Toshiba U79 and U80 Owners Discussion And Review !!

Sorry for my naivety. As per threads, Toshiba U79 is same as Hisense Q7F. But on Amazon, U79 is available for ~67k whereas Q7F is ~90k. Is there something I am missing or Q7F is equivalent to U8080 ?

U79(67k) is equivalent to Hisense H8F
U7QF(82k) is equivalent to Hisense H8G

H8G is 2020 model, H8F is 2019 model. Both are similar in terms of PQ, but the H8G has a better response time. So if you want a TV more geared for gaming/sports, it might be the better choice.

Neither of them even get close to U8080, as that's equivalent to H9G/U8QF. I personally don't see any value in getting the U7QF for anything close to 80k when the U8080 can be obtained at 95k.

Congrats. I'd suggest trying out my settings. I don't see the black crush issue you're talking about.

TV speakers are pretty average. I checked DV on internal Netflix app and HDR from Netflix app on Xbox. Cant tell any difference, at least to my eyes.

Agree, Dolby Atmos on the TV itself is pretty useless even when I fed it an Atmos signal. It seems to just be a useless toggle.
But I was able to get a much better audio quality when I used the Xbox's Atmos for Headphones plugin which downmixes an atmos signal into stereo. It's supposed to be used for headphones but I noticed that it made a huge difference for the TV speakers too.
My set was just delivered today morning. How can I verify that the product is unopened and factory sealed(boxed unit) and not opened before. As I can only see a normal transparent cellotape for the seal at the top with no watermarked seal or anything. Was it same for you?
Adding more, can I install it myself if I am to keep it on stand or it will affect the warranty and I should wait for technician to install it.

My TV box had tape and also the packing belts. I'm pretty sure your can't repackage the box once it's opened so you don't have to worry.
Also, you should be fine installing it yourself. Even Amazon sends a non brand affiliated installer. Keep the plastic cover on the TV and rest it facing down on iits box and then screw in the stands.

SPDIF is your optical cable. Also known as Toslink. Unless you're using a 5.1 channel system and need Dolby Atmos it's more than enough. And since it's optical, there will be much fewer compatibility issues since it works on everything.
Thanks for sharing the details..

The TV was delivered and installed. Amazon delivery team installed the TV at the time of delivery itself. No questions on alternates now.

Regarding the audio settings, found a setting to enable SPDIF only.. Have enabled it, but haven't tested it out yet.

Will go ahead and change the video settings as suggested by @fragpic and give my views.
initial views:

Video quality is really good. Had changed the video settings as suggested by @fragpic

Watching Netflix through Firestick 4k. Changed the colour depth to “upto 12 bits" from the default 8 bits.

Also, DV is enabled and picture mode is set to Dolby vision bright.

Also, my LG soundbar has a feature that allows me to control my soundbar volume through few TV remotes. Was not able to do so through the VU, but it apparently works with this TV, which helps reduce 1 remote for daily use.

@fragpic did you enable Game mode for the XBox? I tried using the HDR calibration software on XBox and it recommends enabling Game Mode before starting calibration.

I didn't use the inbuilt HDR calibration tool because it is meant to calibrate the Xbox and not the TV.
The game mode is to reduce input lag so I dont think it affects the calibration settings.
Since you have an Xbox, I would suggest you re run the calibration(for brightness, color and tint etc but keep the rest of the settings the same) since there would be some panel to panel differences.

Can you please elaborate on this?
The packing is similar to what you get for washing machines and refrigerators, where you remove the box from over the TV rather than take the TV out of the box. To re use the packaging, you would have to get new packing belts since you'd have to cut the existing ones to open the box.

Any news on U8080?

Any news on U8080?

If I get anything, I'll post it here. Also will post the review of U79, dimming zone count and everything tomorrow evening.

My personal TV purchase has been shifted to next year Q2/3 2021 since I don't see the vaccine arriving anytime soon, and I won't be able to move back to Bangalore till then.

As luck would have it... My 55 inch order got cancelled around 11:30 PM and thus I lost the chance of getting it with 4 years panel warranty.

Visited nearest Croma outlet with wife to check out how much big the 65 inch would look. Surprise... the 65 inch from 14ft would look normal and not extra large. So today I again placed the order for this TV but this time for 65 inch one. Also bought the Acko 1 year warranty. Delivery date given is Sat and installation on Sun. I hope this thing proves to be as good as my Panasonic plasma !!!!

Did anyone tried playing a 4K HDR remux file? Does it play high BIT rate content properly and formats like MKV?

I have a bunch of 4k HDR REMUX(H.265 main 10) files. Will try playing them after the install tomorrow with Plex. 99.99% it should be fine since higher bitrate is actually easier to play due to less compression.

Also, MKV is the most common container. Anything (and I literally mean anything) sold in last 4-5 years should play that.
