Dealers in used amps

Any reliable used amp/speaker dealer in Hyderabad to deal with ?.

EDIT:

Well looks like lot of people (and from lots of different locations) have brought from Ramesh.
Well, I too have brought some stuff from him and my experience with him has been always
good. Best part of it, it comes very well packaged and fast too. Highly recommend his
services.

Hi,

I can vouch for the services of our forum member "HiFiPal4All". He deals with good quality used amps and is very nice person to deal with.

I second that, I dealt with him couple of occasions and it was a pleasant experience.

I profoundly vouch for FM Mr J Ramesh Babu aka hifipal4all as well, having bought two amplifiers from him.

I really liked the way he asked me, "OK, now please tell me why you want to buy this/these amp(s). Sorry, but I am asking you so that you dont get disappointed later . . ."

PRICELESS, that forthright and gentlemanly approach.

Mr. Prakasham from Chennai - My experience is no other than those are with most of the members here. I was expediting a deal with him for Marantz PM7000. While talking with him over phone, he does not sound as a person with whom you will be comfortable doing some deals. He claims a lot and insists on giving you a lot of gear after taking some information from you. He gets old stuffs from Singapore and sell (fool) honest buyers here. His prices are non worthy. He will not pick your phone when you need him and will not update you correctly. Thankfully I decided NOT to buy from him.

Mr. Farhad (Yes thats the correct name) is from Byculla, Mumbai. I bought a Sansui AU D7 from him. I had a very good experience with him. Do not know about other people experiences.

His equipments are mostly in mint condition. When people see my Sansui AU D7, its does not look like a 30 yr old piece, and you all know how good Sansui sounds anyway. My amp is great. His price are not less, but as per the market I think. He knows quite a few things about Audio. It seems to me that he mostly gets his gears from Dubai & Middle east. He is very refined and comfortable while talking (At least with me). I had visited his place and the way he keeps his equipments, I have not seen any dealer (or any users also ) keeping the gears.

I am thinking to buy a JBL 3 way full real wood floor stander from him, which I have auditioned it and feels blown away. But I can not afford now. Its some 30+ thousands.

Thanks for your very detailed and acute observations, Vipul.

The consensus on this forum is definitely tilted against dealing with Mr. Prakasam.

You are the first member who has given feedback about Mr. Farhad and that too in a very positive manner. I'll certainly contact him again to see if he has anything suitable. He seems to deal mostly in vintage rather than modern equipment. I may be mistaken.

Do you know of any other sources of used equipment?

Regards.

Where are you located, Miro flex??

sir,
I feel the matter is simple. Quote your price and mention the condition.
In this day n age of google, a prospective buyer can get prices on the net.
And regards "gaging" what u can afford and not afford, this does not hold good. Today someone you feel who dosent have a dime in his pocket can shell out money on costly gear. this is my experience

Hi Suresh,

Your home truths seem be beyond the grasp of some individuals. They do not realize that with the spread of timely and detailed information on the net, the buyer is no longer so much in the seller's grasp. Yet some sellers will never learn. Or maybe they have been victims of too many time wasters or trawlers for information in the past.

Hi Trittya,

I am in Allahabad. I had a very enjoyable trip to Darjeeling in the early eighties, when working in Guwahati. I have not been able to make a second visit so far but would love too do so anytime. I hope we'll be able to meet each other soon.

Regards.

Thats great but do make it before mid-Nov as I am moving out to another place in Nov end. Why I asked you where you live is because its good to have a reliable mechanic handy, in case something goes wrong, usually only a total capacitor replacement, then they(vintage amps) work abs fine.

Hi Trittya,

I used to be a DIYer in my younger days. I have a friend in Allahabad who tinkers with used equipment and is slow but steady. He helped me with my Akai M8 reel to reel tape recorder and Philips HiQ receiver. Also in changing the belt in my Aiwa cassette deck.

Where are you off to then? Back to Delhi?

All the best.

Hi miroflex,

Glad to know that you are exploring all options. However, unless the used-equipment-dealer is well known and is recommended by a lot of members of the forum who have had direct interaction with the dealer, I would advise you not to consider this option.

...Look out for sales by audiophiles. Here also, in general one needs to be careful so that there is no bitter feeling later on...

...I know some people have got good deals this way from boom-a-rang in Bombay and Sridhar (ARN Systems) from Bangalore. I am sure there are other dealers who help out their existing customers this way and at the same time get in new customers. To me, this seems a fair procedure, and helps out all three parties.

Regards.

Asit,

Thank you very much for sounding a note of caution. I had drafted a detailed reply earlier but before it could get posted it was deleted due to failure of the UPS.

I do have a tendency to rush in without checking when reputed makes are under the hammer. Some check fortunately comes into play because of the geographical distance between me and the dealers. Otherwise I might have fallen victim to the blandishments of Mr. Prakasam. Fortunately I am getting sane and sensible advice from a number of members whose response has been most generous in terms of advice as well as details of equipment surplus to their requirements.

Could you or someone intimate contact details of Messrs. Boomarang and Mr. Sridhar of ARN Systems, Bangalore?

Warmest regards.

Yeah, I am going to Delhi for a few days now. Come November, I still dont know where I will be, but somewhere in North India, I guess.

I can direct you to a honest-to-goodness mechanic in Delhi for major needs of repair and/or replacement.

Warm Regards
