Dear Miroflex, The Quad 22l speakers require best amplifiers to sound good. Is there an option for you to come out of nad, Marantz and CA and explore something in Cyrus , Exposure, Creek etc.

Thanks for your views. I too am not enamoured of the present generation of NADs and Marantzes. CA are an unknown quantity as far as I am concerned, as are Arcams and Roksan Kandys. There seems to be a weight of prejudice against them in these columns and elsewhere. The options mentioned by you can be considered along with the more expensive American pre/power combos.

I'm back from the Northeast and find that long distance travel is too difficult to permit of frequent long distance trips for auditioning purposes. My train was only late by 24 hours. I was lucky. The next day's train was cancelled.

I've decided to stick to tried and tested brands, in my case Quad. I've placed ads for pre and power amps and speakers in the wanted section and have got some interesting responses. Let us hope it goes well.

It was an Engineering (read Civil Engineering) problem, not an Electrical Engineering one. A derailment had blocked both the up and the down lines and no alternative route was available to bypass the blocked section till it was cleared.

Any definitive opinion on Farhad? He does not seem very knowlegeable in his telephone conversations. His prices can also be exhorbitant. Rs. 65,000 non-negotiable for a Linn Basik with Akito arm and unknown cartridge.

The Pune Mumbai trip went off as planned. I had a very enjoyable Pune HFV meet, with three redoubtable Navi Mumbaikars joining in. Will post my impressions on the appropriate thread.

I was able to meet fellow member homiyar and listen to some of his gear. I also visited some non hifivision member audiophiles and listened to esoteric as well as mid range gear.

I was not able to go around Chor Bazar nor could I meet used audio dealer Farhad. He did not seem to have anything very interesting with him right now.

As it is we audiophiles are few in number and as music lovers we tend to be gentle in nature, so I'm glad you're educating others as it may safe them from getting their fingers burnt and give up this hobby.
