DENON Owners thread

What were the Denon's paired with ?

When you are spending close to a Lac rupees, then it should really should be a stand-out performance... I would suggest you to consider Denon X4000 over X2100 (or) X 3100...

Since it is an year old model, you should get a good discounted price....Alternatively you may consider the above said Onkyo models & Marantz SR 7008....

All the suggested models have Audyssey Multi EQ XT32 which is one of the best Digital room correction aval in the market....

The Denons were paired with Polks, same as mine. The newer Denon models are with Bluetooth as well as wifi, so that's an added benefit. The x3100w is priced at 110000 and the x4100w is priced at 150000.

The newer ones are with a little better video and audio processing technologies.

I've had lots of denons.
I may have had 3-4 3300's and atleast 2 3600's. These had the transistors put on the heat sink wihtout transfer paste or mica. They burn up and die. If yo ucatch them before the transistors are dead, you stand a good chance of saving it but putting in the transfoer compound and mica. I have 1 3300 and 1 3600 dead right now. No worries, I got em free. I hope to fix em sometime. Or atleast isolate the bad channel and have it work of the other channels.
I also had a dead 1912 that predates my adventures with the 3300/3600. In fact I got it as a warranty return resale, and I think it was barely a few months old. Sometime in 2012, or even 2011. Only worked on stereo. Sold it as is. Should have tried to fix it in hindsight.
Then I had a 2800 and a 5700. I just sold them last week. Very good, never had an issue, I didn't open either of them.
I have heard my friend rave about a 3808. So I recently picked up a scratched and dented 1910. It works, but not in full HDMI use yet, I am yet to get a HDMI TV, or the 50 ft long cable I need to run it. So far, it has a great tuner. That's about all I know.

I am hoping to get my hands on a 3808, 4808 or a 5808 if I can. LOL.
I also have a denon cassette deck that is my favorite. Nice 3 motor 3 head, some MR 2 or something. I have it in storage, I'll post about it later, very cool one.

Cool.
Srinath.

I finally bought the DENON AVR-X4100W, over an Onkyo as I never liked the bright sound from these receivers. The DENON is a powerhouse and future proof I guess, with so many options and connectivity.

Well a full featured review is due and will do in near future.

Off to setting up and enjoying my new receiver.

Hi friends, been using a denon 1713 from few months. Recently tried connecting my pc to theAVR and so far i am unsuccessful.
I am using an ATI HD7700 graphics card and usings it's hdmi out to avr in but getting no display and no sound. When i connect the pc directly to my tv then i do get display. Altough my blu ray player as well as the d2h hd setop box work flawlessly with the avr. I tried different hdmi cables as well as switching hdmi ports on the avr without success. Its driving me crazy. Can someone please explain and help.

Hi,

I was going through some threads in other AV forums and amazon.com reviews of Denon x1100w. Many users are complaining about unreliable bluetooth connectivity, front display problems within few weeks/months usage etc.
Like to hear the feedback and x1100w usage experience from the owners.

Dear Audioheads,

I am a newbie to the world of HT systems, so firstly my heartfelt thankfulness to the contributors of the forum for their stupendous discussions. After being a leech on the forums, I zeroed in on buying AVR Denon X1000, because of the following reasons:

1. More than enough power (50:50 Music and Movies) to last me for 5-7 yrs
2. Audyssey (which i feel will provide optimum output for newbies like me)
3. Networking options making it future-proof (relatively)

Sadly though, i called up ProFx Hyd and they informed me no way i can get X1000 now. Also they informed that Audyssey is a waste if your room is not acoustically engineered! Now is that true?

Any leads on whether where and how I can get the AVR in hyd (online options are fine too)? Also any tried and tested AVR/ speaker options considering my needs above with a budget ~30K for AVR and 20-25K for speakers? (room size 10*15 ft)

Update: I could find a dealer with stock of x1000 and he quotes 29.5K for the AVR. IS that a good deal you think folks?

Regarding speakers, I am thinking of starting up with a 2 or 2.1 system right now (budget = 50-55K including AVR :)) Any recommendations for bookshelf/ standing speakers for this AVR? :)

I have recently brought an X2100 from US to India - bought it from 220electronics.

Hi Comskian,

Even I am planning to carry an AVR from the US, but I have a couple doubts:

1. Did you need to use any special transformer for converting the voltage or a regular 220 to 110 stepdown transformer was good enough. Could it convert 60 hz to 50hz

2. Any issues with NTSC / PAL?

So fially what DID you purchase ?
I am also in the market for a new HT and have decided on the Denon 510bt but and deciding on the speakers . My budge is similar to yours. I recently auditioned for Polk, KEF, Jamo recently and found Polk to be the best among all.
What did You finally decide ?

Aside from DTS:X, the 7200 is also getting its HDMI board upgrades for free to HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 (several 7200 owners on other forums have already had the HDMI upgrade done).

Yeah read about it...for this the user needs to send the receiver to Factory/service center for upgrade right?..
How does HDCP 2.2 (there was a issue earlier saying that 4K content 60fps cannot be passed thro' it) protects the content..pls thro some light on it..

Right. Though if you are patient and can wait a few weeks before buying, they'll come with the new HDMI board installed.

Earlier versions of the High Definition Copy Protection allowed for 4K content at 24 and 30 fps. That seemed fine, since movies are shot at 24fps. However, with 3D content, you need 24 frames for each eye: 48fps total. The older version couldn't handle that. Hence the new version that can do 4K @ 60fps.

A few weeks ago, HDMI announced a new spec: HDMI 2.0a. The "a" version adds the ability to transmit HDR (high dynamic range video, like Dolby Vision). The updated Denon 7200 will have HDMI 2.0a.

Hi guys.

Great work for the Denon chatter...very informative...
Need your views on the Denon vs others. Im evaluating Denon X3100 (95k), Onkyo 828 (90-100K) and Marantz SR6009 (80k) for the PSB X2T FS speakers, without any power amp attached.

Here are a few considerations:

- Onkyo has a marginally muffled sound compared to Denon & the AccuEQ is not that great either. Read on issues with the HDMI boards soldering coming off due to heating for predecessor models. Yet, in terms of features (ATMOS & 135w/channel) & price on offer, Onkyo seems like a loaded option for the price.

- Marantz isnt known to be bright enough for movies though is a clear winner for music. SR 6009 is also high on features (wireless & otherwise). The upside with Marantz is the Audyssey XT, general overall reliability and will balance the sound of the PSBs. My 2 concerns - heard of issues where the unit would be "hanging" alot & that its 110 watt/channel. But "spirovious" mentions its worth the try.

- Denon AVr X3100 is fully loaded on features and is a good choice for movies & music alike. Considering its a slightly bass heavy AVR and that X2Ts have somewhat lacking bass (compared to Paradigm 11s), this may work out to be a better match. An Audyssey Gold advanced DSP & delhi based after sales service office is a big plus. Only concern - given the Marantz and Onkyo, this one is on the higher price (95k) bracket with lower output per channel 105 watts per channel. The Denon dealer says the 105 is "pure & raw output" unlike the others - whatever that means!!

Dropped the NAD option - low features & almost 1.25k

Any suggestions would be welcome on WHICH ONE IS SUITABLE - please consider the observations as well.

Big thanks to all

Sorry Prateek for the late reply - I am not a frequent visitor to forums and had been lately busy with a car purchase. I guess it is a bit late to reply, but anyway -
1. I bought the AVR from 220electronics who sells equipment designed for 230 V power supply, and it works without any transformer or additional convertors.
2. I did not really understand this but did not face any issue, it works properly with my TV out of the box.
