Yamaha AVR owners thread

Came across this review of RX-V477 in referencehometheater and sharing here.

Yamaha RX-V477 Receiver Review - Reference Home Theater

There is a useful benchmarking section at the end which shows the real time power measurements and frequency response graph.

The below is the power output comparison given for 8ohms and 4ohms load.

"Driving an 8 ohm load in stereo, the Yamaha RX-V477 produces 96 watts of power before it hits 0.1% THD+N. When driving a 4 ohm load this falls down to 47 watts of power before 0.1% THD+N. Because of this the Yamaha RX-V477 should not be used with demanding 4 ohm speaker loads, as the amplifier section falls in power quickly.
On the Audio Precision, the Yamaha RX-V477 performs very well for the price. It isnt recommended for 4 ohm speakers, but with 8 ohm speakers is will perform well"

Hi,
I am currently using Yamaha Rx-450 for my PSB T5 speakers and SVS sub, planning to upgrade AVR due to lack on other inputs and sound... Any one using Yamaha updated avr with PSB speakers ...

Thanks

Anybody using Yamaha Rx V1600.
I am not having the remote and need to change the settings of LFE to front instead of sub.
Remote no is - WF36540
If someone has that I would need that may be for 15 mins or so (in case its in delhi).
Else I am ready to pay the transaction charges too, to get this done.
Please help.

Anybody using 577 or any model with zone B option here? How does zone A and B operates?
Can we mute zone A and only play zone B and vice versa? If zone A is living room and zone B is bedroom and speakers are connected to both zones.
I am thinking of RXV 577.

This is not from a user, but as per my reading and understanding.
I have been reading the user manual as I have ordered 477 and will be joining the Yamaha Club soon
It is a common user manual for 477 and 577. As per the manual ( pg69) ZoneA and ZoneB can be switched on/off independently. But the input source for ZoneA and ZoneB are same.

The dealer has also suggested 577 and told the back surrounds can be biamped to front speakers. Any idea will it improve front channel SQ siginificantly? Any 577 Owners using the biamp feature?

I have seen the below in user manual. It says in the trademarks dts-HD for rx-v477 and dts-HD Master Audio for rx-v577. What does this mean?
In 477 specs it clearly says dts-HD Master Audio is supported. Could some experts/owners clarify this please?

DTS-HD and DTS-HD MA both are supported even in my RX-V375 so it should be in RX-V477, 477 is one generation ahead and one step higher :)
As per Yamaha India DTS-HD MA is suported in RX-V477.

Thanks. Yes I have seen the specs in web and user manual.
I think the trademark has to do something with the logo in models?
Only 5** series and up may have DTS-hd ma logo printed on it even though functionally all support dts-hd ma.

Seems to be the case, Even my RX-V375 has only DTS-HD and Dolby Tru-HD printed however it decodes DTS-HD MA, displays the same in display. And interestingly I never noticed that only DTS-HD is printed :D

Hi All,

Planning to buy Yamaha HTR3067 for Rs. 25,000/- to pair it with Pioneer SP FS 52; Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 2.1.

Somewhere heard that HTR 3067 is equivalent to Rxv 377.

Your valuable suggestions in this regard is highly appreciated

I think you plan to use Pioneers as fronts and BAs as surround. What about Centre?

HTR 3067 is same as RX-V377. HTR 3067 is big-box retailer version where as RX-V377 is retail version.

The BA cubes have frequency response starting 150hz however with pioneers as front and center keep the LFE cut off frequency at between 80hz and 60hz since the 52fs has 40hz as lowest frequency and sp-c22 55hz. You might not miss the 80hz to 150hz in surrounds though the gap is wide. Especially when driven in 2.1 for music a cut off at 80hz - 60hz would be good.

Hi,

U mean to say if I use BA as surrounds, I might have chance of missing the range 80-150 hz

Yes, any frequencies which would be sent to surrounds would not be reproduced between 80 and 150. The 3067 has only one cut off frequency selection for all speakers, not for individual channels. And if you set cut off 150 then the awesome front and center channel would be underutilised. The subwoofer would have to do the extra duty of reproducing 80 to 150hz which can be easily taken up by fronts. One option is there to set the fronts as large in configuration but in that case the lowest freq for sp-fs52 is 40hz so it can't be called a truely large speaker.

Officially joining the Yamaha owner's club after becoming the proud owner of RX-V477 today.
Paired with Wharfedale Diamond 220 as of now.

Hi

Thanks a lot for the info.

I have posted the initial impression in this speaker thread.
http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/57710-wharfedale-diamond-220-yamaha-rx-v477-3.html

I would like to know the below settings are fine in rx-v477 ( Only fronts connected. )

1)Speakers:
Front : Large
Center,surrounds,Sub : None

Level Front L and R : 0.0db ( default )
( I see it can be adjusted from -10db to +10db. What is the safe value if I want to increase the front volume. Can I set it to say +2 or 3 db safely? )

It has set crossover as 100hz. Now no sub is connected. Should I change to the lowest value of 40Hz so that fronts will play all frequencies? Pls suggest.

2)HDMI Control, Standby pass through, ARC set to "ON". Checked and it is working.

3)In Pioneer BDP-160 ( Only changed the hdmi audio out. Hope this is fine )
HDMI Audio out - Bitstream.

4) Using "Straight" mode for blueray playback. But in the front panel display I see only HDMI1. How will I know it is decoding DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD. Will it display anything?

5) Music playback: I am using "Direct" mode. But today when I turn off TV I am not getting audio from Front speakers. When I turn it on again sound is coming from the front speakers. I would like to keep only Pioneer BDP and AVR ON and turn off TV while playing music. What setting is needed? Did I miss anything in the setup?

6) In Videocon D2H HD STB any option to output bitstream for 5.1? I could not find any setting in the D2H menu.

Please help to setup correctly.
Thanks a lot.
