Vinyl I am listening to...

talking about The Burning Train, I read somewhere that Asha considers the song Meri Nazar Hai Tujh Pe to be one of the most difficult ones which she has performed, in her career.

Reuben, it could be true. The song situation is something like two actors Hema Malini (in Indian attire and desi style) and Parveen Babi (Western attire and bideshi style) are performing together in same stage.

Hence the voice modulation and music were constantly shifting focus between Indian and Western style and acts. Therefore the rendition would have been difficult for Asha Bhosle and as a result we got nice stereo separation.

I have this Tamil version LP (Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum) which pressed in Malaysia for Malaysian market and sounding very good.

Thank you Selvin. As I keep anything and everything related to R.D.Burman, would it be possible to share the Tamil version over ftp or Google drive. Please let me know.

My request,

Sourav

Would anyone know if the mono eps of the Electronically Processed Stereo Lps are original mono or a stereo mix down?

Hi Prem,

My wild guess is that the master recording were mono for ERS releases as the ultimate deployment was to fit in movie track which was definitely mono.

The mono recordings were then re-processed to ERS as the nomenclature suggests. Hence we can assume the SP could be mono which is a straight copy paste from mono masters.

But other opinion is that when we listen to made in UK ACDs of those ERS tracks, we listen the ERS (hollow) effect only. This makes me thinking.

Others please weigh in.

My 2 cents,
Sourav

Agreed Souravin. The master recording was definitely mono. The question is whether the EP/SP were made from this master or was it a mix down from the ERS master? The ERS master would definitely have been approved by the concerned music director.

I can vouch for Madhosh, Double Cross, Shehzaada, Namak Haram, Yadoon Ki Baraat, Jaise Ko Taisa, Rickshawalla, Jheel Ke Us Paar et.al for their MONO SPs while the Super Seven and LPs were ERS.

This opinion is based on my entry level set up.

Thanks,
Sourav

Hi Souravin, I have only heard Madhosh from your list. Yes, Madhosh SP sounds good but I have not heard the Lp. Recently I heard Manoranjan and Samadhi SP. Samadhi SP was far superior to the Manoranjan one. The density and emotion was there. The Manoranjan SP did not have the same density or emotion which made me wonder if it was a stereo mix down

Hi,
Was Madhosh ever released in LP format? I don't think so. Only EP (mono), SP (mono), and Super 7 (EPS). The mono sound was far superior than that on the Super 7.
Among the Pancham Super 7s, I find Shehzada and Jaise Ko Taisa to be slightly better than the rest. The worst was, IMO, Hifazat (did it have a mono SP release?).

Hello Sourav,

First, I am not sure the tracks of Tamil version is same one of Hindi version or not. The Tamil remake music composed by Dakshinamurthi. As per wiki most of the tracks are same tune.

Second I don't have any analog to digital converter to convert & share. If you want I can record in a new cassette through my Nakamichi and courier to you.

As a collector if you badly needed, I am happy to gift the LP to You :).

Wow Selvin. That is really a gift to me. I can listen to the cassette in my NAK 480. And LP will be a blessing to me.

I am cherishing the other gift received from you.

Thanks in advance.

Wow!. Her "Fast car" was huge hit during my college days.
Her "Fast car" and "Don't worry be happy of Bobby mcferrin", were in same Grammy year and won awards.

Yes , not just Fast Car, there are several other songs in this album which make good listening : talking about the revolution and baby can I hold you for instance.

Regards.
