Toshiba U79 and U80 Owners Discussion And Review !!

Hi guys,
Long time. Everyone is hopefully fine. :)

If not price reduction, 4 year warrenty will come by again during festive period. Please wait for a few days.. Festive offers will start early this year by Oct 10, hopefully earlier. And will be a buyers market due to ongoing situation.

since he had a video of hisense vs toshiba where people bashed him for a paid review for suggesting toshiba over hisense.....he made a video after that where he could have destroyed those lads...
Yeah maybe he softened up since he got a review unit this time. Must be feeling nice and flattered, so he isn't that strong in his words this time.

I think he lost the zest after expressing anger in a couple of videos about the nature of one Plus and how these companies sell the latest buzzwords and how people keep chasing after this...I remember he had a problem with 120hz... And poor ultra wide and macro cameras...but his frustration was apparent when people went for 4 cameras instead of good dual setup..
Is it? Proves that he really loves tech to feel that strongly. Hope he gets back in form again.

Oneplus was beloved till they were the only ones selling the best mobile processor at a low cost. Now that CPUs have become cheaper with even Xiaomi saying fuck you and releasing Poco with SD845 around 20k, they can't differentiate themselves. Now they have to sell display and camera as well and these things are hard to do cheaply. Hence the increased cost in recent years. Samsung and Apple must be laughing on OP since they've worked on these things in-house since years and have a lot of IPs around these.

good points u pointed out
please share your complete recommended settings like rting does
and also your gadget recommendation website is a cool idea i think it will def work in our country India
thers already one headphone recommendation site from DMS and Zeos which use automation algorithms
thanks

The recommended settings are already in the comment above, no?

Some more points: there was some dirty screen effect but that seems to have mostly gone after 4-5 hours of use. Then again, smaller screens have more uniform panels than bigger ones and mine is 55", so 65" panels might have it worse.

Also, I've yet to find a way to play media from my PC to the TV:

Plex: the app doesn't support HDR. So it directly plays BT. 2020 encoded content on BT. 709 colour space. Everything looks weird and washed out. 1080p and regular non HDR 4k is fine though.

DLNA: The media player has massive performance issues with high bitrate content over network. Weird since the same player plays the files fine if I connect it via USB port, and Plex works fine over network.

Transferring to my external SSD and playing on the TV: works fine, but a bit cumbersome. HDR works fine here.

Casting from PC: HDR is tone mapped to SDR by windows media player, which is fine and doesn't look wrong but HDR is better. Yet to try other apps.

Casting using remoteNow app: same as PC. Everything tone mapped.

I wish I could connect to SMB, Plex worked with HDR or the internal video player worked well over network.

I guess I'll have to go with Google TV now when it launches

What? Can you elaborate? Thought the response time on this TV was shitty?

Yes, for response time, high is worse. You need a very low response time. Since this TV has a high/bad response time, it won't have much of soap opera effect since there will be motion blur. So you can crank up the de-judder setting up to 6 (out of 10) and have smooth motion without much of soap opera, which is great. I was really disappointed with motion until I turned de-judder to 6. 1-3 are really awful with a lot of judder, 4-5 are decent but still apparent judder, 6 is silky smooth.

Aah, I misread before. Do you game? If yes, can you try playing something and tell me how's the experience?

No, I don't game unfortunately. But this is an absolutely terrible TV for gaming due to high response time and 60Hz panel. I'd suggest going for Samsung Frame 2020 55" if you're into gaming, as that has HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz refresh rate.

Do you think u8080 will be good for gaming?

Few more info for

Adding more to this, Good quality elongated wall mount was included in the box. 5 expansion bolts were there for it. The Installation guy skipped the center one and drilled holes for rest 4 (2 on left and 2 on right). Once installed, The TV can be shifted left or right by 5-6 inches by lifting it slightly and sliding and then secured with screws.

Firestick can be controlled via the TV remote but I found the response very laggy. Hisense written all over the Box, Packaging. People may have doubt they brought Hisense or Toshiba.
Wait!!! So u79 and u80 are totally imported models!!! If they would have assembled these in India like u50, then they can price it even more competitively. Does Full array local dimming assembling requires more capital expenditure or what??

$408*75= 30,600
+20% export duty =36720
+28% gst = ₹47k final price!!

No, these TVs are made for movies, TV shows and your regular TV content. For gaming, you need to either get a 1440p/4k 144Hz monitor, go with Samsung Frame, or the LG OLEDs (B9, C9, BX, CX) if you can afford them.

1440p 165Hz monitors are available as low as 20-25k now, and I'd highly suggest you go for them over a TV unless you have deep pockets (in that case go for LG OLED).

Somebody mentioned that the installation person was asking for money. What happened to that? Is wall mount and and installation free?
Also did anyone purchase the extended warranty for 1 year from either ACKO or Quess?

Yes, unlike the U50 these are imported models. But the pricing doesn't work like you think it does. Even in the US this TV costs $530, but they obviously don't import at that price but at something like $250-300. The rest are profits for the middlemen/Toshiba. If this was imported at the full US price it would cost like 55-60k for the 55" model.

About why they're not made in India, they will soon be. The manufacturing plants in India are new and these are more sophisticated than cheaper TVs. By next year you can expect the next model to be made in India.

Nah, I showed him the Amazon receipt and he didn't ask for money after that. He was trying to dupe me, but I ain't an idiot. He was disappointed, so out of pity for him I asked him to dismount my older TV and install it in bedroom and I'll pay him some money. He asked for 700 rupees for such a basic task. So I told him to screw himself and dismounted my old TV myself in front of that greedy asshole in 5 minutes.

Honestly, such guys are no better than the autowallas who try to loot common people. Even if they're poor, I have no empathy for them.

I don't expect Toshiba to release u80 anytime soon or may even not release at all.
Because the hisnense u7qf was a total disaster and literally tanked in India so based on that experience they might SKIP u80
These are just my thoughts

We dont know. The tv has not launched yet.it will be similar to this comparison.

Well i was looking at comparison again. The h8f has better WCG despite not having quantum dots,More accurate EOTF,slightly better input lag.Intresting

Also H9G scoring only 6.2 in pre-calibration.its bad. Not everyone knows how to calibrate.what about casual users who just buy and start using the tv without changing any settings.
