Yamaha AVR owners thread

Hello everybody,

Went on to register my month old Yamaha RXV671 on their website and found that my AVR is in need of a firmware upgrade. Downloaded the file ( zipped ). Can anyone please guide me how to actually upgrade the AVR ?

Once done YAPO,go to manual setting where same YAPO results are shown, now you can change the CO to 120Hzs.

Thanks Spiro will do the same.

Now at present I have connected the RCA single cable between my 571 receiver's to Jamo sub's left RCA input. But the subwoofer has another RCA input called "Right" do I need to connect it as well like a single RCA plug from the receiver to the split (2) RCA plugs to the sub to get the desired results. When I connected as told by the dealer to the left input on the sub I see that the sub is playing fine, but was just curious do I need to do something else to connect the right input as well.

Thanks

some people connect 'Y' connector to increase gain, otherwise there is no difference.

Hi Guys,
I am getting myself a Yamaha Rx-V710 in about a weeks time can the wise please guide me in couple of things

1. The step down transformer requirement (Wattage etc) since this one is being brought in from us (Am glad that the wattage is at least better than Asian's )
2. The cables that I have to buy for
a) to connect to my Plasma TV (HDMI already have)
b) to connect to floor standers that I am gona buy in probably another months time
c) the gauges for the cables for a subwoofer (Old Sony HTs that'll be used as of now)
b) Also gauges for the floorstanders
e) also since I am gettin the receiver from the avenue sounds.in people do I need to pay extra for the stepdown transformer if so how much because they were quoting about 4-5k for 1KW one :(

P.S would gladly accept any information for the choice of speakers to go with the receiver my Hall size is 30x18 ft & am going to use the system for both Music and movies 50/50

You can connect the AVR to the Internet via your Router/modem and thats one way.
The other is through USB like you have done.

Yes you wd need to update or at least check if there is a new update available for the AVR as by the time the equipment gets manufactured, sent to US and imported to India sufficient time goes by and firmware updates are available. Unlike firmware upgrades in PC programmes the upgrades in AVR are always beneficial though you can always go back to factory settings in case something goes wrong.

Ideally if you are going in for a networked AVR like the A710 it should be connected with by ethernet wire to your router. I am not sure if the 710 is wifi ready as the 671 isnt. I have created a LAN in combination with my PC.

Btw you were importing your AVR through some friend but now you are buying it through Avenue? Any particular reason for the change?

Not a problem I already have a cable ready will be doing the Firmware update as soon as I get my hands on it :D and Nope it is not Wifi enabled by default hmmm Am just apprehensive as to how am I gona handle the entire setup...!! dont know scratch of a component home audio system build.. :( am learning alphabets now ....

Also any suggestions for the speakers.. i dont know how much should I invest I will save up if I feel its worth.... heard to a Klipsch RF-62 and fell in love with the horn loaded tweeters as both into bass n treble they sounded better than the F30s that I heard in a store

Dont worry, it would be a breeze and you would have fun DIY. I didnt have any clue when I got my AVR and I asked lots of questions on forums. The kind folks here helped me out and we would again do the same for you. Make sure you have the AVR seutp CD running side by side on your comp when you are setting it up. The CD is quite thorough and you would have no problem in getting the setup running in no time.
While you are connecting the wire to the speakers make sure the two naked ends dont meet.

As for the speaker suggestion..well I have only one recommendation- The Pioneer 51 FS. These are the ones I am using and nothing comes close to them at this price point. They shd cost you 43k. Or if you want to stagger your speaker purchase then go in for the Monitor Audio RX6. Aman Singh from Avenue told me that they are providing discount on those speakers at the moment. His no is 08898153922.

Cheers !

ummm naked ends.. of.... cable ??? even when the cable is only connected to speakers ???? and 1 more thing.. I wanted to ask abt all those ABSOLUTE NO NOs... like.. was reading somewhere if the speakers were plugged into ...speaker level <I:ohyeah: think correct me if I am wrong> then the AVR might blow up a transistor ... and thanks alot MAV ...was asking people on another thread and there was lill delay in response and I ordered a 710//// would v probably ordered an 810 by the knowledge i have now :(( or even a 667

I just listened to them once. was planning on getting the front Floorstanders first.. whadya say??? too bright ? and 15 awg eh.. gotchya thanx!!!for the cables...

Klipsh speakers sounds good with music, but with movies they can sound bright or edgy.Do proper audition.

Ok.. done. will go this weekend to s place referred by another audiophile and get some real good auditions. Would surely wana pair Yamaha with Klipsch .. on a very related note.. If 1 receiver model of a manufacturers A is bright with 1 set of speakers of manufacturer B does that mean any receiver of A is gona be bright and edgy with any speakers from B ???
<Just asking though it looks like a very noobish question>

Its just system matching. Some speakers are bright sounding & some warm.Tannoy mercury are a bit warm sounding & klipsch as bright.Jamo are again warm.Yamaha is a natural sounding AVR & you can judge easily if you pair Yamaha to different speaker brands.

I happen to visit Cinebels in Hyderabad for an audition of Jamo and coincidentally they also had Klipsch in their store and after listening to Jamo 606/608 & Klipsch F-30s, F 20s and then RF-52s, Found out that RF-52s were way better in bass reproduction so was thinking ..but the receiver is not a Yamaha anyways that made me wonder .. about speakers compatibility :(

The Klipschs F30s etc.. synergy series were quite different in LFE reproduction when compared to the RF series

Thanks for the info. Can u also tell me what would be the ideal impedance setting on RXV671 for use with MS Aviano 6+5+1? 8 ohms or 6 ohms? I switched from 8 to 6 and felt the AVR heating a little more than on the 8 ohms setting. I felt the SQ and output better @ 6 ohms setting. What do the experts say?

Hey Vivek.. wanted to know what do u feel about the Aviano 6 s along with the Yamaha ?? and also did u try your receiver with any other speakers ??

Aviano6 sound great with the 671, tried it with Wharfs diamond 9.5 too and found the wharfs to be a tad too warm. The 671 is a very bright AVR, so trying out various speaker placements and settings to achieve ideal SQ.

Ok.. thanks a lot for that info.. now I have another Q.... U said 671 is a very bright receiver.. does that mean each receiver varies in that perspective ???

I guess you finished the YPAO settings and then started the manual config/settings ...
