Yamaha AVR owners thread

Yamaha Scene Buttons not storing Sur Decode Mode

Hi All
I have a question on the scene buttons in my Yamaha RX V475. They cannot store the Sur decode option for a particular scene such as BD/DVD watching or music. For example, I would like the AVR to automatically power on and select DD ProLogic when I press the BD/DVD scene button. Similarly, on pressing lets say the NET scene button, I would like the AVR to power on using DDPLII music. I see that it keeps defaulting to the last used Sur Decode mode when the AVR is swithched off and powered on again. Is this an omission by Yamaha? If so, this is huge especially for amateur users like my wife who only use the scene buttons hoping for the correct sound settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Harsha

Friends..
Last wk i saw a demo for jamo FS with Denon x500. What a poor quality in sound i have ever experienced.
But now i zeroed with two FS for my yht299.
1. Dali Zensor 5
2. Mission m34i
I need to know the cost of these FS'. If anyone knows the price, please inform me.
ThanX
Elango.

Yht 2910 and 299 not available with reliance digital or vijay sales near my area( Borivali, Mumbai) can anyone suggest any other authorized dealer?

Available on eBay india , but worried about support and warranty so not going for it.

Also can someone provide Yamaha support numbers? Want to verify with Yamaha itself for Yamaha product bought online from unauthorized dealer. The dealer says he will give original bill with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

I called the Authorised Service Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai and they clearly said that they will not provide the service or installation support. However, this authorised service centre is an electronic shop also and they also sell Yamaha 2910. I am getting it online for 39250 from ebay whereas this shop is offering it for 41k. So I am going to visit the shop tomorrow and checkout.

I am a bit concerned about the supports by these international brands because I have a bad experience. I had purchased Sony Bravia from Bangkok and Sony India was not ready for installation support even. Not even paid support  They were not ready to even share any kind of information as they said they are not allowed to.

Friends,

I have an issue in my HT system. My AVR (Yamaha RX V565) is not detecting front speakers and no audio from FS. There is no sound also when I choose Straight/Direct mode. I have did following things;
1. Check wires -it is OK
2. Run YAPO, it fails to detect FS.
3. Check setup, configuration, level - it is OK. increase volume level from level no success.
4. Factory reset the AVR- no success
5. Change the wire and speaker (replace FS with SR) - no success

Pls share/help, if you have any idea.

I have bought a brand new Yamaha Aventage Receiver from USA and I stay in Mumbai. The model number is RX-A840.

When i bought it in US, i had tried starting the receiver and it used to work. The power specifications behind the receiver were mentioned as 400W.

Currently I am in Mumbai, India and I bought a 110 step down converter from a local electricals store and got it tested that it gives 110 as output. The step down converter is capable of handling 500W. The step down converter was tested to give output of 110V at the shop while buying.

I plugged my step down converter to spike guard and the moment i turned on the button in wall unit, there was quite a bit of sound (**At this point of time, the AV receiver was still not connected with Step Down converter).

The Step down converter, still continued to show the red LEd light, indicating that it is working properly.

Then I connected AV receiver to step down converter and was trying to start it, but it was not turning up. The pure direct button when pressed was showing blue light when button was pressed, but later on even that stopped working.

After briefly reading this thread, it seems to me that i have also encountered the protection mode problem (my guesstimate). I haven't found any concrete solution from the posts read so far and hence bit worried, as it is a brand new receiver and I haven't used it even once (except from turning it on in US).

Appreciate if anyone can provide the solution to the problem.

What is the make of the transformer?Do you have a Voltmeter to check its output now.
Suggest that you take your AVR and Transformer to the shop and check the Transformer's output Voltage while the AVR is plugged in to the transformer and switched on.

The sound from the transformer when switched on happens to my MX transformer also.

The LED or the Power indicator should have lighted up before you switched over to the Pure Direct mode.

Hi Jagdish,

Thanks for replying.

Before using the transformer, I did check the output of transformer, it was 110v. Post this incidence, I would again go back to the shop and get the transformer checked again. Apart from 110v output, is there anything else we should check (like ampere and all)

The power consumption behind the receiver is 400W, i had bought a 500W transformer. Today I am going to replace it with a higher wattage transformer ... preferably 750 or 1000.

I just hope it turns on, as I haven't used it even once.

Hi Manish,

500W for 400W consumption is too low. Ideally it should be 400x1.44x2W. You should go for a 1000VA or 1KVA transformer.

Hi Nishant,

I have orderd for 1 KVA, which I may receive on Friday. Lets hope that it works out.

Would post the updates on the forum. I hope, that due to low voltage, is should not have affected my AVR, as I have tried starting it couple number of times.

But if I apply the calculation logic you provided, I am currently using a 250W transformer (same company i.e. Maru) for my PS3 and it works absolutely fine. I am using it since last 5 years. When I googled the power consumption of PS3, it is also around 250W. So going by the logic, ideally even PS3 should not have worked with 250W transformer.

Thanks and Regards,

Didnt want to start a seperate thread so asking here itself..

I am getting the Polk audio TL1600 and Yamaha 577 amp through a relative in Dubai delivered to me in Pune on Wednesday :):):yahoo:

Kindly let me know how to attach / install the following :.

1. Sony W700B TV (has HDMI arc port)
2. Playstation3
3. Tata sky hd box

I would specially like the tv output to come through the home theatre only.

How best do I use the wifi service ? what is its benefit ?

You can connect PS3 and Tatasy HD separately with HDMI cables(HDMI1 & HDMI2),let AVR decode the sound.AVR video out to Sony HDTV.
Here you can enable ARC in TV and Yamaha AVR.ARC will be useful if you are playing something of TV(say USB).
If you dont want to use AVR during Tatasky, you can enable standby pass through in AVR and enjoy both audio video from TV.

I tried with 750 watt step down converter, but was unable to start the Yamaha RX-A840 AV receiver, trying with 1 KV step down converter is my last resort.

Can anyone suggest, from where can i get this start up problem resolved, are there any yamaha service centers .. how much charges do they take etc.

Since I have bought this in US and it has 3 years warranty, but that would not be valid in India. Has anyone faced such problems before, if yes, then would appreciate to suggest the steps taken to resolve it.
