Toshiba U79 and U80 Owners Discussion And Review !!

I was also looking for Toshiba u7980 65" since last few months but was never in stock in M.P. So recently bought one from RD pune store. Will be delivered to my cousin's home in Pune and I will be bringing it to my city through train in few days.

(Review from a laptop screen viewer - 10 years)

Finally, I bought this device!!!!

After reading so much comments from hifi vision I bought this television. Let's see what happens next..... Hopefully for a long run.
Not a regular television viewer for the past 10 years, used to watch only laptop screens and I finally bought a 55inch television from Flipkart (Not available in Amazon/RD/Chroma) in Trivandrum. Great upgrade from my Laptop screen, honestly feels good about this. Lack of fibre optics connection in my flat is taking away all the fun but 1080p videos from Netflix feels so good. Dolby vision feel like is a bliss even though it plays in 1080p in Netflix. If you are person who is upgrading from a laptop screen, this panel is not just good but GREAT. Honestly, the speakers sucks, I am used to Sony home theatre for the last few years. While connecting my sound bar there is a weird echo, simultaneously using digital out, no solutions for me yet. I tried different options but echo still rulezz for optical out connection (Blaupunkt sound bar), 3.5 jack connection sound is perfectly aligned with speakers This television is perfect for a room and within my budget. If you are buying this for a living room then speakers are definitely recommended. OS is not that great, I am not in love with this OS. Thinking of buying Shield PRO or Chromecast 2020. 1080p videos are must for the viewing experience any thing below is not recommended. Ripped movies (hollywood) which are more than 10 gb in sze looks too good for my room. I have used this TV only for OTT contents as of now. SD Qlty videos are not viewable as of now, I am spoiled......

Picture Qlty - Great
Sound - Sucks
OS - Sucks but fast ( Need another device)
Satisfaction - Great

Plus Points - Blacks are real blacks, awesome to watch intergalactic movies or series. (Comparable to AMOLED Black)
HDR and DV Contents from YouTube/Netflix looks great (Even 1080p).
Anyone who is looking to upgrade from laptop screens, large screen televisions are awesome. Period. I am thinking about short throw projectors now....
Not a Wallmounter, less than 100 inch don't wall mount
Even European market is under developed for latest display technologies, so be prepared!!
Calibrating the display is so painful, out of the box calibration is not home run.
Customers from Kerala pincodes can still order this item from Flipkart as of today.

I don't think that can happen unless your cable is faulty. Digital out is supposed to send a digital signal (optical or HDMI) so the audio file is sent to your soundbar untouched (if you've selected passthrough in audio settings). I'm also using optical audio using a high-quality cable and the audio doesn't have the echo. You have to set the audio format to S-PDIF in sound settings as well, else both TV and soundbar will produce audio. That will definitely cause weird sound coming out. We can definitely debug it. Please PM me and I'll help you fix this issue.

It's deliverable in Mumbai RD online and offline. Maybe try getting it shipped from here? The drive is 18 hours, so I'm sure that's not an option.

Try getting from mumbai RD to your hometown RD
RD usually ships within the state
go and contact your nearest RD store

RD refused getting the Tv from Hyderabad to me in its Bunglow Road, near kamla nagar ,Delhi Showroom and Flipkart also doesn't ship to my location

they usually ship within the state only and sometimes ship to other states on special request

Looks like Flipkart has received some stock. Last I checked it wasn't available at my hometown in Kerala but it is showing as available in small numbers today. I really wish I could check out a display piece before selecting it. I am also considering extending my budget to65k for the Frame 2020 (if the 55 inch is available at that price). I am not too keen on checking out the TU series of Samsung TVs but my parents are all for Samsung. Our current 32-inch series 5 Samsung LED has lasted 8 years of heavy-duty and is still running fine.

In the regular Samsung line, anything below Q70R or Q80T is not worth buying. The Frame is also an excellent option. But the TU series is a pretty bad range and not worth wasting money over.

As for reliability, it's all luck of the draw. 90% of the TVs which fail do it in the first 2-3 months of ownership. If you're past that period, 6-7 years is pretty easy to get out of the panel. All of the Hisense panels are also made by Samsung display only.

. I had 3 failed tvs which had the first failure after their warranty ended. 2 samsungs and a LG. Failure can happen any time without any reason.

Thanks.
I have tried Amazon basics optical out cable, may not be of that high quality. I will try some of the settings that you have mentioned.

They r assembling u7980 in india now? In flipkart page assembler is shown as Dixon india.

New owners can u check whether on box it is made in india? If they r assembling now in india then in few weeks, we can expect more units everywhere.

Also looks like u8080 is also going to be assembled in india. Do Flipkart/seller mention country of origin wrong?? Anyone who purchased u7980 previously from Flipkart remember country of origin mentioned in flipkart?

Yes, the country of origin was China and it showed exported and packaged by Hisense.

Thanks for the update. This is great news, because it means that we might be getting more of Hisense amazing products next year onwards too. I might snatch an H9G/H9H equivalent instead of an OLED next year if the price is right.

I have an avr which supports DTS HD and True HD and i tried playing a DTS HD movie on my tv through plex for firestick, but the sound was underwhelming. does the firestick support DTS HD or True HD through Plex? if not how can i watch movies stored on my pc wirelessly without losing audio quality?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
