Yamaha AVR owners thread

They are there in the 871 which I have. I think thats the base model from where this feature is added. I was looking at buying 671 but then got the 871 for only 5k extra and went for it.

Sorry about it. How do you find the performance of 871? Which speakers are you using now for the mains?

Sorry for butting my way in again here. I tried again few more times to get the harmony remote working with my avr (671). I tried to assign the up, right, left and right keys manually on the remote and that also did not work well. I am afraid either the remote has gone bad or the avr has some issues with the IR receiver (?). Its a matter of another one month before I get my remote and the ypao mic, hence I feel buying another remote seems extravagance :(

Can I borrow any one of yours remote (yamaha) for a day or half a day ? Or if anyone of you know how to work with this universal remote and can spare a little time helping me Can I come for help !! ? I know I sound desperate, sorry. Just wanted to play with my avr settings and I have not seen a single page of its settings yet, playing it blindly with few controls available on the device itself :(

I can understand how frustrating it can be, to use an AVR (with lot of functions) without remote. Only way is to borrow 671's remote from some one and teach your harmony.

Input assign is same as Input selection like AV1, AV2, AUX etc.? I have tried them. I am not sure auto detection of input is available. Will try it anyway. But it looks like I have to run component cable from AVR to TV in addition to HDMI as other friends here have pointed out.[/QUOTE]

Why would you want to do that? An extra cable will just cost you. Why not add DVDP directly to TV.

I have the Quad 11L2 for fronts and L2 centre with in wharedale in ceiling surrounds and SW150. Also there is a Wharfedale in-ceiling in the bathroom as zone 2. Its there in the 3rd line of my signature.

Now the sad part is that I have not yet yet set it up and am using the TV only. There is some small work to be done in the cabinet for wiring before I can install. Hopefully, Sunday I will start using the full system. As of now its just the STB & DVD directly with the TV.

Very much ok, but why not DVD to AVR to TV?
This way we do not miss out OSD of AVR, if we have to make adjustments, change surround modes etc..

Thanks Santy, for understanding!! The sad part is I dont know anyone personally in this forum, hence waiting for the angel to appear from the clouds !

Any one connected the pre-outs of yamaha with a power amp ? Post some details please.:)

I did that ,but to my old Onkyo.Well I need to turn volume upto -5(-20 to 15 with yamha amp),then I could get good sound from Onkyo.
Well I could only find the changed sound signature from Yamaha to Onkyo.
Need to check actual power amp.

Between the two I don't think you can really find some difference, see if you can try the same with a good power amp.

Have you configured the harmony remote using the logitech software?

Yes Baiju, I did try configure the remote using the logitec's application. It found rxv671 in their supported devices database alright, but somehow the arrow/navigation keys were not working for me to go to the speaker setup page. Infact very few keys were working on the remote, not that it is completely not working :( I was able to go to setup page, I was able to increase/decrease volume, I was able to toggle the sleep mode and a few like these. :(

When I tried to configure denon 1612 remote, I had the same problem - the up and down arrow keys won't work. In the logitech software, I selected the customize button option and configured the arrow keys correctly. check which buttons are mapped to the arrow keys in your case and customize the buttons. You don't need the original remote for this.

Thank you Baiju, I will give it yet another try. I will try with the virtual keys also which I have not tried before. Hopefully this time it should do some magic for me. Will let you know how it went. Thanks and good night.

Just wanted to update the forum of my little success in getting the remote working. A little while before, out of desperation, instead of selecting the correct model of avr, selected rx-v661 and updated the remote. To my surprise the navigation and select keys were working fine. I have now access to most of the settings :) At last I have enough inspiration to go through the manuals :).

I tried today. When extra bass is switched off, the sub is not used by avr in 2 ch stereo mode.

Very true, still there is something missing. If you switch centre, sub & surr off in speaker setting, stereo sounds best.Pls.try & confirm it.

Mav & later me joining the club.I will inform all that I have one doubt with Yamaha RX-V671 asian model. It is underpowered than US one.
I can say that because manual says that.I heard both & decided to go for old 667 which has still demand(like *63 series).

See the manual of RX-V671,it says US power consumption is 400w,asian 330w only, others 330w-

Where as RX-V667 consumes 400W in both models-

RX-V663 has more power than RX-V667-

Hi,
Saw your few months oldpost comparing input power .
Do you know if this will cause an issue in performance of the system or effect sound quality adversely?

Thanks
Gaurav

I have similar problem with logitech harmony 525 remote...
I am not able to go to setup menu through logitech remote..don't know....why?
However all other functions are normal and all keys are working..
On the other hand with logitech remote I am able to switch songs forward or backward in USB playback via AVR , which is not possible in my original remote..USB fast forward, backward, stop and play keys(function) are not working in yamaha remote..rest all keys are working fine..
can anyone explain why? Anyone else has these issues?
~Naimesh
P.S.-I am sure I have entered right model no of my AVR in logitech

Posting here since i expect most people here will havea good idea on the cost of Yamaha recievers.

I am getting the following price for the listed receivers in Bangalore. Wanted to know if this is a good price or over-priced ?

RX-571 = Rs30,500.
RX-671 = Rs39,500.

Thanks
Gaurav
