Vinyl I am listening to...

Dear Malvai,
Go to their site, click ADVANCED SEARCH. You will see a window asking for title, artist etc. Go to FORMAT and click LP. It will lead to you to LP page.
Or try this Rhythm House Advanced Search

You can also click on `showcase' button and you will get the page `BACK TO VINYL- Original albums in 180-gram vinyl' and all their LP's are listed.
I recently ordered Pink Floyd (Dark side of the moon)and their packing was very good.

Acoustic Sound is selling Neil Young "Harvest" for 35 dollars and after adding postage, which i found works out to 18-20 dollars per record, you will end up with the price of 53 dollars a record which is roughly 2500 rupees whereas the same is being sold for Rs.995 at Rhythm House, Mumbai.

Do you know which version of Harvest they are selling? They just reissued it (the $35 one) to include the original textured cover, inner poster, and its on 180 gm. As far as I've seen, all the Neil Young records in Rhythm House are the German pressed ones, which are def not 180gm.

Also, does anyone know where else in Bombay to buy new records besides Rhythm House? They haven't had any new stuff in a few weeks and I'm getting the itch :)

it's a normal pressing but it sounds beautiful and pretty queit too.

I just picked up the Mono re-issue of "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys. It sounds so amazing! It's a 180gm pressing. They've completely recreated the '66 version, including the inner sleeve.

Worth picking up.. other records I've bought since they started selling them here are:

Let It Be - The Beatles : I wouldn't recommend buying any of the Beatles LP's that are out since they are made from the '87 remixes, which are the same ones used on the first CD's that came out... you would be better off finding an older copy in good condition, or wait for the reissue from the master tapes.

Neil Young - American Stars and Bars / After the Goldrush : Wasn't too impressed with the packaging of ATG, but it sounded decent. ASAB on the otherhand sounds awesome! It also has the original inner sleeve which ATG doesnt (doesn't have the lyrics either)

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks : One of the best albums ever and it sounds superb in this 180gm reissue. Highly recommended!

Right now listening to: GERRY MULLIGAN with CHET BAKER - MY FUNNY VALENTINE : Fontana Jazz , 1960 mono pressing .

I think, in most cases record prices in India are cheaper compare to Acoustic Sound and Amazon. Same is with Eric Clapton's "Reptile". Acoustic Sound price 30 dollars + 18 dollars = 48 dollars (approx 1900 rupees). Rhythm house price Rs.1295.
One more example, a box set of The Doors consisting of 7 records of 180 gram vinyl is priced at 250 dollars at Acoustic Sound. This box set is so heavy im sure you will end up paying some 100-150 dollars extra for shipping. I got the same box set for Rs.4990 from Rhythm House.
Hope this helps.

You are absolutely right. I checked out with Absolute Sound and with shipping the cost will be $50. Not worth ordering from there. Imagine paying more than half the price on just shipping costs:sad:. Need to rethink my strategy.

Sorry, typo in my post. It should read Acousticsounds instead of 'Absolute Sound'

If anyone on the board is into Indie/Alternative Rock (even some classic rock and electronic), I suggest checking out Insound.com. They give a 10% discount on international orders, so sometimes you don't end up paying any shipping at all. Their stuff reaches me in almost exactly 2 weeks every time so far.

Donald Fagen - Morph The Cat
Just git it from Rhythm House!
Lovely service. Lovely Vinyl. 180g, RTI version! Sounds waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than the CD!

Shaizada, you are turning into an avid collector of jazz :)

I always was my friend :)

Just now that I've gotten into vinyl so much, jazz just works for me so well. It's a seductive and meditative experience at the same time.

I've been painting a new house by myself for the past few days and it's hell a lot of work. About 8 hours of say everyday and then I come home all tired. Wife makes me some chai, I settle down and listen. I select some choice LP's and lose myself in the sound. Body sore, but heart and mind are thriving.

I'm good to go the next morning all rejuvenated! :)

Lucky you have an understanding wife who leaves you with your music :).
I am also lucky in this regard. My wife never bothers me with my music but she always advice me not to spend more on upgradation:)

Lets say this....my VPI purchase last year was a gift from my wife for my Birthday (though I was paying for it indirectly ;)). She leaves me alone for small audio purchases (anything under a $1k), but we have to "discuss" larger purchases to see if they are feasible or not. But thats all a moot point now as I've very well settled with my current gear and setup. It is very musical satisfying for me now...

By the way, I have to balance the time very carefully. She can turn vicious in a heartbeat if I don't spend enough time with her. Nowadays she is good since I am working my ass off painting the house. I'm tired and need music at the end of the day...so she understands :)

Definitely good to have an understanding wife. Otherwise, life could very easily become miserable for musically obsessed people like ourselves! LoL
