Yamaha AVR owners thread

Hello everyone,

I recently (1month back) bought RX-V671 from Darty in France during my business trip, it was working fine till last nite. It's not powering on now, but the Pure direct light glows.

Now my question,
1 - Is my 671 bought is france is covered under warranty in India, i have the bill and warranty card
2 - Any others having the same problem, i understand from the trouble shooting sheet in the manual, the system gets disabled when the Protection circuit has been activated 3 times consecutively - can some one expalin about this ???

1.It is not covered in India.
2.I can be recovered by doing factory setting perhaps.

Remove all speaker connections.
When you power on the unit,Hold straight & main zone button(on unit & not remote) at the same time& you should see advance setup. Then you press Program button till you see"INIT".Its cancel as default. Now select "CLEAR"by pressing staight.Once you got it,press main Zone button.

Now check if it works & let us know.

@ckmraja, please read this thread from start. IIRC, a forum member has previously posted a solution for a similar shutdown problem he faced.

From avsforum

Problem:
As a safety precaution, when the protection circuitry operates 3 times consequently, the capability to turn on the power is disabled.

Solution (according to Yamaha service):
Plug the power cord out. Plug it back in.
Press the following three buttons at the same time for 5 seconds: Main Zone + Info + Tone Control
The receiver will open.
He suggested also to set the device back in the factory defaults by picking "S3-Factory Preset" and changing "PRESET INH" to "RSRV". I actually didnt set it back to factory defaults.

Also, don't try to push the three buttons at exactly the same time, press Info and Tone Control first and keep them held, then press and hold the main power button last and keep all three held for 5 seconds until it turns on.

Can someone tell the difference between "Direct" button on (say) RX-V471/571 &
"Pure Direct" button on RX-V 671 panel.

There is Straight & Pure direct buttons on Yamaha 671.Straight just Bypass DSP,but Bass management, speaker configration works.
With Pure direct, the channels are directed towards DAC of respective one & plays as recorded in original track. Also front panel display goes off.

Yes I use the Direct option to listen to FM radio and stereo music. It is very good and simply superb. I use the Straight option when playing movies either via blu-ray player or htpc.

Thanks

hi folks,

Just trying to understand the ambigous specs of RX-V 471 Vs RX-V671.
RX-V 471 -> Rated Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) = 105W (6ohms, 0.9% THD)
RX-V671 -> Rated Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) = 150W (4ohms, 0.9% THD); 125W (8ohms, 0.9% THD)

Comparing the 2 specs, Can I take a simple average of 671 spec = (150W+125W)/2 = 137.5 W in (4 ohm+8ohms)/2 = 6 ohm.

Finally, Can we say that w.r.t. 471 The 671 AVR has Rated Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) = 137.5W (6ohms, 0.9% THD)

Another Query, Assuming the above as correct, How much difference this extra 30 Watt would make in SQ ? Lastly, Hows your exp. w/ V-Tuner in india?
I know Napster / Pandora do not offer subscriptions in India.

always check specifications with all ch driven with full frequency response for same impedance. Then you can compare.

Hi,
Would like to give an update on the issue i mentioned earlier,

Tried the way as suggested by fellow members from HIFIVISION, could not solve the problem.

Took the RX-V671 to the Anubhav Electronics - Authorised Service center in Chennai, after two days i was told that the Main Power Board has gone, which needs to be replaced.

Also they said that products purchased outside India is not covered under warranty. The cost for replacing the faulty Main Power board is around 8500 rs.

Can anyone suggest the price mentioned is OK, the lead time for getting the board from Mumbai is 10 days.

Also does anyone know the board model no by which we can find to buy this board outside. Is this possible.

My 671 went into protection mode and I searched the net for the solutions but none worked.
Above procedure quoted by you only worked and the system came back to life today.
Thanks for the information

@ vktyagi, I'm trying to find the procedure which u mentioned worked (RX-V671) for you, can you please let me know the same

^^ This is quoted from the avsforum link I posted above:

My rx-v687 AV Reciever has turned off and I can't turn it on again. what can I do?

Found it! Here it is(post#896);

@ baijuxavior, thanks and i tried this method still i didn work. Hence gave to Yamaha Authorised Service Centre in Chennai.

Today i was called and told the Cost of the main power board is around 20k Inr, and it would take 3 months to get the replacement board from Yamaha

I can't really understand, wat's going on. I bought this 671 for only 28K inr from France, and hardly used for 2 months

How to proceed on this, can i take this case legally with Yamaha - seek fellow members advise

Hi all, I had a rxv671 for a while with me and I was using my old sony mhc rv555's speakers with the avr. I have been visiting shops around bangalore to find a good bs for my avr (I only use it to listen to music and have it in my bedroom away from TV) and saw/heard a few that the shops had for demo. I had decided on either kef q300 or Usher v601 and went to buy a usher v601 after reading excellent reviews from around here and went to ARN, heard the speakers and it was good. I could have bought it but while billing their c.card reader was not working and I told them I will come and get it on Saturday. Back in the office, one of my colleague had mentioned me about her friends shop which was few minutes away from my office. Long story short, I bought elac fs57.2. I have been listening to few speakers they had (energy, onkyo, klipsch) and my previous shortlists. My ears did not find the elac fs any bad compared to them (those were affordable to me) and I felt they were better in low frequency response. But once I reach home I found that the speaker's nominal impedance is 4 ohms and the avr has 8 ohms. I remember while fiddling with settings when I got the avr first, that there was some settings where I can specify the speaker impedance in the receiver (not sure if I saw that, just remember seeing something along that line). After reading the old posts here, I have come to a conclusion that my best bet is to not increase the volume to higher levels. I have a couple of questions.

1) Can I just be careful with the volume level and feel safe about using the 4 ohm speakers ? I see some other fm had set the maximum volume threshold to some value. if so what would be a safe upper limit for volume ?
2) Are there some affordable options like Autoformers offered by ZeroImpedance- Improve your speaker sound quality with the use of an autoformer.
3) What is the general view on elac speakers here around the form with yamaha receivers.

I have a 571 receiver but never tried to connect my 4 ohms sony speakers to them. When I read the manual I came to know that this option of changing the ohms is present only in the US based models and not rest of the world. It is best not to connect 4 ohms thats what I came to know going thru various forums including hifivision. Even with 6 ohms I never tried to raise the volume.

Thanks

Thanks manniraj. I did buy my avr from US. I have had speakers that were 6 ohms for a while. This was even lower at 4 ohms, on the elac. I cannot change the speakers now and I am using it for now. I never had increased the volume to extremes (max was -20db, but just to check I usually listen at -35/-40). Hope if I keep it at lower volumes there will be no danger.
