movies. Don't miss this one.

The Big Easy at The Big Easy (1987).

A Cop and a DA have to battle corruption within the police force, mob killings and drug related gang war and also find time to love each other. Delicious, the physical chemistry between the two leads Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin is spot on against the backdrop of New Orleans.

Australia (2008)
starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, directed by Baz Luhrman

Fantastic movie with beautiful visuals of the Down Under. The horse and cattle scenes rock the LFE channel ... wonder why it didn't make it big at the Oscars?!

Cheers

Pirated DVD? Bad boy. :)

But seriously, Australia must be watched on a big screen. The scene where the cattle is chased to the end of a mountain top and saved just before they fall can be visualized only on a large screen. Reminds me of the great movies of David Lean.

I am so accustomed to seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine that I was pleasantly surprised to see him act so well in Australia.

Cheers

Saw Thick As Thieves starring Morgan Freeman as Keith Ripley and Antonio Banderas as Gabriel Martin. Keith is an accomplished thief who has never been caught though the police know he is a thief. Gabriel is a small time crook who tries to steal a bag full of diamonds from a set of couriers who just exited out of a famous Jewellery company in NY called Romanov. Keith follows Gabriel as he robs the two couriers on a train in NY. The bag of diamonds is snatched from Gabriel by a set of musclemen to whom Keith supposedly owes money. Keith then entices Gabriel to join him in stealing two priceless Faberge eggs from the impregnable vaults of Romanov promising him 20 million dollars as a prize.

The police who get on to the act is stopped by FBI as they suspect Romanov to be stealing from the coffers of Russia and smuggling priceless items into the US. The plot gets complicated as Gabriel realises he is just a pawn in a complicated game when Keith, who is caught robbing the vault, is left off by the police as Romanov do not press any charges.

Morgan Freeman is at his usual cool acting of a man who uses his brains more than his muscles. Antonio also performs well as a man who is torn between making some money, chasing a beautiful woman, and getting thoroughly confused and dejected in the end.

A simple and nice movie to watch.

Cheers

Amazon.com: Troy - The Director's Cut [Blu-ray]: Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Wolfgang Petersen: Movies & TV

Saw the Director's Cut on Blu-Ray. Leaving the movie aside, I'm sold on Blu-Ray. Wow, the visuals are just stunning on a FHD Plasma. Too bad the audio was only AC3, not even DTS so how can one even expect HD Audio. Just does not make sense giving us HD Video but not HD Audio. Still like I said I'm sold on HD Video.

Coming to the movie, it's pretty good and loaded with stars. Pretty long actually, but does not get boring. The action sequences are great and the visuals even ordinarily are stunning, but on FHD just breathtaking.

The Incredible Hulk (2008) is ok, but not great. Just cannot believe a character such as the Hulk cannot be translated into a good movie. Even Ang Lee messed it up in Hulk (2003). Just not enough fun like Transformers or Iron Man. The SFX though are something. When the Hulk begins to roar... a great workout for the subwoofer.

Saw a movie called Farcry today.

This is loosely based on The Universal Soldier series starring Van Damme and others, and on a game with the name FarCry.

A half mad scientist - Dr. Kreiger - is experimenting on human soldiers and making them invincible, bullet proof, and merciless. The experiments are done on some island that is protected by the US Government. A woman reporter wants to go to the island to meet one of the soldiers who is her uncle. She is ferried to the island by a ex-soldier, Jack Carver, played by Til Schweiger.

I like the movie for multiple reasons:

1. The cinematography is superb. The camera is used as if you are sitting on a video game and moves forward and backward, though smoothly. In a boat chase, I could literally feel the water splashing on my face.

2. Til plays the role of Jack quite well. He is carefree person who only wants to lie on his boat and get drunk. When he gets caught by Dr. Kreiger, he nonchalantly walks through the troubles as if he is going for a morning walk in the park. I thought he will get into some serious physical, but he just runs, turns around and shoots the adversary in the eye. Cool !!!

I like to see more of this actor in some serious roles and movies.

3. The sound is pleasant instead of being overwhelming.

I wonder why all mad scientists are projected as being very artistic and listening to Wagner and Mozart on a expensive turntable?

Cheers

The game is very, very good. Rated very highly along with the Half Life series and F.E.A.R. F.E.A.R. is a bit scary though. Another game that I really liked playing is Halo, only too bad all of them were not made for PC and only limited to the XBOX. I'm too much of a PC gamer and just cannot do without the mouse for FPS and TPS games.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the movie Venkatji. I'll catch up on it. BTW if anyone watches Anthony Bourdain on Discovery Travel and Living, he has a small part in this movie, playing a doctor/scientist who gets killed. He attended the shooting of this movie in Canada and it was shown on his show. I was not aware the movie had been released...

Mackenna's Gold (1969), saw it with my dad and his elder brother. They were reminiscing about the good old days and good old movies. Great movie, one that I've seen numerous times and they just don't make such movies anymore. Not to be missed...
