Yamaha AVR owners thread

Thanks dlkanth for looking at my post. I guess as per your advice the harmody remote that I have should be sufficient ? I had issues configuring it to use with my avr. Can you help me how can I get it working if you had previous experience using this type remotes ? I can only get a few keys working on it.

Thanks much for your time!

Regards,
Sabarish

Try configuring different keys for navigation and selection.

I have a Rs. 500 universal remote with which I have configured almost all necessary keys of 471. I guess it is very difficult to tweak all settings with controls on the panel. Regarding sound not coming from surrounds, are you sure your AVR is set to movie mode?

Has anybody tried component video. For the first time I was trying to connect my DVDp with the AVR through component along with coaxial for audio. But only the sound is heard there is no video (it shows Yamaha piano screensaver). Tried in both inputs AV1 and AV2. Carefully chose AV channel on remote, did not work. I simply removed the cables and connected to the TV it worked.

If you are using hdmi from avr to tv, then you won't get video from component or composite as yamaha 471 cannot upconvert. You need to connect component out of your AVR to TV.

I have connected a Sony DVDP through component and it works fine for me. I have a similar problem with my WDTV. I always have to switch on the receiver first or else I would see Yamaha screensaver instead of WDTV interface. Then I have to remove and connect the HDMI cable from WDTV to make it work.

EDIT: Oops, didn't notice that Santy has a 471.

That is strange. What's the meaning of having that many connections on the back panel if it cannot output them? Why we need up converting in first place, I just need DVD resolution on hdmi...!

Ok I am wondering why it doesn't work for me.. And I don't face your problem. Whether I switch on MP or avr first I do get proper video output.

Now my query-
How can we get stereo audio bypassed from DSP?
Well I tried staight, pure direct which should cut of SW,which doesnt happen in 667.
I turned off "Double Bass",yes now sub doesnt work, still SQ is not as good as when I select centre, surround & SW off manually in speaker setup.

In Onkyo, with direct ,it used to bypass all autometically.

Its just like a switch which 471 doent have. The DSP chip cannot route the video from component to HDMI.Thats what upconvertion is.Upscaling is making it to 1080p.

Oh.that's sad. Anyway its time to say good bye to the DVD player. As such I had put it on after 18 months to see some video songs on DVD. Now I sold the coaxial cable also. So next stop, a budget bdp...

I think it should work. I have tried with Denon 1912 which again did not had upscaling. Component connection from DVDP to Denon was dispalyed on LED via HDMI.

You said your tried Component with AV1 and AV2. These are Composites and not Component. Component are 3 RCA Cable only for Video. Composite is 3 RCA for 1 Video and 2 Audio.

Did you check Input Assign. It is better to put HDMI Out as Auto. So AVR detects the Input signal automatically and Assigns DVDP to HDMI.

 yaar this is downright basics... :D

Input assign is same as Input selection like AV1, AV2, AUX etc.? I have tried them. I am not sure auto detection of input is available. Will try it anyway. But it looks like I have to run component cable from AVR to TV in addition to HDMI as other friends here have pointed out.

Santy there is no need for confusion. Your AVR doesn't have HDMI upscaling or upconversion. So you can't use HDMI out for composite or component inputs. Same case with my denon 1612, but I don't use any analog inputs as I'm using only HDMI devices. Denon 1912 has upconversion feature.

Hi Baiju

I do not think 1912 has upconversion feature. This is the missing feature compared to the 1911. I think Denon is moving ahead where after a year or so their might not be any player without hdmi output which would require upconversion.

Thanks

1912 definitely has upconversion as there is no component out provided. The component connection has to be output through the HDMI port. Thus upconversion is there.

Denon 1912 has upconversion of analog signals to HDMI. What it lacks is upscaling to 1080p which the older 1911 has. Denon 1611 has upconversion which is removed in 1612.

They are there in the 871 which I have. I think thats the base model from where this feature is added. I was looking at buying 671 but then got the 871 for only 5k extra and went for it.

Only 667 has preout (for all channels). *71 series do not have. Not even 671.
