Yamaha AVR owners thread

May I ask for some help with HC systems right here?

My home cinema room is pretty small. 4x4 meters (13x13 feet).

For more than 10 years I have been using Harman Kardon AVR130 + Infinity Primus HCS 5.1. My receiver died couple of months ago, so I've bought replacement in Yamaha V377. Thinking behind Yamaha was - room is small, I don't need very powerful receiver and.. it's supposed to be very good in this price range. It even got some awards.

But right now I'm redecorating my room, Yamaha is still in the original box, I'm on TV speakers right now.

And yes, since I'm redecorating room, Infinities due to size doesn't fit anymore and to acommodate them the whole room would look weird to say at least.

So I'm looking to buy smaller speakers but to work well with V377. I guess wireless surround speakers are out of the question if I want decent quality?

Any idea?

Thank you so much!

Hi Experts

I am about to buy Yamaha RX-V477 with one of the below mentioned speakers package. I am extremely confused to finalize, please need your suggestions:

AVR: YAMAHA RXV477

Speaker package 1 (costs around 80K):
FS: Polk Audio TSx440t
C: Polk Audio TSx250c
S: Polk Audio TSx220B
SW: BIC America F12

Speaker Package 2:
Pioneer Andrew Jones series AJ-8235XT.

I have auditioned Polk speakers with Yamaha 477, it was mind blowing. Am not sure about AJ as am unable to find it in Chennai. Because of the great reviews on pioneer AJ series, I would like to go with them. Currently I can get it for Rs.39K using online purchase, but I heard no warranty if it is purchased through internet/not through dealers.

Kindly suggest whether I can go with online purchase or should I get it through authorized dealers!

Thank you.

If you liked polks, then thats good choice.Still 477 can be under powered AVR.AJ speakers will match well with Yamaha 477,but blind buy may not be wise decision. In real world,Yamaha matches with AJ speakers though.

Thanks spirovious for your quick suggestion!

What my concern is, the AJ series subwoofer(8") would be adequate for my 12(w) x 24(l) living room?

also will it be a warranty issue if I buy through online?

Yamaha AVR owners thread; Remote functionality problem

Dear Members,
I am facing some software problem in operating my RX-V 674 through the remote. Problem is like this :
1. The system either fails to respond to the remote or takes too much time to respond.
2. Once a button is pressed the action does not stop even after I stop pressing the button. e.g. I press volume up button for a moment but volume keeps increasing until it reaches maximum or the key is pressed again.
The system is working normally when the button on the AVR are used instead of the remote buttons.
Can some one please help.
Regards

Its small SW,may not be enough for that room size.

Suitable speakers for Yamaha RX-V477 AVR

Hello All,

Apologies in advance to mmaran for using his thread for clarifying my query - thought better to link my query here as I already have a Yamaha RX-V477 AVR.

So, I am looking for a suitable 5.1 speaker system for my Yamaha RX-V477.
Its an apartment and my living room is 12 X 12 - but without any wall on one side and effectively living room is extending to the separate dining area. I guess my usage of system would be 70% for movie and 30% for music.

Budget I have is around 35k INR. I am not sure if bookshelf speakers will fit in my budget or will it be an overkill for my room space. Due to the space constraints I have ruled out the tower speakers.

I have been going through the wealth of information around and have short-listed a few that I guess fits the bill in terms of budget as well as my requirements.

1. Boston Acoustics A2310HTS
(Boston Acoustics A 2310HTS Home Theater Speaker Package (Black Finish)) around 36K INR

This has received better reviews. Also I saw good reviews on BA as well as Polk as they have 2 way drivers (separate tweeter and mid-range) instead of full-range/single driver.

2. BA Soundware S 5.1 HTS
(Boston Acoustics SoundWare S 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System) around 33K INR

3. Wharfedale Moviestar MS-100 HCP 5.1
(Wharfedale Moviestar MS-100 HCP 5.1 Home Theatre Cinema Package) around 34k INR

4. Polkaudio RM 6750
(Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System - Black Speaker Price in India & Specifications) approx 31k INR

A few comments I noticed for this model is related to its Subwoofer. General opinion is that the subwoofer of 6750 lacks punch and many people replace it, if possible, with a better one from Polk.

I am in Bangalore and I am yet to audition any of these systems. I would be grateful if anyone can provide me with the below inputs

1. Advise if the above short-listed ones are feasible in terms of pairing with Yamaha RX-V477 and adequate for my usage indicated earlier.

2. Any other options I can explore within the budget of 35k INR that goes well with AVR

3. Any pointers on where I can audition these?

I got in touch with Reference Point, Indiranagar for BA - They don't have BA 2310 but have a model thats a predecessor of 2310. They dont keep Polk or WharfeDale. I know that Pro-FX keeps Polk - thats one place I intend to go. Also spoke with Uniquesys, Marathalli. They dont have any of my shortlisted ones but have Paradigm.

I am looking to finalise very soon, It would be great to hear your thoughts!!

Thanks much in advance.

Hi,

Please share if any Yamaha owners are using rx-v4xx AVR with Wharfedale diamond series bookshelf.
How is the overall performance for Movies/Music?
Will the RX-V4xx series AVR drive diamond bookshelf easily?
(As per the spec the sensitivity of these speakers are on lower side 86db.)
Is there any other speaker i should demo within 20k-25k?
I do not want to go for 5.1 satellite based system due to inclination towards music and so prefer bookshelf to start.

Considering Diamond 220 fronts and Yamaha RX-V477.
If a step up in power is needed the next is only RX-V677 which is way out of my budget.

Please help.

Yamaha matches with wharfedale well.Over all sound warm and enjoyable in HT.
I have used wharf diamond speakers with Yamaha.

I have auditioned Polk 6750 and didn't like it at all. The sound is thin and didn't feel like filling the room. All other three have equally good reviews. Try to audition and buy whichever suits your budget/likes.
