What watch do you wear?

I think you are right.

It is much easier to discretely check out the time on a wristwatch --- although, these days, I guess it is accepted we have to look at their cell phone once every three minutes.

On my previous phone, it was not so easy: on my current phone it is, although I have to press the power switch to bring the screen to life.

I have worn the following watches till now in ascending order,

1. ROAMER ( 1981)
2. TIMESTAR (1985)
3. TITAN (1993 till Current)
4. ALBA (2007 till current)

obviously 3 & 4 is swapped depending upon mood.

These are the one's I wear mostly, both gifted as performance incentive from office ;)

Some gentlemen here have great taste and collection

If you are a man and want your watch to reflect your style and class - there are only 2 watches for you ... Rolex and Omega.

Rolex and omega are considered style and class? i don't think so, these days both these brands are mostly mass produced watches which don't have anything special or unique about them.

The watches i have.

Omega de ville co-axial chronometer

Rado Couple large

Seiko velatura kinetic direct drive

Seiko premier kinetic chronograph

Orient Power Reserve Automatic Worldtime

Dream watch i want to buy if i had the money.

Opus 9

How come this kinda similarity .........first, Sony SSS440 and now, Roamer ... for Christ's sake! Destiny, I guess!

The Roamer was gifted to me by my aunty when i entered my SSC board exam.

The SSS440. TA-AX44, TC-FX44 was gifted to me by my elder brother when i entered my Engineering degree.

Do you have similar incidence.

Roamer .... handed down to me, belonged to my late grandfather.

Sonys .... bought myself in 1988 .... first job (accumulated pay). Remember the entire thing ... Amp + Cassette deck + speakers costing 10.5K from Sony Orson showroom at Basant Lok market in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi.

My elder brother was working with Sony Orson and they were offering huge discount as they were closing down operations in the mid-80s. Hence i paid only around Rs.5.5K for the entire set (Deck, Amp & Speakers). The Amp is still being used by me and was demoed to you during your visit. A very rugged amp i would say with the kind of abuse i have thrown to it and rock steady since past 28 years.

I keep asking myself, do i require a expensive watch, nevertheless to move with elite presence is necessary

genuine watches
Omega ltd edition 007 automatic
panerai automatic
Cerruti quartz
Watch Winder.

Daily wear Seiko Monster ltd EDT, very rugged

Fake watches
None.

just as my junking vinyl rig, automatic's are not convenience.

Oak

I wear a handwound hmt pocket watch at times. Love it. Otherwise, for me, a watch is just a means of getting to know the time. So one wears a couple of citizen's eco-drive watches or none at all. BTW, the hmt is the first analog watch that I have ever bought for myself. Howzat, eh?

sightly differ with your opinion,
Swiss watches still command the presence of class & presence.

There are cultural nuances associated with owning a watch. It is well known that Asian/Chinese invest in expensive watches - when I say expensive I am talking about 7000+ USD. Most regular Americans wouldnt care for spending sums like this on a watch. However, they see much better value in a 1000 USD Omega or a Tag.

In Hyd, most women from the elite class would like to be seen in a Omega constellation and its jewelled variations. Evidently this particular model has a high cachet in those circles.

A Rolex Perpetual Datejust represented the quintessential Swiss watch for decades in the Rayalseema reqion. It was synonymous with a Swiss watch, they werent aware of any other brands.

You will also notice that the bright golden RADO Aqua is the favorite with middle aged men in India. Yep, no other watch will do. Personally, I thought this as a very gaudy watch earlier. But in a more understated avatar, it is a very classy design and I would mind owning one myself.

I like Swiss watches too, just that I am happy withe Swatch Irony models so much, I have been collecting.

Parties every night, eh? Looky at the time of report entry ..
Lucky you!

Heh heh, Nice thoughts, Aatishda, but I am sorry to say that most of OUR parties
(as I am sure FMs C***rajesh and Ashokhifi would vouch for)
are a terrible pain in the wrong place. That night, however was different as I came back from a long-lost-pals'-reunion kind of bash.

And since I kind of had these thoughts of having been away from HFV for long (and attempting to make up for lost time), I decided to have a look at the unread posts. Thats when I came across this thread and decided to post here.
Thats that, mate.

Coming back from OT, I opine that there is a kind of old world charm to winding a watch/alarm clock. I do remember my folks doing so at the commencement of the DD news signature tune or the AIR tune. Sigh!

Where have the good times gone? Even nostalgia isnt what it used to be, huh?
